After a loss, it usually takes me several days to come out of the funk it puts me in. And I try not to post immediately afterwards anyway, because it's too fresh. Am I alone, or is anyone else as totally disgusted already as I am? Maybe it's not even that we're 1-3, it's the fact that we LOOK like a 1-3 team that really bothers me. I'm sorry, but that's what we look like. Project that out and you've got a 4-12 team by December. We should have beaten the Bills. And were it not for a little luck in the onsides kick, Miami might have caught us too, making us 0-4. The Giants? You want to talk about the Giants? Are you kidding me? The Giants? Anyway, here's the way I see it. We need changes if we're going to have any shot at the playoffs. But I highly doubt changes will be made until it's too late. That's just the way things are. I especially feel bad because I reported many positive things I saw at TC this summer... possibly it can be said some of my posts were cause for others' optimism here on the board. It must have been my green sunglasses. I felt good about Chad at Camp. Now I can't even stand the sight of him. I've been a supporter for a very long time, but I just can't take the dink and dunk anymore. It is IMPOSSIBLE to win games against even an average defense who game-plans against the lack of a deep threat. Case closed. And no change will be forthcoming. If the remote possibility exits that Penny will be benched, it'll almost certainly come too late for us to go anywhere this season. "Stay the course. We need consistency..." The only thing consistent right now is we look like shit. I talked about 310-lb DeWayne Robertson being too small to be a NT in the 3-4. I'm no line expert (and I always admit that up front), but if even I can tell you this with certainty, it should be on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine too, for all they would know about it. My point being, how long do we keep 3 guys going up front, with 310-lb Robertson in this misplaced position, establishing NO pass rush, no pressure on the QB and getting absolutely trampled on run plays? Again, no change coming there apparently either, so case closed. I know we lack the personnel, but why can't we can't we go to a 4-3 more often, or some such other tactic. Move the line around, get Pouha involved more, do SOMETHING! Smaller, faster linemen can't do much against all that beef in the first 3 quarters and by the 4th quarter, they're so dead tired from fighting with all that beef, they totally collapse. Even Miami made us look like shit in the 4th quarter and Buffalo controlled the lines all day long. Quite predictable. Justin McCareins? I started disliking him last year. My dislike grew to intense dislike. Now I despise the guy. "Oh, keep him... he's a decent #3." He shouldn't be in Pop Warner the way he displayed a total disinterest in the interception. Ever hear of fighting for a ball, Justin? Totally disgusted. Another guy we should have jettisoned last year even, and didn't. David Barrett? A total pile of parrot droppings and another number that makes my stomach churn when I see it on the field. Jonathan Vilma? I'd still like to see what he has in a real 3-4, not the joke of a defense we call our 3-4. But until then, we'll continue seeing him unable to fight off defenders much less make tackles because we need to be more "consistent." What kind of psychobabble is that? We're "consitent" all right. Consistently lousy. There's more... I could get into the coaching, but maybe I'd better not. I still like Mangini, but I'm not for "staying the course" now. If that's where we're going, there will be a lot more disgusted fans at the Bye than there are now. That's my rant for now and I'm sticking to it. And thanks for listening.
It's a good rant, but you know the Jets. Someone made a point that the Buffalo game is the game we always lose, which is true. However, then when when everyone is down on us that's when we win a game and stun everyone. Another thread stated that we suck every year we play the NFC East. That's true too lately which makes you nervous about this week. As a Jets fan, and as an NFL fan, you have to forget everything you saw last week and focus on watching them beat the Giants. Every bad year, you just want to get back to .500. Whether it's at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6...just get back to .500 and you have a shot at the playoffs......Playoffs?....PLAYOFFS?
Wow, 227. I was in a giddy joking around, generally not giving a crap how bad things were. Then I read your post. Dude, that just depressed me immensely. Wow, we really do suck that much, don't we?
I avoid football for the entire week and usually require a phone call from my dad (Who actually got to see a Championship) we rehash all the old war stories of the Jets of yesteryear and it calms me down. Then I talk to my Best friend who is Just as Rabid as I am and he puts it all in prospective for me (The usual excuses) If Nugent makes the kick we're tied and playing for the win , The defense cant stop anyone ,so How’s it Chad’s fault ,ect. Ill be at the game next week flying from Florida so if we loose its going to require an intervention and an exorcism to bring me back from the dead!
