In NY they go hand in hand. I do think there are other legends that did not play in NY. Obviously people like Ted Williams are and he never won anything.
Maybe I'm just not understanding your point. If you're saying that it's much harder to become "legendary" in NY without winning a title, then I'd probably be apt to agree with you. However, if you're saying that playing in NY is a surefire, or the best way, to become a legend, then I'd have to disagree. Obviously, if you're a great player, and you win a title in NY, you're going to achieve legendary status, as a byproduct of being on a such a large stage. ARod's a different animal altogether though. Had he never come to NY, or even if he decides to opt out and go elsewhere, even a small market team, as long as he doesn't suddenly degrade in performance to such a degree that he's only hitting 10 HRs a year, he's a legend, and a surefire first ballot entry into Cooperstown. He could retire tomorrow, and he'd still be a legend, and probably still a first-ballot Hall inductee.
Decision finalized that Chamberlain will definitely start next year no matter what. He, Hughes and Wang are the only definite starters on the roster. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTcyMDcxMDcmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
That's good news:up: Had to take a break from this forum for a couple of days but here are my thoughts on what I think we should do (ranked in importantce) 1a/1b. Resign Mo and Posada 2. Keep Torre. 3. Resign ARod (this would be nice but I think there is still at least a small shot he will go somewhere else) 4. Resign bench players such as Molina or sign other new players to fill out the team. 5. Pick up some better relievers Also, Abreu coming back would be a good decision, but in my opinion it is not necessary to this team's success Go Yanks!
It says he will start spring training as a starter....it doesnt exactly say he will start no matter what....although Im sure he will be a starter...as far as Rivera saying torre has a lot to do with whether or not he'll be back..shove it up your ass Mariano
Surprisingly yes:lol: Although I don't expect all 5 things to happen, that is the order of importance to me (ie if someone said only one of those 5 things could happen I would choose resigning Mo and Jorge)
What I'm saying is if you play in NY and win a title you have a much better chance of becoming a legend then if you play anywhere else and win a title. By NY, of course I mean the Yankees. I agree about Arod, he falls into the Ted Williams category. Nowwhere but NY will it be played up to a bigger degree though. People may like to dismiss monument park but there is never a Yankee game played anywhere in the country where it isn't shown at least once.
I agree on all points more or less. Absolutely need to resign Molina. He did a better job then I think anybody imagined. Abreu I think is important because we don't really have anybody else to play right field. I doubt Duncan is a serious option and of course the BP is a priority even if Rivera stays. With Chamberlain a starter we have really nothing for the 6th inning forward except maybe Vizcaino.
I said twice that Williams was. Yaz too probably and of course Cy Young if you want to talk just about Red Sox. Cobb is but everybody hates him so I didn't bring him up. So is Rose for that matter but they hate him too. The point is where it is given the biggest build up and notoriety. BTW, I read today that even Torre wants to stick around long enough to get his own monument too. So it's not just Arod. These people all think about it.
If you are not a Yankee "groupie", that is kinda scary. How many World Series hopefuls go into a season with two rookies, and a third Wang, that most "objective" observers of baseball consider a 2 or 3 starter, at the top of the rotation?
Let's say Pettitte comes back I really wouldn't mind this rotation at all 1. Andy 2. Wang 3. Hughes 4. Joba 5. Kennedy
gotta remember inning caps. Joba probably won't be able to go over 140 innings or so. Kennedy will be able to get up around 200, just short Phil, 180 or so?
We should get the Torre decision today. If we don't I would assume they have made him an offer and he is mulling it over. Here's some interesting speculation at the bottom of this article. Talking about the possibility that Jeter could be moved to third or first this winter. http://www.courant.com/sports/baseball/hc-yankees1015.artoct16,0,4536042.story
