http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...YF?slug=ap-superbowl-london&prov=ap&type=lgns NFL commissioner says Super Bowl may someday be held in London By CHRIS KAHN, Associated Press Writer October 15, 2007 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- A future Super Bowl champion may someday be crowned overseas in a game witnessed predominantly by a foreign audience, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. "There's a great deal of interest in holding a Super Bowl in London," Goodell told reporters Monday. "So we'll be looking at that." The commissioner said London's new Wembley Stadium would make a great candidate for pro football's biggest matchup, given the enthusiasm overseas for the game. The NFL has been expanding its overseas presence for years by televising games around the world. It's held preseason games in numerous countries in Europe, Asia, Mexico and Canada, and in 2005, the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers played the first regular-season match outside the United States.
What's the difference? The Super Bowl is already about 5% football and 95% bullshit. I hardly think that moving it to England instead of some sunny Florida or California city is going to make a difference.
How about time logistics? If the SB normally kicks off at 6 PM EST, that would mean a 11 PM start in the UK
No way....this is the dumbest shit. They are already playing a regular season game in London....which is also dumb too me.
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some hooligans kick the shit out of some rich bandwagon Patriots fans.
Who cares, do you go to the game? There are no fans at the game anyway it's nothing but suits and family members so I could care less where the game is played.
Culture Club and Fine Young Cannibals at halftime making comeback attempts instead of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
I see no problem with this. The Super Bowl is a corporate event now, anyway. And if the Jets ever make it, I will have no problem doing whatever it takes to get to London or Peru or Easter Island or wherever it is held in 2050.
If the Jets made it, I would go...If it took selling stock or refinancing my house, I would be there.
That is my issue with this idea. I can't see starting such a long game (what with all the commercials and extra long halftime) around 9 or 10 pm local time. A Super Bowl in London would have to start at 1 or 2 or 3 in the afternoon New York time. Whatever network is telecasting the game that year is going to hate it. The networks want to be able to air one of their key programs immediately after the post-game show. Otherwise, I'm with you folks- no problem with the game overseas. Alas, I just don't see how it could happen due to the time difference.
The Giants-Fins games sold 95,000 tickets, imagine how many tickets they'll be able to sell for this one. And like someone else said, MONEY.
What difference does it make – based on what I’ve seen in recent years – the Jets will never – EVER play in a superbowl again so they can play it on the phucking moon for all I care. 1969…still the only year that counts.
So if the fins go, will you fly to London? And how pissed would the UK be if the UEFA cup was held in LA?
With todays prices, the average fan can't afford a ticket to the SuperBowl and most of the tickets are bought by big corporations.
