The point is open up your eyes. Pennington was garbage then he is garbage now. See the truth and not what you want to see because your a fan. The Coles saga will play out with Chad's. Watch and see. His time is almost at an end with the team as well. Please note that I like Coles and I think he has been held back with Chad at the helm but his time is almost up. What would your future plans for Coles be if you were the coaching staff?
Yes, Pennington always has been garbage Id keep Coles on the team until he starts to decline, I dont see any reason to drop him from the team when clearly he produces numbers that warrant him as a good receiver, and the complement to Cotchery. Is there any other reason why he shouldnt be on this team, Mr. Right?
What's with the Pennington is garbage crap? The guy has had two shoulder surgeries both while playing for the Jets. His arm is shot but the guy is not garbage. From all indications he is a very smart, hard working family man who is extremely well liked by the players and the coaching staff. Just because he can't throw very well anymore is no reason to call him garbage. There's a difference in having an opinion of the play on the field and devaluing a good person to try and strengthen your argument. I have been a big critic of Pennington?s play on the field, I?m not happy the coach isn?t starting Clemens but as long as Chad is playing for the Jets I?m going to root for him and hope he plays great and if he ever wears another uniform, I wish him well against every other team.
What is with people starting to bring up Coles age? Has he shown any signs of slowing down or breaking down? Don't get me wrong, the high balls and jump passes will eventually take its toll on him. However, his game is not built around speed, he is a smart player and excellent route runner. If he had a QB that could deliver the ball in stride and mentally he could it, he could be like Harrison and avoid unnecessary hits by going down instead of fighting for the extra yard and / or step out of bounds instead of taking the punishment for an additional yard (except when it was necessary.)
This really has nothing to do with how hard he works to get better, or how great of a family man he is. I'm sure he's a great guy. But unfortunately, this is the NFL which means Not For Long. If you were to look at how he has played this year, your not going to tell me he's played like garbage? It has nothing to do with him as a person, but he is playing like garbage.
Played like garbage is different than Pennington is garbage and was garbage. It just is so harsh sounding, it jumps out when I read it.
nothing will change until changes are made to the o-line and d-line. that's where the jets are hurting the most.
Pennington never was garbage, nor did he play like garbage in the last 5 years with the Jets. This year he is playing like garbage, but thats it. The man is broken down and finally his arm cant withstand the exertion he is putting on it. None of this he is garbage crap.
But your whole point is Chad getting bench is going to spark this in Coles....... how can you argue that when as you posted he has already left Chad once before???? Doesn't make sense. Like looking to replace 29 year old receivers still playing at the top of the league.
Why are you speechless. We will see how Coles responds when he is not the go to guy on 75% of the passing plays next year because Clemens can spead the field and hit all the receivers on all routes. We will see how he responds to 2 a days after a 6-10 season next summer. Quote me on it. Coles rides with Chad!
You and no one else has any freaking idea what Clemens can do, everything you said is wishful thinking. So now you added Coles to the shit list, who's next?
Coles is not on the s**t list. I wish everyone played their position like Coles does. He has heart and comes to play every week. With that said he is getting up there in age and when his best friend Chad goes and he has to come back after a 6-10 season next training camp don't be surprised if he starts to complain.
What is so hard to understand that the Jets should start planning for life after Coles? This same kind of thinking is why we did not have a replacement for Curtis Martin when it was his time to hang up his cleets. Why must we ride every decent Jet player we get until the end. Look at what the Pats do? They let players go when they can get value for them and replace them with Cheaper younger options. Coles is great now but he will decline any year now and as bad as this team it is does not make sense not to get value for him now. Unless you think he will be a star in 2009-2010 when the team is rebuilt.
Barring injury WR generally can play quite a while in this league. You act like Coles is a step away from applying for social security. Tomorrow you will be exclaiming he's garbage. The truth is that he will likely continue to play here through 2009-2010. If his play declines then so will his place in the depth chart. And so will his salary. Like every other player he'll have an opportunity to weigh out playing for us cheaper or testing the market. Look at Troy Brown for the Patriots.
I will never ever say Coles is Garbage! Just because I dislike Chad as a player only do you automatically assume I think the same about all the other Jet Players? Troy Brown is veteran presence and nothing more with the Pats. As evidenced by them signing Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth and Kelly Washington in the off season. Coles does have One or two more good years left but with that said there should be someone ready to step in when he is done. Do you think if Chad is gone the complaining he did the last two Training camps about 2 a days will get any better? When Clemens takes over all the possible malcontents have to be weeded out of that locker room. I love coles as a player but this has to be though about.
Coles when only leave this team if: A) his contract is up B) he has a spectacular year and wants a payraise, thus resulting in holdout and then a trade C) he retires, due to decline in talent He has already proved that he is a business man first...getting the ball has never been a problem for him so he wont leave this team because he thinks he can get more touches elsewhere... As for the Jets moving forward without him...its mindless to think that they will move him to make room for some untapped talent...when that receiver emerges and takes Coles spot, you may see him move, otherwise hes keeping his #87 Green Jersey on...sorry to disappoint
What would give you the idea that I would be disappointed to see him stay? Just because I said that life after Coles should be thought about?
Of course it should be thought about, when he has 2 years remaining on his contract so we can provide ample time to draft and breed his replacement... im not sure where his contract is at now, but I would wait another few years before thinking about Coles leaving this team.
