i don't care either way but you breezed by the end of the game thing which I think was his entire point... for the 8 games that count I don't think it's alot to ask that the fans watch and cheer... but it's a free country so whatever

BS. I'm not saying the people that post here weren't cheering, but the crowd noise (or lack thereof) at our games on average is usually an embarrassment. Today was no different.

it was plenty loud enough for chrebet at halftime. aside from the washington return there weren't many "get up and go crazy" plays on offense pretty much all of the drives were the grind it out a few yards at a time variety. as far as cheering for the defense...if people want to blame the gutless, pathetic play that we've seen every week from these clowns on the home crowd, then have at it, i guess.

Our defense is not worth the effort to get up on 3rd down. Its a joke how bad they are in 3rd and short. You want the place rocking???? PLAY DEFENSE!!!!!

    Agreed!

I was at the Jets home opener and was consistently told to sit down everytime I would stand up and get loud. People were mad cause I was blocking their view, WTF, that shit works at a Barbera Streisand (spelling?), not a Jets Game.

The crowd today was ridiculous, my GF and I sitting on my couch were like what the shit is this, horrible. I should get my season tix in the next couple of years, cant wait to go in and be loud.

The Mets fans in Florida were louder then the Meadowlands today.

no. It works at Jets games too. My seats are in the first row, upper deck. Have been for a long time now. People were always yelling at me or my friend Walt all the time for standing up, especially on a third and long play where the entire crowd should be up on their feet. One guy who always yelled at us every damn game, I finally got pissed off at and told him to go the fuck home. He would come to the game with a mini tv, and a transistor radio with headphones. WTF???? I simply told him to fuck off and go home. Thats why the games are on TV, for people like him. Jets fans use to be one of the rowdiest and one the most respected/hated fans in the NFL, due to our rowdiness or knowledge, but we were respected to a degree. Nowadays, we are shit for fans.

I just think all those rowdy fans from years ago just got older and there is no loyalty from any player, coach or ownership anymore. It`s all about the $$$$$ and I think many fans have finally caught on to it. Just win the fucking games already NY Jets. 37 years is a bit much for any football fan.

Well, I go to the games and sit up close. We usually go up and grab some seats near the exit so we can run out when the deciding play is made, whatever that play may be (FG, stopped on downs, Interception, etc). Getting stuck in the parking lot for an hour and then in traffic for another and getting home at 8 for a 1 o'clock game sucks. In fact, it ruins the day. I usually make it home to LI by 5:30 and can eat dinner with my family doing this. Every few years it backfires, but so what? I get enough football. Screw Alios post and screw the Jets for playing in Jersey. They get enough support from me with my time, money and yelling on third down, where I don't have to ruin 8 Sundays every year missing important family moments to stay till the end of a game that 9 times out of 10 is over anyway . I also don't have to stand there going Whoooooooo at the top of my lungs all game long like I'm at the Goodys headache powder 500 and Dale Earnhardt just took the lead.

I've been a season ticket holder for 27 years and I was there and I agree with some of Alio's point and disagree with others.

In defense of the crowd today:

    1. They gave Pennington a big ovation when he took the field for the Jets first possession.

    2. The crowd really cheered for Chrebet at halftime. They gave him a standing ovation for about 2-3 minutes while he walked out of the tunnel with his kids.

    3. This was an 0-2 team coming in. You can't compare it to the end of the 2002 season.

    4. While it's not an excuse, you have to consider that it was unbearably hot today. I can't explain how uncomfortable it is to sit in the blaring sun for 31/2 hours, but it takes a lot out of you. By the second half you are drenched in sweat.

    5. While it was not a fairly exciting game, there not a lot of big plays by the Jets to get the crowd going, other than the Washington KO return. The Dolphins had the ball almost the entire first half.

    6. As for thing about cheering for the defense - blame the defense and not the fans. The Dolphins had 28 first downs today and only three came on third down. That means that the Dolphins got 25 of their first downs BEFORE third down. So to say the crowd did not the help the defense is BS. The Jet defense was horrible and did not make plays to get the crowd going. All I saw today was the Dolphin defense marching up and down the field. In three games, the Jet defense has 1 sack and 1 turnover. That is not the fans fault. One more thing - the Jets stopped the Dolphins on 6 of 9 third downs, so not supporting the team on third down with noise was not the problem.

    7. There is so much artificial noise pumped in that it takes the "game" away from the crowd. During time outs, the PA system plays lame songs or rap or hip hop songs that tend to annoy rather than excite most fans. When they were auditioning fans for the JETS cheer, the PA system kept drowning out the crowd with some kind of medieval chant type music.

