I guess he'll try and make another comeback this year. He hasn't pitched in 2 years though so I'm not sure how he fits into the Mets plans.

I've been browsing the list of free agent pitchers for a back of the rotation pitcher. What do you guys know about Joel Pineiro and Carlos Silva? They were primarily in the AL, so all I really know about them are their stats and their contracts.

I would dangle Beltran to see if we could get a good young pitcher in return. It is pretty clear that upgrading the pitching staff is the main priority..

If Anderson Hernandez can prove that he can hit in the majors, there's your insurance policy for Gotay. He did make big strides in AAA this season compared to last season.

    Otherwise, there's always Marlon Anderson.

Is anyone else concerned with Reyes' season-ending flop? The guy's play seriously crashed and burned. There has to be an underlying reason. There was no apparent injury and yet he hit the wall. Hard. Boomer this morning hinted at some type of bad influence by Castillo. Is anyone more familiar with this statement who could shed some light on it? I'm seeing a huge red flag going into next season with this guy. Call me crazy but I suspect a problem. I wouldn't mind seeing him dealt if we could get a Yohan or other blue chip in return. If he's truly gone in the tank we ought to get value while we can.

I'm OK with the Infirmary Brothers, Beltran and Alou, as long as Endy's healthy to spell them when they need to be institutionalized. Delgado and Lo Duca need to move on. I'd have no problem w/ Gotay at 2nd. Valentin is too old and Green should retire as well. The pitching is another story and it will be a challenge for Omar to make all the necessary changes. Most of the travellers should be obvious but I'd also jettison Wagner. On top of his dead arm issues he points the finger when things go wrong. Of course there's too much to do to get done so I'd be surprised if all this addition by subtraction is accomplished. It also remains to be seen if our owner will allow a competitive budget. Unlike last year we need to be prominent players in FA.

I can't believe I'm seeing posts here with people saying they want Lastings Milledge on this team in 2008.

Then again, I saw comments here last year with people saying they wanted Tom Glavine on this team in 2007.

So your plan to improve the pitching is to dump 2 of the team's 3 best relievers and cut the guy who was the team's best SP over the first 5 months? Wow

El Duque was brought aboard in large part to pitch in the postseason and/or any key games down the stretch in the regular season. He failed to do so in both seasons. Going forward, he cannot and must not be counted upon as a starting pitcher.

This thread is too depressing while the Phillies and Yanks are still playing...

I'll stop in once both their seasons end... Maybe...

Wagner can't pitch in a big game if it depended on his life. He blows it 8 out of 10 times. Feliciano is just awful in the role he's being used in. If they are gonna keep him, it better be to only face left-handed batters. Anytime we see Heilman come in when the game was on the line, he blows it.

I've had it with El Duque not being around for two straight years when we needed him the most. Find an alternative, one who can make it to the end of the season.

So how do we get rid of those guys? Who do we replace them with? I'm not sure that's realistic.

Here's the FA you guys should sign.

The Tigers are leaning towards declining Ivan Rodriguez's $13 million option for 2008.

As disappointing as Pudge was offensively this season, he'd still be the best catcher available in free agency, assuming that the Yankees re-sign Jorge Posada. Bringing him back for one year at $10 million (they'd have to pay a $3 million buyout to let him go) seems pretty reasonable. If they don't want to go there, they could sign Paul Lo Duca to start or attempt to trade for Ramon Hernandez or Brian Schneider. Oct. 1 - 3:29 pm et

The problem is that Posada is the only attractive free agent catcher out there, and I don't see him getting on the subway and coming to Queens.

Not at all a surprise to me, although obviously a disappointment.

I-Rod is terrible. He had 9(!!!) walks in 502 AB's last season. Barrett was unbelievably bad in SD this year but he's the only other FA catcher I'd have any interest in other then Posada. He's been one of the best offensive catchers over the last few years.

As far as the Randolph news goes, this now means that Lo Duca, Green, Castillo, Mota and Show absolutely must not be on the team next season, no matter what.
