Mangini has to make the hardest decision any HC must make. Chad Pennington is the heart and soul of the team....but he is now losing games for them. Up until the last two weeks, you could offset the "KC is the future" argument with "Chad gives us the best chance to win". This is no longer the case....and it is painfully obvious to anyone watching. Chad Pennington can no longer consistently win in the NFL. He is a backup QB, at best (that is very painful for me to type).

KC was a high round draft pick by the current regime and he was drafted by the team for a reason. This season is, for all practical purposes, over (let's be real....this team is not going on a run). It is time to get Clemens valuable playing time so at the beginning of next season (when we have had a chance to retool the O-Line and Defense) he will be ready to lead this team.

Right now there is nothing to be excited about. At this point, I'd take watching a young QB learn, even if it means losing 10 games or more (we're on our way there now anyway).

Is it an easy decision? Hell no. However, hard decisions are why EM is getting paid. If he benches Chad, then just maybe he's got the stones to be an NFL Head Coach. If he sticks with the security blanket of Chad, then he is a guy who was bright, but too young to step up to the responsibility of an NFL HC. I don't think his job is in jeopardy, but what he does this week will foreshadow what he can expect from him from here on out.

Show us what you are made of Eric....make the right move.

If Mangina makes the switch, I'd be surprised. I think he's too conservative to switch without having no other choice.

I don't see him making the change. I hope to hell I'm wrong too...

I have to agree I don't think Mangini will make the change. He is very stubborn and still believes Chad is his starting QB

This season is putting Eric Mangini's job in jeopardy. If the Jets collapse from here on he will be fired at the end of the year. Bill Cowher is out there and will command a huge contract. The rumor mill has him going to the Giants if Coughlin does not go deep into the playoffs, however the Jets have the same address...

I can't believe alot of people here are calling for Mangini's head already. Our expectations were just way too high coming into this year...

Is it just me or has Mangini lost his swagger. What happened to playing the guys who perform? What happened to the guy who had some guts and would go for it on 4th and 1 when the situation clearly calls for it? What happened to the guy that was ready to cut Chad loose a little over a year ago? Has Chad got him under his spell.

There was a stat put up on the screen today that when the RB for the Jets lines up 8 yard behind the line its a run 96% of the time!!! Mangini is supposed to be so thorough yet he missed that? I know if the announcers know that so do the opposing defenses. How about mixing it up a little. That is something last years Mangini would never had let happen.

Is Herman Edwards back coaching the Jets in a Mangini suit? I don't know about all of you but I want last years Mangini back. Last years Mangini would have Clemens running the offense, he would have people on defense who want to tackle, he would use his gameplan and hard work to make up for we we lack on the field in talent. So I say please Eric come out of your coma and bring back the Man-genius we all grew to know and love.

I'm not calling for his head. I'm just saying that he needs to make a statement about his leadership by making a change at QB.

He's lost a lot of weight and he looks just sick at times on the sideline. Of course if I was caoching the Jets this year I would look sick at times also.

Yeah he's lost whatever swagger he had.

Chad is the NFL equivalent of the "AV CLub" brown noser in high school that got all the perks but did not deserve them. He just gets so ingratiated to the coach with his attitude and hard work and constantly kissing up to the head coach that they just get attached at the hip. I don't think Mangini will make the switch and that is just sad really.

You hire a ball boy for a coach – he smuggles a play book out of Foxboro, you have a good year against awful opponents and then it all comes unglued.

Its as if all the love in the world has run out…I just don’t get it.

it was all a big conspiracy the whole time:

Mangini gets hired by the Jets, at first making them look competitive against the Pats, only to run them into the ground by not going after any Free Agents, dismantling and disarraying the entire Defense, and continuing to play Pennington; then he goes back to New England and reunites with Belichick for another two-three year Superbowl run.

Vince McMahon couldn't script it better.

Tannenbaum and Mangini were a mistake. Unfortunately, I doubt Johnson really cares all that much whether we win or lose. The amount of money he makes on the team really doesn't change all that much either way. There is no reason for him to make a change.

Mangini isn't going anywhere for at least 2 more years. I will be really pissed at him if he doesn't bench chad, but contrary to popular belief...rebuilding is a reality of the NFL. A lucky first year was probably the biggest detriment to the process, but it has to happen. 2009 will be the season that defines Mangini's coaching tenure and until then, he gets a coupla get-out-of-jail-free cards. Y'all gotta relax with him.

He is instilling a new D with the wrong players. He will have a new O by next year. These things take time to gel. Give him the time he needs.

I don't think this is true. You can't decide someone sucks the second they hit adversity. Every great coach in the NFL ever has had down years.

What will be really telling is how they deal with adversity.

I think DbJ made an excellent post, and it is completely relevant to this. If Mangini has the stones... he will do the right thing, and make the change. Then, the Jets can move on.

"fix the easy problem" ?...finding a franchise qb isn't exactly easy as many teams know....lets not forget that clemens wasn't exactly tearing it up in his first start..he had a good fourth quarter against the ravens, thats it...i know pennington hasnt been good the last 2 weeks, but damn their running is terrible...as is the defense....i'm not saying that clemens shouldnt get his shot this season, but i think not before week 8-9

He'd make a lot more money on Jet's marketed items if the Jets were a great franchise. Look at the Cowboys and the Redskins, they both have enormous revenue streams outside the NFLPA marketing agreement.

How many kids in Indiana are buying Jet's gear right now? A lot of them are buying Yankees gear.
