No need to rehash what everyone has been saying for and against chad, but I will say ive been fully in support of him since day 1. He's one of my 3 favorite jets of all time (alongside rob Moore, curtis martin) so i hate to agree with the popular opinion...but yes...he's as good as done in nyc. While he holds value, we should trade him this week before the dealine for o-line or d-line help. If hes as good as done, lets get something for him and give him an oppotunity to play/start this year...im sure the bears, dolphins (as blasphemous as the thought is..), or his old boy herm in KC would be interested. Then its officially Clemens team and we can "ride or die" with him (nice one leinert). Maybe even sign a vet to make sure we have emergency help. I know it would never happen but it would be nice just to cut ties, say goodbye, get some good value in return and move on. The jets relationship with chad right now is like when youre still with a girl that you know you don't want to be with, but youre just waiting and waiting for the right moment to break up...missing out on good things while procrastinating. And youre not even having sex anymore...just going through the motions hahaha..thats the jets and chad. Just break up already!
Huh Name the last starting QB to be traded mid season? Hell, you'd be hard pressed to even find one player traded during the NFL season - it just does not happen. Get used to how you're feeling today - b/c you are going to fell that way all year. Don't worry though, by Thanksgiving you'll be rooting for the high draft pick.
The transition at this point has been botched. Not beyond repair but it's no longer a simple process of replacing an aging veteran with the QB of the future. I'm thinking that this was pure inexperience on Mangini's part. He did not understand that Clemens deserved a full shot in training camp and so he was not open to the obvious victory that Clemens achieved in the competition there, even against 2nd stringers. Then he didn't understand that the injury to Chad was a golden opportunity to rectify that basic error on his part. He got to see Clemens in the 4th quarter against Baltimore but the first 3 quarters haunted his decision-making process: was this really the guy he was going to hitch his fortunes to? Now several weeks later he's in an absolute mess. Chad is not right, whether due to the high ankle sprain or the inevitable erosion of his already weak arm to aging and injuries. Clemens didn't grab the job on his first drive and keep it and Justin McCareins sabotaged his very strong attempts to make amends at the end when it counted. Now if the Jets trade Pennington it will be with sharply reduced value, a consequence of his poor decision making the last couple of weeks, and Mangini will be laying his job firmly on the line with his endorsement of the move. Only a young and inexperienced coach would have lead himself and the Jets into the cul de sac that we find ourselves now.
On a team that is struggling offensively the QB is always the problem. The Jets have scored 17, 31, 14 and 10 points on offense in the 4 games Chad has started this season. That's two games where the offense gave them no chance, one tossup and one win. Looking anywhere but Chad as the primary problem at this point is just looking through a set of nonsensical blinders.
I guess this whole discussion is more about offensive philosophy. Obviously, Chad is an intelligent, accurate passer who lacks MOBILITY. Clements has a stronger arm, lacks the decision-making skills (only his 2nd year) but moves better in the pocket. I feel that the overall TEAM play is more of an issue here than the QB play. We must play better defense and protect EITHER QB better than we have so far. I just believe that Chad gives us (with his abilities) a better chance to win NOW.
Let's look at this realistically. We Trade Penny then Clemens gets plastered because of our Swiss-made O-line. Who takes over? EXACTLY...In the NFL you need quality Backups so whoever thinks we should trade Penny is either a hater or not really thinking of the consequences
I think thats even debatable at this point. The past two weeks he's made some horrible mistakes that really hurt the team, and, in the eyes if some, cost the Jets the game. They not only killed important drives, but they looked bad too....really really bad.
OK ...Agree to disagree.....cool bro.......... Whichever way it goes, we've GOTTA improve our lines. Either thru the Draft, FA...whatever
