Exactly, his WRs bail him out all the time and pick up extra yards after the catch.
Come on man, stop the Penny threads. He has to go plain and simple.

You guys need to make up your mind, I thought we could not get any
YAC because Penny has no arm and our receivers have no chance because the DB is there when the ball is, then we you talk about yards per completion, it is because our wide receivers inflate the stats with YAC. You can't have it both ways. The other argument is completion percentage. Don't you think a high completion percentage is important with success????

It's happened more to Coles than to Cotchery over the years, but it happens A LOT.... I remember, specifically, last year's game vs Miami on Christmas, when the Phins DBs and LBs were just sitting on the short routes and DECKING our guys....

How soon we forget the effects a QB who hangs his WRs out to dry can have on them...

Al Toon STILL suffers from post concussion syndrome....

Even Wayne Chrebet was relatively healthy throughout his career until he started catching balls from Pennington... Getting hammered time after time, combined with age spelled the end for Wayne's career...

And now Coles is considering early retirement... These guys are great talents who lose out on valuable years when their QBs hang them out to dry

We have one of the best WR pairs in the league.. of course they can get YAC. Pennington isn't terrible: he knows where to place the ball to give WR a good chance most of the time. He just doesn't give them the chance to make big plays, because they're like 5 yards from the LOS.

CP's completion percentage is 2nd highest in the league.. and we appear to be one of the bottom 5 teams. It's important, but it's just a stat. I'd rather have a QB that can dominate the field than one who has a 75% chance of completing a successful 4 yard "dink and dunk".

beaman...... with your reference to toon(one of my all-time favorites), ken o'brien, had a very good arm. does this somehow relate to our chad situation, or does this just happen to all receivers who consistently go over the middle?

So when Clemens threw 8 yard passes to cotch and cotch turned them into 30 and 40 yarders it was ok but when Chad does it it's not ok? YAC only counts when you have a strong arm I guess.

It was just that O'Brien repeatedly hung Toon out to dry..

He and Pennington do it in different ways.. With O'Brien it didn't have anything to do with his arm, but with Pennington it does... Who knows, maybe[/b] Clemens will end up being a QB who hangs his WRs out to dry too, but, from the limited action we've seen him in, he seems to be able to put the ball in a good enough spot, with enough velocity, so that his receivers don't take huge hits....

Cotchery had a 44 yarder and a 50 yarder I think with Clemens in there.. Both of those were on HARD-THROWN passes that reached Cotchery further than 20 yards downfield.... On deep passes like that, that the QB throws the ball with good velocity is imperative in picking up YAC...

On the short passes, sometimes it's not as important, because the defenders are playing back, or being run off by the other receiving options.

But when it's deep, the WRs are the sole focus of the defenders, and as soon as that ball is in the air, they close.... The ball has to get there quickly if the WRs are going to pick up much YAC...

I thought after this off season his arm strength would improve from last year and he would resemble the Chad of old. Well, his arm is as lame as last year and he will never be the Chad that replaced Vinnie. Its over for Chad. We need to find out about Clemens asap and maybe save the season. I can only go by what I see, no more hoping. If Clemens sucks, so be it, then we need to find someone in the off season. We are going no where with Chad

Surprisingly I don't agree at all with this. Tough recievers are subjected to concussions regardless of who the QB is. When you play on surfaces that are essentially concrete and you extend at high speed your subject to potential head trama. That's exactly what happened to Toon and Chrebet over the years. the short passing game does tend to put WR in position to get blindsided by bigger LB's but for the most part concussions come when guys extend them selves at speed and that's just as likely to happen on a bullit post pattern, sideline pattern as a touch pass over the middle that has to be reached for in an awkward manner.

If we do not see what we have in Clemens this year we will be sitting here having the same argument this time next year. What is happening to the Jets now is what was supposed to happen last year. We got lucky and everything lined up perfectly and we made the playoffs. The fact of the matter is We played bad teams last year and Pennington's faults were able to be worked around. The bottom line is we have a (REAL SCHEDULE) this year as all the Darksiders have pointed out and the Real Chad Pennington has shown up. Chad 2002 is not Chad 2007. He can not win a game with his arm, feet and when he gets a half decent pass rush he can't win it with his smarts because he gets happy feet and makes stupid mistakes. Refer to the alleged attempt to try and throw the ball out of bounds last week on the final drive. A high completion rate when you throw 3 yard passes means nothing. The stat that matters is T/D and Yardage. Please do not use that stupid Qb rating stat to defend him. Every sensible analyst on the planet has said it is a stupid useless stat and they Use Chad as the example of why it is stupid. Chad gets 75% of his yardage from his receivers making yards after the catch. Against good teams that will not fly.

The Diff is Chad puts his receivers in harm more than other Qb's because his passes hang in the air forever. If someone throws a bullet of the middle and gets decked that is part of the deal but if Cotchery has to wait until one of Chads high wobble passes gets to him because his arm is so weak and it allows the Defensive back a chance to build up a 7 yard head of steam that is on Chad for hanging his guy out to dry.

If Chad's passes really hung in the air forever, he'd be intercepted more often. Any defense would rather create turnovers, than tackle a receiver.

If Chad stays in you will buy it this season because Cotch or Coles will definitely be carried off on a stretcher.

Didn't Cotch get hurt when Clemens was in? Head shots that do damage generally are over the middle 15 to 25 yards when the safety is coming over to help and you get a high speed collision. Short balls are generally stoped with a tackle at low or normal speed. You really need a lot of data to prove your point.

Whats sad is Kellen is tied for 24th in 20+ yard passes, and tied for 12th in 40+... in one game.

You mean in 1 Quarter! He did more in the 4th Qtr in that game than Chad has all year!
