Well we've won 6 division titles and 2 AL pennants which is 5 more div titles than the Mets and 2 more league pennants. Any more questions?
That might be exceptable if you have a payroll under 100 million but with the All Stars the Yankees have in their lineup that absolutely can't make you happy. Especially when you watch the Sox win their 2nd WS in 4 years. Yeah it's nice that you have all those things but the bottom line in WS and in the 21st century the Yankees have as many as the Mets. I know there are Yankee fans that hate the fact that they are an embarrasment but you just like you did with Herm are ok with mediocrity. When you have the payroll that the Yankees have and the owner they hae anything less than a World Series is unexceptable. You seem to be ok with the fact that the Yankees haven't won in 7 years.
I'm not ok w/ no WS title in 7 years but it's alot easier to accept knowing what we did the previous 5 years. You seem to be ok w/ the Mets having the largest NL payroll the last 5 years w/ 1 postseason and ZERO league pennants to show for it. We've been "bad" but we've never missed the postseason and again it's alot easier to take when 4 Championships are in the not so distant past.
I think we may be in agreement that the Mets are a disgrace, I'm not ok with it but as a realistic met fan I need to know that we'll never be the Yankees and we'll never have the fanbase nor the noteriety of the Yankees. It pisses me off that the Mets can't win but they've tried to hard to be the Yankees by signing aging vets to huge contracts ie; Pedro, Glavine, Alou, LoDuca, Franco, Valentin and Green (aquired in trade) intsead of developing talent. I've said for years that what made the Yankees special and and I'll stick to saying they had a magical run was taht they on with homegrown talent; Jeter, Mo, Posada, but it's when they attempted to overpay for guys that they began to decline. Maybe you'll agree maybe not but I'm sure you'd rather see guys like Leyritz, Brosius, O'Neil, Wettland and Soho on the roster rather than Matsui, Damon, Giambalco , Pavano and Wright.
I 100% agree w/ the bolded statment and your last paragraph and you can include ARod. He wasn't as brutal as usual in october but it's still a bad job w/ only 1 RBI. We used to have a much worse O #s wise but a bunch of guys who knew their roles and weren't scared under the bright lights of october but in recent yars we've had better #s O's but guys who can't perform in october. Cashman has done a great job getting younger and better on the mound, he needs to make us younger and better w/ position players w/ the occasional mid-upper echelon FA.
With that,i could not agree more. And to tell you the truth it has taken 6 or 7 years for me to realize that. With the younger guys coming up now,i am really hoping that the organization is realizing this too. I also hope that we do not trade for someone like Santana. Keep Melk, cano,Wang. We got hughes,Joba,Duncan etc. We need to build on that and remeber what got us 96-00. Yeah, the Yankees have been "successful" in the last 7 years, but for the last 3 the lack of post season desire from the aging washups has shown its colors.
You guys have the potential to be very good very quickly again and to be honest if I was a Yankee fan I'd let guys like Mo and Mussina walk. If Arod walks that obviously changes things but I would not bet against him coming back although I think he goes to Anaheim.
gyc, the beautiful 2004 ALCS. Yankees up 3-0, they lose 4 straight to the rival boston red sox, greatest collapse in postseason history. :breakdance:
Just wanted to do some housekeeping before we continue this thread: [OPENS MLB RECORD BOOK] New York Yankees: World Series titles - 2000*, 1999*, 1998* and 1996* AL Pennants - 2003*, 2001*, 2000*, 1999*, 1998*, 1996* East Division titles -2006*, 2005*, 2004*, 2003*, 2002*, 2001*, 2000*, 1999*, 1998*, 1996* Wild card berths -2007*, 1997*, 1995* [CLOSES MLB RECORD BOOK] Ok, that looks much better.
Sorry, your right, there are absolutely no current or former Yankees involved in this whole steriod mess... [OPENS MITCHELL REPORT] Jason Giambi Page 131 Gary Sheffield Page 135 Rondell White Page 165 Roger Clemens Page 166 Andy Pettitte Page 175 Chuck Knoblauch Page 175 Jason Grimsley Page 177, 249 David Justice Page 181 Denny Neagle Page 187 Mike Stanton Page 205 Jose Canseco Page 246 [CLOSES MITCHELL REPORT]
You guys are such jealous whiners, EVERY team had players who used steroidsand every team STILL has steroid users. that report was nonsense but it will fuel the fire for the bitter met fans whose team has sucked for the better part of 20 years.
When you are done defending the Yankees, let me know and I will forward you some links to Patriot fan sites so you can start defending Belichicken.
your buddy HackettStillSux continues to bump a certain other thread, even after his team's WS wins were deemed tainted.
