You all probably know what I am going to say. But these 3 are the reason our defense sucks so bad. I personally dont like the scheme because when we blitz, we blitz EVERYONE and leave our CBs on a island, but we are forced to because Bryan Thomas sucks as a pass rusher. He almost NEVER beats his guy off the line, and when he does, he misses the sack. I know a lot of you hate on Barton, but he atleast brings some fire to our defense. BT is the softest "3-4 rush LB" there is.

Secondly, David Barrett should NEVER play on any NFL team. Id rather have Poteat or Coleman in there 100% if Dyson cant go. His man gets open EVERY time and that is the reason our blitzes dont work.

Finally, everyone on this board seems to love Vic Hobson. I like his play up on the line of scrimmage during run plays, but when he has to make an open-field tackle, I literally close my eyes. He misses more tackles than anyone and is too slow to catch up on a play.

The only positives on defense today were Vilma and Harris manning the middle and getting to the ball and Rhodes finally picking a ball off. IMO, fire Sutton and let mangini call the defense, sit barrett for poteat or coleman, blitz one or two guys instead of all 4 LBs, move barton to the outside, and start Harris in the middle.

Unfortunately, I cant agree today.. Barrett played good in certain spots, very inconsistent though....

Harris is looking good, and Vilma is finally adjusting, as the season goes on he is going to beast.

Barrett always plays better as the season goes on. Thats why in the beginning of the season there are countless "CUT BARRETT!" threads, but by week 8 there are "BARRETT STEPPING UP!" threads.

Just another reason why we are message board posters and the coaches are coaches.

Did Thomas even play today? He managed to not record a single stat.

personally besides last season BT has been worthless, and now that he has a new contract, he has been just that, worthless.

If you're talking about on the fake pass draw, that was David Harris.

i expect some aspect of the D to be overhauled next year, though i'm not sure if it'll be coaches or players or both.

between Barton and Hobson, one of them should be gone. i think it's almost a wash because by next year, Barton will be that much older. either way, one of them will be replaced by (hopefully) a more talented LB, one who can rush the passer.

Barrett is trash. i've never been more frustrated watching another player. saying he'll step it up by Week 8 is inexcusable when he's a veteran in this league.

There were about 6 times in today's game where the Phins could have broken a huge play and scored except that Barrett made a big tackle.

Yeah our defense was barely on the field today and when they were, the ball was being thrown over the LBs heads into the secondary. He made very good run stuffing tackles today and broke up a couple passes. Harris only had two tackles but I thought he played well. Stats dont say everything. Barrett gets 12 tackles a game because the receivers he covers catch every pass and he has to tackle them.

I've seen enough of Hobson not having any speed off the edge. We need to replace him at OLB.

Thomas has not looked very good this year as well. If we are unable ot get any pressure out of our OLB's in a 3-4 we are royally screwed. So far this has proven to be true.

I thought the D line played a bit better out there today. They also fail to cause enough disruption of the pocket on passing downs. At this point I have little faith in any of our front 7 to get to the QB and thats not a good feeling.

Barrett has not been good so far this year, but that was by far his best game to date. I have a hard time knocking any of the DB's when the opposing QB has so much time to throw.

Kinda a weak point considering Trent Green was 23/36 for 318 yards. With an O line as bad as theirs, he should never pass for that much. Dont get me wrong, our run d is not stout by any means, but our passing D is far worse. But its not like Ronnie Brown broke us for 150 or something. Letting Trent Green pass for 320 yards is unacceptable. Which goes back to my point in saying, BT is not very good and doesnt get near the pressure his contract tells him to. David Barrett is letting every receiver catch every ball. And Hobson missed SEVERAL tackles on swing passes to Ronnie Brown because hes horrible in the open field.

I mentioned the run stats because you made it seem as if Vilma had no opportunities to make tackles, what with Green throwing into the secondary all game.

It's not the secondary or the linebackers that are the problem, it is the DL. Coleman is playing well, but Robertson is no nose tackle and Ellis a complete waste. I'm sorry, but after watching the Atlanta game today, I am convinced again the Jets gave the wrong guy the big money. For all of his injuries, Abraham makes plays - sacks, forced fumbles etc. I'll take that for 8 games a season rather than 16 games of nothing from the like of our DL or outside LBs. The only playmakers on defense are in the secondary, but if the QB has all day to throw, eventually somebody gets open. The Dolphin receivers were covered well today. They made some nice catches in tight coverage. The Jets were burned for 300 yards because Green had all day and because the front seven couldn't recognize a screen pass.

  20. And where would Abraham had fit in this defense? Countless times he had been tried out at OLB in the 3-4 w/ absolutely no success.

He'll be injured within the next 2 weeks anyway.
