I'm so excited about the possibility of a 4 team tiebreaker creating a scheduling nightmare for the playoffs..
"I don't care if it's broke," said Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who left the game after being struck on the left hand by a pitch from Maine (X-rays showed the hand was not broken). "I'm gonna play tomorrow. [Screw] everybody on the Mets. I'm going to kick their [butts]." Tomorrow should be fun.
From tomorrow's NY Times article: Translation: they're both psychotic, Olivio instigated, Reyes instigated back, and Fredi Gonzalez knows it's Olivio who started it.
Olivo is obviously lying. Reyes "got excited" but Olivo is the one that charged over to 3rd base. Right.
Here is the tiebreaker fun that gets me very excited: Minus the Diamondback scenerios. Edit: Here is some more:
the last two I can't answer, but Castillo had 3 hits that same game, and he's batting nearly .300. this is fun.
I don't understand the "choice". Who the hell would opt to have to win 2 home games rather then 1 away game(against a team that had played an elimination game the day before)?
He's had a good last couple games but he's still not a very good hitter, especially in the 2 hole. There's this myth that the 2nd place hitter needs to be good at "moving the runner over" or some other such nonsense you hear about Castillo or Lo Duca last year when the truth is that SLG % is actually the most important attribute for a guy batting 2nd.
I don't get it either. The former team is going to have their bullpen likely spent from the night before. San Diego would love to have a 1 game scenerio. They have Peavy gunned for a play-in game or Game 1 of the NLDS.
The only reason to go for the "two wins at home" choice is for the money in tickets; in baseball of all sports (where the home field advantage is so small), from the point of view of maximizing your chances to win choosing to win two games instead of one (in any location) is the height of stupidity.
you mean a padres loss. no ties in baseball. the three games tomorrow: Marlins at Mets: Willis vs. Glavine Nationals at Phillies: Bergmann vs. Moyer Padres at Brewers: Tomko vs. Suppan Diamondbacks at Rockies: Doug Davis vs. Ubaldo Jimenex
Tomorrow should be a great sports day. We already had one a few Sundays ago with the US Open Mens Final, Week 1 of the football, and all the baseball stuff happening. But even I'm really into this NL stuff since the AL has been pretty boring the last month or so.
It would be cool to see one of these crazy tiebreakers but they never seem to materialize. And of course from a Mets fans point of view I'd be thrilled with a Mets win and a Phillies loss.
