It's painfully obvious that the guy doesn't fit as an ILB in a 3-4 system. He's too small/weak to play inside OR outside in the 3-4. Honestly I believe he HAS to be traded. The sooner the better.... like tomorrow. Literally trade him tomorrow! His value is decreasing every single day. I believe we could land a late first or early second (valued similar to J. Abraham a couple of years back).

What are everyone's thoughts on TRADING Vilma?

I think we will stick with him, and that is fine with me. Although if we did trade him for a late first round pick, that would be fine with me as well.

How about we run a 4-3 defense and keep him.

He missed a few tackles yesterday but overall i thought he played well. If anyone noticed..when Harris was in and occupied a blocker, Vilma was making big hits at the line of scrimmage. For the last time, he is NOT our major problem so forget about trading him.

Do you realize that he led the team in tackled yesterday? Seriously, look at the stats for Christ's sake. Sure, he doesn't fit the system, but what in the hell are we going to do if we don't have him?

I thinks it's bad for that coaching staff to take one of the best young PLAYERS in the game. That was becoming an elite player the NFL were using to help promote the league. A player you can build a "D" around. (some parts were already there). Then put in a game plan that does not play to the strength that made him so good.
The Tuna had it right when he got to dallas. He put in a scheme that best fit the players there. Then put in his scheme when he got his own players in.

honestly, i don't give a flying turd what the stats say. yes, i am aware that vilma led the team in tackles yesterday. whoop-dee-doo! gee, an inside linebacker leading the team in tackles... WOW! BIG FRIGGIN DEAL! that's just the way it works more often than not. chances are, whoever is in at linebacker will come away from the game with a team-high in tackles.

the problem is that vilma is overmatched and undersized. rarely does comes up big. he NEVER seems to lay a licking on a running back. he doesn't strike fear in his opponent. it seems that the announcers say it almost every week some time around the 3rd quarter... "jonathan vilma on the stop... gee, it seems we haven't called vilma's name very often this afternoon."

furthermore, lately...even when he gets out in space, he seems to be either running himself out of the play, getting beaten to the outside, or flat out missing tackles. he's not showing me good instincts as a linebacker. honestly, i think that a platoon of harris, barton and hobson on the inside would perform just as well.... which brings me to another point... WHY THE HELL DO WE CONTINUE TO USE SLOW FOOTED HOBSON ON THE OUTSIDE?! ok, i can't take it anymore... i'm done... goodnight.

everything i am saying is based on the fact that we're not switching back to the 4-3. i LIKE vilma in the 4-3. in the 3-4 he's a complete waste of talent. if we're sticking with the 3-4, trade him. now.

I think that mangini was wrong to come in and switch to the 3-4 with a team whose Star DT, DE, and LB are all 1st round players who thrive in a 4-3. and i guess we are feeling the growing paines of that switch, but part of those growing pains is getting rid of those players and adding players that fit the new scheme, but he hasnt done that, hes kept the same players and is expecting them to play positions they are not physically built for.
Manginis 3-4 switch is not working and has practically failed....
He hasnt really drafted any players to add to the 3-4 except for Puoha and Finally Harris. (and i dont think Revis falls in either category, right?(4-3 3-4))
I think he needs to switch back to a 4-3 (after this year, cause a mid year switch is kinda inconceivable right?) or trade our big name players who just dont physically fit our 3-4. And i dont think mangini has the cohones to do either, so uhhh.........were kinda fucked:up:

We should have traded him for DPs this past offseason.

    I actually loved that...

People are going to shred Vilma, because he had a couple plays where he was a step slow getting to Lynch, and of course he had that facemask, but the fact that people are noticing him is a good sign....

When Harris was in there, a lot of the time, Harris was stepping up to the LOS, or even a little into the backfield, and taking on a blocker.... Vilma was clean almost the entire game....

This against a pretty solid offensive line....

Vilma, for the first time since Mangini got here, was running all over the field, rarely getting stuck on blockers, and I think a lot of that has to do with Robertson progressing as a NT, and Harris playing next to him.... As this happens more and more, we'll see Vilma flying sideline to sideline, and making more and more plays....

That forced fumble was his first real impact play since 2005... And notice, it was near the sideline... He's roaming much more....

Even the missed tackle on Lynch with the facemask, Vilma didn't get defeated by a G, like he had so often the last season and 3 games, and he ran to the sideline to try and make a play...

    All very good signs!

If Vilma is going to succeed as a 3-4 ILB, he's going to need to be surrounded by size....

Harris is a PERFECT compliment to Vilma in the 3-4, and, if Robertson gets any better, or we bring in a 3-4 NT, all may not be lost for Vilma in this scheme....

I saw flashes Sunday, that really lifted my spirits as far as the 3-4 goes... It's still a work in progress, but we're getting somewhere....

Excellent post, though i think Vilma is unhappy playing in the 3-4 and it is affecting his play and mindset.

Shhhh, tuds, people have their preconcieved agendas to promote.

He led the team in tackles last year, too, is spite of being in a fish out of water position.

I love these heart felt rants to cash in our best Linebacker. the notion of this is more far fetched then benching Chad!

Yeah I tend to agree that he should be benched, its time to go with the youth ; But that not likely to happen sorry to say . Mangini will not pull the trigger just yet.

On Madden I can get a Left Guard with over a 90 rating and a 1st Rd Pick for Vilma.

If it works on Madden it will work in reaal life!

Tonight I'll see what 340 plus pound DT I can get for Chad Pennington.

That should solve all of our problems...right?