Our defense made Trent Edwards look like the second coming of Tom Brady. How the hell do you do that? Seriously. On offense, it's clear Schottenheimer has no confidence in Pennington. Even when we're behind and the clock is ticking, it's impossible to go deep or the game is over because of an interception. So we dink and dunk our way to try to set up the FG, out of total fear of Chad's floaters. Man, I am still pissed from Sunday even. Make the freakin' change. Do it now. If the season goes up in smoke, at least Clemens will have had the benefit of the experience on the field. Playing Chad the rest of the year is going to be total, slow-death water-torture.
Actually, I was disgusted after week 1 and again after week 2. After we played like crap against MIA but won, I knew the season is/was over. Against Buf it proved my original feelings. The team always looks flat, and Mangini is coaching "not to lose".
sure, we always lose to the Bills but we don't have to. the fact that we do reflects how far the Jets are from being serious Championship contenders, even the years they make the playoffs. that loss last week was an accurate reflection on this team, from the players to the coaches. the Jets are a bad 1-3 team. compare that to the Giants, who got their asses beat the first two games of the season, but had the ability to gut out a win against an undefetaed team and then dominate a team that scored 50 points the week before. the Giants are clearly leaps and bounds better than the Jets, yet the Jets will continue with this same bad team hoping for different results. this team hasn't shown one thing that would make me believe they have the ability to play better than they have.
Watch out – if you express the fact that you are disgusted there are plenty of ass jacks around here who will point out that you are not a real fan and should find another team.
The most diappointing thing about this season so far is that everything that has gone wrong was predictable from about June 1st on. What kind of management team allows obvious holes to turn into gaping ones by not only ignoring them but actually cutting players who might help? I know people think I rag on this too much, but between free agency, the draft and the pre-TC period there was ZERO starting talent acquired in the offensive line and the front 7 on defense. Kenyon Coleman would be a decent rotational guy if you had somebody else at about his ability level swapping with him. Then at least they'd both be fresh while the opposing tackle wore down. That's how he was used in Dallas, BTW. Nobody else that the Jets acquired has made any impact at all on either line and some people have gotten worse. This offseason the Jets are going to be in the position of being forced to make major upgrades on both lines in order for the Jets to be really competitive in 2008. The odds on that working out are low so we're really looking at 2009 at the earliest. That's a sad commentary on a team that had the opportunities this team had in 2006 and 2007. Blowing a year really sets you back.
Yes, and thanks for the warning, Vick. Not a problem though. Just ranting for a way to turn things around.
I never bought into the Tangini or Mangenius stuff last year. unfortunately, they both did, and it has set this team back drastically.
Sec. 227. I am totally with you man. I saw this coming in the pre-season, but I hoped I was wrong. Pass and run blocking was horrid, no pass rush, no run defense and CP looke like he did last year. Guess what, they still look like that. I can not stand the thought of CP being our QB anymore. Great guy, great teamate, tough guy... etc does not make up for a weak arm. We have no vertical passing game. I know the running game was non-existent and the defense sucked against Buff, but we gave up 17 points on the road. Our QB has to put us on his back and get us a W dammit. You do not have to play well in all 3 phases or play well for 60 minutes to win a game in the NFL. You need to make plays when it matters. Our QB does not make plays and never will.
but, but, what about that TD bomb to Santana Moss in the SD playoff game? remember, Chad pointing to his arm as he ran downfield.
Seriously. I have been supporting Chad for as long as I can remember (even when he was down on injuries) but now I'm fed up with it. When Trent Edward threw INT at the endzone, even though it was intercepted, the ball in flight was such a beautiful sight - and just the kind of thing Jets do not have. Chad's throw lacks zip, and doesn't fly far either. I've been thinking, for instance, if the secondary is giving that much of a cushion, stop-and-go route might work perfectly in an ideal situation - when Coles stops and Chad pump-fakes, the secondary will have to bite on it. That's when Coles breaks free, and gives himself a wide open look. Nah. Ain't happening. Chad ain't got an arm to deliver the ball deep down the field with authority in such a situation. This team in general looks in disarray; the defense is soft, the offense can't stretch the field, and they are consistently (Yeah, consistency is a big thing in this team) losing the battle at the LOS. Opposing offense always seems to have a field day with how to carve this juicy turkey called Jets D. Jets O is worse - one penalty and you are almost guaranteed to get the ball back in that series. How fucked up is that? Ok. enough with negative stuff - it makes my stomach turn. I'd like to see some serious house cleaning (that should have been done before LAST YEAR) after the season if the team as a whole does not improve. (And I strongly believe that will be the case, from the way the team has looked.)
