I've noticed that some people are calling for Bob Sutton's head. Some news outlets are also saying: http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1190780745300800.xml&coll=1&thispage=2 How about Brian's dad? Aside from the fact that it'd be pretty cool to have a father/son DC/OC, would he be any good at it? I know Marty is known more for his offense than his defense, but I believe he did play linebacker, and does have DC experience. What do you guys think?
I'd rather hire a guy who has been a 3-4 proponent for all of his career and let him fix the Jets 3-4 the right way. Mangini is the head coach based on his experience in the New England dynasty, not based on being particularly good at coaching the 3-4. Let's let him do the dynasty thing and hire a good 3-4 DC to do the 3-4 thing.
we was a head coach via defensive coordinator, so I don't see how he is more known for his offense. don't confuse SD's offensive success under him as him being an offensive coach, he simply hired a good offensive coordinator that installed an offense that was productive. but he was never known as an offensive coach.
I think this Bills game is going to be a big deciding factor for our D. If our D looks like crap against this squad then we have no choice but to point some fingers. It is still early to tell though.
Every friggin’ year this team is looking for a new coordinator whether it’s the OC or the DC regardless of the coach.
He'd be a major improvement over what we have. But what Mangini needs to do is hire a good DC, just like MS hired a good OC.
I don't think he'd come back as a coordinator...he's already proved that he has was it takes to be a WINNING Head Coach. He should get his old job back, but that probably won't happen. He'll end up some where, at least he deserves to.
You will never fix this defense without replacing everybody on it. At least if he insists on staying with the 3-4. Ellis can't play in a 3-4, Robertson is a joke at nose and for that matter so is Vilma with what is expected of him.
Marty is an old time coach. I do not think his expertise is as a coordinator as much as it is/was running an entire club.
Sorry, but a coach who got unfavorably ran out of a town after going 14-2 is not going to just settle for a Coordinator job, he deserves more than that if he wants back into the league
Why in gods name would he do that? He's been a head coach forever. He was run out of town because he didn't get along witht he GM who is on a power trip, no other reason. I'd bank on him head coaching in the league next yr. He didn't this year because he was fired after all jobs were filled on purpose by the spiteful GM (AJ Smith).
...If we hired Marty, we would have the number one D....until the playoffs. I would LOVE to see Mike Westcof (sp) promoted to Defensive Coordinator. He is ALWAYS so focused and prepared, his special teams have historically been the best in the nation year after year. I have no clue why Miami ever let him go. He is an awsome, detailed, prepared coordinator. I would love to see what he could do with an entire Defense.
Well, maybe if the Jets get somebody in here who has actually coached the 3-4 for any significant period of time they'll realize that changes are inevitable. I think it's Mangini's inexperience that is costing us here. The only 3-4 he's ever coached was the one that Crennel and Belichik built in New England and he wasn't particularly adept at coaching that one.
Looking at how badly San Diego is struggling without him, you've gotta think people are taking notice and realizing that he had more to do with their success than previously thought... He'll get a HC job somewhere.... I miss Donnie Henderson... He was the only DC we've had in a while that had our defense playing genuinely, consistently good football.....
when you watch the defense line up in a 3-4 it just looks bad imo. the personnell is much better than theyve shown, and a big part of that is the defense was predicated on speed and solid tackling....using great technique. all under a 4-3...which is a place id like to get back into. theres only a handful of guys on the defense that has experience in the 3-4 and did it well (david harris comes to mind. i know i know it was college, but it michigan)
