Blind love is a dangerous thing. Pennington over the past few seasons has done just enough, shown a few good games or drives within a bad game, to remain intact as the starter. This unfortunately has masked the Jets leadership into believing we can win a championship with Chad at the helm. I'm sorry, that's not gonna happen. I believe another crappy week will go a lot further toward finally convincing them of that, that's all. Don't give me this (you should always root for your team no matter what crap). How many times has history proved that something bad turns out to be a blessing in disguise for the long run?
They are only scoring 15 ppg, but are 5th in the league in rushing with 4.8 ypc and Culter has 4 TDs and 6 INTs. Why aren't they scoring? They are averaging 4.2 ppg less than our offense, but they have a great running game. Who's fault is it? The Broncos were 7-3 last year before Shanahan made the move to replace Plummer and he made it public an then let Plummer play as a lame duck in KC and they did not improve when Cutler came, they got worse. Simply put, you guys can quit bringing up Denver as how to make the transition at QB.
Denver was a different situation anyway. Jake Plummer could still play QB in the NFL at the time they made the switch. Chad can't at the moment.
Of course, most of us know that replacing Chad doesn't automatically fix everything. Still, it's the hope that just this one thing might be the solitary thing that turns it around that keeps us going back to this idea. I think Mangini eluded to something the other day in his press conference, when he said (basically, because I'm paraphrasing), that everyone owns this record, not just the players or one player, but even the coaches. This could have been a slight, off-handed remark concerning Schottenheimer's playcalling and Don Sutton's calls as well, IMO. In other words, he basically said, they're all at fault, himself included. After the Giants game, Thomas Jones left the locker room so fast (before the reporters to get to him), you'd have thought his house was on fire, for example. He knew he couldn't contain himself if he'd been asked, "How come you got so few carries?" Schottenheimer basically abandoned the run way too quickly and left Chad's dink and dunk as the only weapon. A guy like Thomas needs 20-25 carries per game. But there are so many other problems, Thomas' lack of production is probably the least of it. Replacing Chad is a romantic idea whose time has probably come, sadly, but I highly doubt that even this is the answer, fellas, so don't look for Clemens to be the silver bullet. That's all I'm saying, but I hope I'm wrong.
You still want your future QB win the job and not your current to lose the job because of poor play. If the CS hasn't made the change, they do not think Clemens is an upgrade over Chad at this point. I would like to see Chad turn this around, Clemens keep progressing and win the job instead of hoping Chad falls on his face along with the team and hand Clemens the job.
I've tried making that point many times. You are preaching to deaf ears. (And if he's not an upgrade, what kind of trouble is this franchise in anyway?)
Keep in mind, that in the NFL once you make a decision to change QBs there is no going back. Period. Unless of course there is an injury.
I'm still amazed its come down to this. I didn't think CP should have started last week. Now we have to hope for another miserable loss so dipshit makes the switch? Here's the problem though. I'm not convinced he will make the switch to KC even after another miserable loss.
I'm not either and that's the worry everybody here should be having. Why not? What is wrong with Clemens that he can't start now? Great QBs don't sit on the bench for 3 years and don't forget last year he was demoted from 2nd to 3rd string in the middle of the season. Is he dumb? Is he lazy?
I can not root against the Jets. However being a realist, I can not possibly see Chad turn this around against the Eagles for several reasons: 1.) The Eagles have 2 weeks to prepare for the Jets. 2.) With Chad the offense is severely limited. 8-9 in the box all day and the same shit we saw against Buffalo and the Giants will happen again. 3.) Chads arm is getting weaker by the week. He can no longer throw down field and makes #2 happen. It is a shame but he is done. I think Mangini is just letting this play out because replacing a starting QB that happens to be Captain, as voted on by the players, is not an easy thing to do. If not done properly it can do more harm than good, even if the position is upgraded. He can not afford to lose the team and submarining Chad prematurely can do that. Clearly as constituted this team is not a playoff/SB caliber team. So I am cool with letting this play out another week or two. Clemens will be the starter this year it is just a matter of time.
KC isn't getting in because football coaches, as a group and with few exeptions, are ultra conservative. In one quarter KC showed terrific flashes againts a very tough defense. Is he ready? He is certainly ready to get playing time this year so that next year he will be really ready to lead. Is he ready to take us to the SB this year? Of course not - no one up to and including Superman is. Chad is dead end, KC is the future. Can we please move on?
Head Coach is the lonliest job in the NFL because somethimes you've got to be a real prick. This is gonna be one of those times. So, welcome to the NFL, Eric. Oh, how he must wish Chad Pennington was some kind of misfit, or a disciplinary problem, or someone who pisses off most of the locker room, some kind of quarterback version of TO at his worst in Philadelphia. But he's not... he's the furthest thing from that, which makes this one hell of a difficult situation for Mangini. Oh, how easy it would be to shitcan him if he were a wiseguy or outwardly critical of teammates and/or coaches. Whenever a situation like this arises, I often wonder what Bill Parcells would do. Whatever any of us think about the guy, the one thing I think Parcells always does is look himself in the mirror and ask himself, "What's the best thing for the team and it's chances of success?" This might turn out to be one of the most difficult calls Mangini will ever have to make.
He deserves to be treated with class, but he is not a great QB. I would put O'Brien's 3 best years against Chad's and Kenny O wins hands down and believe me I do not consider him a great Jet QB. Chad could have been a great QB, now forget it. Bench him, thank him and trade him in the off season.
If I remember right, he stuck with Bledsoe quite awhile last year and Bledsoe had not history with the fans or Cowboys. It is not as simple as some think.
Oh I'll be rooting for a Jets win #1. However, if Chad had a bad game and we won, it'd be optimal. We need Clemens to play.
very convient that they are sucking right now to prove your point. Where not talking about Jay Cutler; we are talking about Kellen Laser ball Clemens. The kid is ready I tell ya!
Brett Favre was traded from Atlanta to Green Bay after one season on their bench because Jerry Glanville thought he was a strong-armed lazy waste-case. Coaches can be extraordinarily wrong about a player and do very stupid things at times.
