After five games, I am not ready to throw in the towel on my Jets. Our defense sucks. That is true. However, our defense tends to start out slow anyway and pick up later, and this defense - although it looks small compared to other teams - is not much different than last year's D. Chad is breaking down. That is true. He's throwing the ball right at the defenders, practically begging them to pick his passes off. But in the past, he has shined and has brought our team to semi-goodness. Now, I would like to see Clemens play instead, but obviously our stubborn coach isn't doing that. But Chad has won before, and he can win now. It is possible. Thomas Jones has not gotten many good runs. That's an understatement. But if our D starts picking it up and keeping the points down, Jones will get more carries and will get his due hundred+ yard games. Our pass rush is the worst. Can it get better? Who knows, but frankly anything is better than it is right now. This IMO is our biggest Achilles heel. Bryan Thomas is no Abe, and Ellis, who should be picking up Abe's missing slack, seems to be past his prime. The other guys are playing out of position. That's purely Mangini's fault. The coaching of the team has sucked this year. Mangini, who prides himself on team preparation, has turned out the worst prepared team in the NFL. We saw that starting in pre-season. But I do remember seeing Curtis Martin say that, last season, was the best coached football team he had ever been around. C-Mart doesn't talk that much. When he does, I listen and respect his words of wisdom. And anyway, I believe in Mangini and his pedigree, and I am happy he is with the Jets, no matter what the outcome this season. Our receivers are great, our special teams could be great, our offensive line could be coached much better, and our secondary is playing as good as they could without a decent pass rush. And we have no major injuries except for Justin Miller, who paved the way for Leon to take his place. Bottom line: If the coaches get a handle on this situation - which they could - and the players make less mistakes -which given last year's mistake-free season seems like a real possibility - we could be back to winning. We have three crappy teams to play against, and if we can possibly win all three games, and our D starts getting its ass in gear, then we'll be back. It's a lot of ifs, but I believe in Mangini and the Jets. If the Yankees could come back from 14 1/2 back to make the playoffs, we can beat three crappy teams and get over this hell-filled hump. The season is not over!
Yikes...you are delusional. Teams we still have to play: Patriots in NE Cowboys in Dallas Bills in NJ (Hey they beat us once and nearly beat the boys) Bengals in Cincy Redskins in NJ Titans in Tennessee Steelers in NJ That's just a short list of teams I know we will lose to. I am not usually one to throw in the towel on the Jets, but this season...similar to the 2005 season...we are in complete shambles.
No, It's not. Look @ how bad the other teams are. Unfortunately, We are 2nd from last which means we suck too. I hope this thread gets Bumped in 9 weeks during our WildCard push just to show where we were.
Knowing the Jets it would be some useless, unneeded waste of a pick. Never would it be a skill player. Then we can all hear..well, we are only in our third year of rebuilding..it takes time...
The Jets would have to play really well to beat the Pats, Cowboys, Titans and Steelers. 8 & 8 would be a terrific season at this point, 4 to 7 wins is much more likely.
I would say the only chance the Jets have of pulling a miracle 10-6 or 9-7 season out of their pockets is if they bench Chad immediately and let Clemens starts playing. And that's only if Clemens is as good as advertised (being a Jets fan I doubt it, but no need to pass judgement before he has a chance to prove anything).
I live in FL, and in the today's sports paper, the main article is a picture of Mangini looking puzzled. He is still supporting Chad and says there issues with both sides. Nothing will ever change with this team. It's amazing, years ago all I wanted is the Jets to be competitive and we are now back to the Joe Walton years.
I’m glad someone started a thread like this. Its is VERY possible to make our way back into it. Starting as of right now the Jets need to win. Philly has holes all over it as far as I can see but Donavan is a much better Quarter back then Chad so let’s see who makes more plays. In terms of passing Iv relaxed now so I can Positively say that Chad throwing 30- 40 times a game is way too much , looking back over on tight games that we have won it seems Chad is throwing more like 20-22 times a game . All we need is a win to get these guys’s a little confidence. If we loose again this week I truly think it doesn’t matter who's the Quarter back, we will not win many more games this year!
Do you have anything positive to say about anything? This is your opportunity. Please speak now and show us that you are capable of contributing something that isn't a complete downer.
Sure, when I see something positive to say. I see nothing positive with the direction this team is taking. If you do, tell me what it is.
Are you watching this misbegotten waste of a season? It's not skill position players we are missing, except at QB and that only because the coach is kicking like a mule about making a needed change. The Jets pressing needs at this point are: NT, ROLB, LG, RG, RT, RDE and RILB. There are more areas that could use a boost but it's those non-skill positions that are killing us.
Pats will be tough. Every other game we have a legitimate shot. Dallas, Tennessee and Pittsburgh all have overrated QBs who struggle to win a game on their own. We can beat any of them. Whether we will is another question.
Every one of those teams are better than us on both sides of the ball and their QB's forgetting how they are rated are far better than Pennington and a completely unkown Clemens at this point.