8.. Fireman Ed does the chant maybe 8 times a game and never during the game - such as on third downs. His effect on the crowd is way overrated.

    To blast the fans:

    1. I agree with the arrive late, leave early thing. At kickoff, the stands are about a third full. There is just no excuse for that. I have never missed a kick off in my life. I can't explain it, other than to say, as we have seen on this board, many people consider the tailgate more important than the game. I tailgate before every game and I start to clean up by 12:15 and head in by 12:30. While I am going in, the parties are still going in full force. Drinking beer in the parking lot is far more important than the game for most Jet fans, sad as it is to say.

    2. Fans leaving early is a big problem. If you have tickets plan on being in the stadium for 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Then add on the time it takes you to get home. If that amount of time does not fit into your plans for the day, stay home and give your tickets to someone else. Do these fans leave movies early? It makes no sense to leave before the most important part of the game.

    4. Many fans come to games just to drink and yell, but are not good fans. I'll give you an example. There are a couple of fans that sit two rows in front of me. They arrive late for every game and stand in the way and block my view multiple times a game. On third downs , they stand up and waive their arms. I yell on third downs, but I don't always want to stand and my son can't see if everyone stands. The players are not helped if people stand, only if they make noise. These peole in front of me get upset if the section doesn't stand with them and even more upset if I ask them to sit. Then they miss half the game getting beer and going to the bathroom and then they always leave early. Standing and waving your arms on third down does not make you a good fan. Arriving on time, staying for the whole game, and cheering for your team does. Period.

I agree about getting in before kickoff & the leaving early, that drives me crazy . I have had season tix for about 10 years now and have yet to miss a kickoff or leave before the final whistle.

As for the noise, it was loud at times, the stadiums reaction to Chad was good. When the Jets made plays, we cheered. The D is making it hard to get excited when they are giving up the 1st down on pretty much every 3rd down. Overall i thought the crowd was about average, not the loudest I have ever heard but certainly not the most quiet either.

Anyway people that don't go to the games have no right to complain. If you're not happy about the crowds, do something about it, go to the game and get everyone fired up. I hear there is opening..

The crowd was much better this game than it was the last game. The people that run the Jumbotron put Ed's imitators on. After big plays the crowd was very loud. But when, Ronnie "I've never done anything against any other team" Brown is running all over the defense, the crowd isn't gonna get too pumped.

If you live on LI and your aim is to be home by 5:30 - you should stay home. To make it home by 5:30, you have to leave by 3:30. What's the point? Do you turn your TV off 10 minutes before a show ends so you can go to bed earlier? Do you leave a movie 15 minutes early so you don't get stuck in the aisle with the crowd leaving? Do you go the beach on a weekend and leave at 2pm to beat the crowd even though the weather is perfect? It makes no sense to invest all that time and money in a sporting event only to miss the ending just to get home by 5:30 instead of 6 or 6:30.

hold on there yahooski. 5 minutes may be the difference between a 3 hour commute or a 1.5 hour commute. It`s like that in the NYC metro area these days. That goes for am rush and pm rush, along with Yankees/Mets games, Jets/Giants games, Rangers/Devils games or Nets/Knicks games. I won`t include Islanders because only people who live around the corner from Nassau go to those games.

Hey nothing personal and don't be offended but that is really lame. Like I said in an earlier post try living 5 hours away from the team that you have season tickets for. I have Charger season tix and San Diego is a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas. I have to spend the night in California in a hotel so try getting home the next day.

I don't look at going to games as well ....going to games. It's an event. You can sacrifice a few Sundays a year to support your team. If you wanna do the family thing evry Sunday that's fine I understand but to use it an excuse is lame. The two years I lived in Phoenix I had Cardinals tickets and you wanna talk about a reason to hate yourself try rooting for those guys. Yet I never missed a kickoff and was there until the end of everygame.

So then stay home and don't worry about the five minutes. Those five minutes contain the deciding plays in a game. Take today for instance. If the Jets don't recover the onside kick, who knows what the final would have been, but by then the stadium was 2/3 empty.

Going to a game involves a time commitment, whether it be 4 hours or 9 hours, depending on where you live. If you can't make the commitment, don't go.

And don't call me yahooski. I've been going to games since 1981 and have commuted from three different states when my ride has varied from 10 minutes in the early 80's when I lived in Queens to a couple of hours or more when I lived in Connecticut or LI and traveled to the Meadowlands. Either way, I have never missed a kick off and have left early once to attend a relatives wedding.
