We are nowhere near finished yet I am totally disgusted with how the Jets have played so far. We are getting dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball, we have zero running game (no holes), and haven't thrown a ball over 30 yards in who knows how long... However, the great thing about the NFL is that it doesn't take to much to turn an entire season around (ex. Giants in 2000 and Steelers in 2005). If you have seen the standings lately you would know that it is not yet panic time. The wild card is still very much in play. Also don't get to down about the Buffalo loss. Buffalo is one of the toughest places in the league to play. Don't be surprised if Dallas get upset this Monday night. As you can see in this hilarious video the Bills are still very bitter about the 90's.
Nice rant 227, I hope you didn't kick the dog? I really expected a 7 & 9 type season this year I really thought we did a lot with smoke and mirrors against some really bad teams last year. I really don't mind the lossing if there is an end to it in sight. What I'm most pissed about is the passive nature of the team. Mangini and Tanny always talk about smart players but a lot of football is about emotion beating your man and being very physical. Hopefully Mangini has learned that he isn't the only smart guy in the league and other coaches can adjust to the smoke and mirrors. What you can't adjust to is physical talent that's focused, mean and close to rage. We don't have any of that and more than the lossing that's got me pissed.
Well, this is what I'm talking about, Winston. All the emphasis on "Mangini Guys" and quality of character and intangibles is fine and good. What about some of the tangibles, like size, weight, mean-streak, rip-yer-head-off and shit down yer neck-type, Romanowski-esque, Dick Butkus-type smash-mouth, line-dominating, mean, Dirty Dozen bastards? We've scouted and drafted for a finesse team. Even our QB can't be any more finesse-like. Emphasis on speed and agility and good grades in college and ex-Alter Boy, Eagle Scout resumes is great if you're drafting for brokers on the NY Stock Exchange. Well, maybe I'm exagerating just a little. Revis can tackle and be physical and Harris will serve us well. But anybody who is going to build a 3-4... with all that hype about it... well, you've got to know it just won't happen automatically unless you've got the personnel to do it. Grooming Robertson for NT? What the hell is that? I'm just totally perplexed as to the very concept of a 310-lb NT in a 3-4 defense. Belichick must be absolutely besides himself with amusement over this.
Really the question is here...what's the bigger problem, defense or offense? Do they go hand in hand? Will Clemens make enough difference?? Let's face it our defense is swiss cheese, plain and simple. We have a lot of weapons on offense; that is't the problem. It's defense, defense, defense. Defense can improve the offense by giving them good field position, right?
Yeah, defense has given Chad lousy field position often. But then, when we do go on offense, we've got these 12-play (or more) drives going on because Chad is out there threatening no one. I read in this morning's Star-Ledger that the Jets have converted 3rd-down situations 49% of the time this year. And they mentioned it as if this were a good percentage. I don't know if this is a good % or not, but if you're involving 10, 11, 12-plays in each drive, it doesn't take a mathematical genius to figure out that almost all of those drives will stall at some point, which is exactly what happens. If you're only converting 49% of your 3rd downs, you'll have to punt the ball a lot. And this is exactly what's happening. Other teams can surprise a DEF by tossing one deep on 1st down. Bingo!... It's a completion for 40 yards! We have no such threat, so it's the same old 3 yards on 1st down, 2 yards on 2nd down, and now you're at 3rd and 5. Dink and dunk, dink and dunk. Sooner or later you don't make the 1st down conversion and then you have to punt. They play us so close it isn't even funny anymore. They're in so close now they're picking off 5-yard passes! Ridiculous! If I were the Giants' defensive coordinator, I'd be licking my chops anticipating pressuring the hell out of Pennington and making him cough up the ball. After all, he's not going to burn us deep, so what the hell.
Exactly why we do not have a prayer this week if our defense doesn't cause turnovers or get us grrreat field position.
I keep seeing people say that Mangini is coaching not to lose. I remember people constantly saying the same thing when Edwards was here. They have a lot of the same personel. Is this a coincidence? Probably not. When you have a QB that can't light it up now and then, it forces you to play conservatively on D. Take a chance on D and get burned and you're down 7, which is about 40% of the way to beating the Jets. I don't blame it all on Pennington, football is a team sport. Losses are losses though. Depending on what we do this Sunday, this team may need to be shaken up. Few shake ups are as big or bigger then changing your QB.
Too much blame being laid on the lines here. They are improving week to week. We are a RT and a NT away from having very good lines. Chad's play is affecting every aspect of this teams performance. We're not scoring enough points and punt WAY too much. This puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the DL. Without a nice lead, the offense can go run or pass on any given play. Also, we're losing the time of posession battle and giving offenses a short field far too often. This is demoralizing and exausting for a defense, espcially the line. If your defense is struggling, you need to open up the offensive gameplan to relieve some of the pressure. Not an option with Chad.
its a good post my man, and i agree david barett is the worts ive ever seen, and u made an excellent point about motors slowin down in the fourth.........................saying that, i don't think we should pass complete judgement on the 07 jets untill the 6th game, by then we should be in full season form, which i don't think mangini did a good job of in tc
shut up you fool, go away u 11yr old bandwagon fool, u prolly couldn't even name the colts starters, JACKASS
Good point, and a gutsy call on "too much blame on the lines." But I especially like "Chad's play is affecting every aspect of this team's performance."
honestly i dont know what to think or predict about the team right now. this week says alot about the team. 1-2 going into buffalo no one expected a loss and that might be a big reason why we got one.. it happens. yes the giants are extremely inconsistent and yes at times we have looked like one of the bottom 3 teams in the league.. so i dont know what i to expect. ive been a big supporter of chad but i hated the way he played against buffalo. just by looking at throws and by watching the play calls.. i was wondering if his shoulder was starting to bother him again. i still wont say its time to go to clemens, and i still personally dont know exactly where the blame should fall.. and im definitely not making any ridiculous claims like we have absolutely no talent on the team and we need a coaching change.. but i think ill know a lot more about how this season will go after this week.. thats my two cents..
This is right on – the lack Chad’s ability to keep a defense honest is exacerbating the offensive lines issues. Besides that – our defense has looked night and day different when the offense is producing for as long as I can remember. I get flamed for this as a “Chad Hater” (when truthfully it’s nothing personal) but you cant even begin to evaluate the team until you deal with the quarterback.
