"There are always going to be struggles when you have a young guy there," Taylor said. "There are struggles for veterans at times. I said it last year and I'll say it now; that he's one of those guys that is going to be a good player there for a long time." jason taylor in a newsday article, if one of the best pass rushers in the league thinks d'brick is ganna be good, it makes me feel a whole lot better about him, i know he has sucked, but i think once he develops his technique better he can be a pretty solid starter, not great like orlando pace, but good, what do u guys think?
Because of his size he is going to have use technique and intelligence to be a great left tackle. Right now he is average at best. What he needs to be able to to do is use his assets his footwork, his quickness his arms to negate the speed pass rushers. He's still getting beat around the edge to much which should never happen. I expect that a bull rusher will be able to move him out of the way but the spreed rushers should have a long day when they go up against him. Will see if he improves over the season.
Lets see if Taylor says the same thing after he plays him tomorrow. I agree with GS313 though, after looking at the game tapes again i think he has done pretty well, he has good speed, you can see a improvement from last year thanks to the extra weight, and i think in 2 years or so he will be one of the elite in the league.
Brick hasn't sucked, he's actually been above average thus far for the most part, it's the rest of the line that's been horrendous. He's made his fair share of mistakes, but overall he's been playing well. If he can put on some more weight and keep it and continue improving his technique at the rate he currently is, he'll be elite in a few years. Of course, none of that will matter if the rest of the line is terrible.
What does any smart player do but praise his opponents just before he squares off at them. What Taylor meant to say was: "I got a couple of sacks off of him last year and I expect the same this year. Is he any good? I don't know, who does? But I sure don't want to light a fire under him before the game tomorrow." That's football.
I miss the old days when Zack and Jason would cry to the press the week before the game about how much they hate losing to us. Maybe we'll get that for the second game.
When? You mean on a few plays in a few of the 18 total games the guy has played in his WHOLE NFL CAREER? Yeah, that's a good measure of a player's overall talent. Give your head a shake and learn something about the game.
this is when he has sucked..when mario williams schooled him all day, when richard seymour schooled him all day, when aaron schobel schooled him all day, i didnt see marcus mcneil get dominated as much as dbrick, for a #4 pick he has been a bit of a dissapointment, as for u saying i dont know anything about the game, u basing this on one sentence in which i refer to a player not living up the standard of being a 4th overall pick is retarted, we are here to discuss football, not insult intlligence, i am sure u are no einstein
he's allowed 12 sacks in 18 games, not the type of productivity u expect from a #4 overall, then again i thought dewayne would be a superstar by now so maybe i have to high of expectations
when was the last time u said wow d'brick is locking it down, he has bad leverage technique, he is suseptible to the bull rush, he's not great at the speed rush, which is where he should be dominant given his size and athletic abitlity, he is not a good run blocker, and he collapses into the pocket too much, so sucks, maybe not, but i would not say he is above average, not yet at least
I haven't been able to watch Ferguson a lot because I am a Fin fan. However, his athletic abilities are just too good to not be a good-great player at LT for you all. Yes, he might take a little time to get into form, but he's got all the athetlic abilties. I thought he did a pretty good job on Taylor last year. A much better job then LTs like Light, McKinnie, Clifton, J. Peters, Backus, Tait, and other good-great LTs. Don't worry D'Brick will get there. I wish we had him...haha
Don't worry Ihatethedolphins3 apparently has not either. That is the only way I can explain his complete lack of knowledge about offensive lines. I also love how unintelligent opinions on Brick include McNeil is awesome. orly............. He has stunk so far this season. Oh but why mention that and let it get in the way of a good old fashioned ill informed Brick bashing. For the love of god will someone that bashes Brick actually look at the tape of this past Sunday. Maybe then their idiotic opinion will change. Actually it probably will not because it so easy to make an ignorant point and think you are correct.
Sorry, but Brick has been average at best in his last 11 starts, with last sunday being a bit above average. The measuring stick is set pretty high for a #4 overall pick, and so far Brick looks like the next Robert Gallery to me. He will have a long productive career barring injury, but to live up to his draft status, the guy needs to weigh more than a TE. It's inconceivable to me that the guy couldn't use an NFL calibre off season conditioning plan to gain some damn weight. He got owned in the NE game, bad. Thats not acceptable when Richard Seymour is in street clothes.
I can see this is going to be a stand still argument to people that are so stubborn they refuse to watch the O-line. If you are referring to last year he was not good the last 4-5 games that is an indisputable fact. However, what you Brick bashers are refusing to do is actually watch the tape from the last two games. He has been better than the 4 other guys on the line. Maybe the symptoms of poor line play are borne from the illness that 3 of the guys on the line completely suck. Also the All-Pro rookie from last year that has all of the bashers salivating has been terrible so far this year. Hey maybe LT is a difficult position to learn. Oh and I really love the Gallery referrence. good stuff. Maybe you can use Tony Mandarich as well.
Some people just can't keep weight on no matter what they eat. One of my cousins is 51 now and still thin as a rail. He'll clear the table on you at a big meal and doesn't gain anything. It's just genetic. A great-grandfather of mine was the same way and died at 6'1" 140 lbs at 89. Now couple that with D'Brick's notorious habit of not clearing his plate at a meal and we might have a long-term problem. It was still the only reasonable choice to make on #4, assuming we could not find a good offer to trade down, but we might wind up regretting it anyway. Half of all first round picks bust.
ok first off i didnt't start this thread to bash brick, the name of this thread is hope for brick, hope that he will become a really good lt, which i strongly believe he is not yet, yes he did ok vs the ravens, but not great, if u can remember things an oline men f'ed up he is not doing great, i am not claiming to be the know all end all expert on o-lines but i have watched enough football to know that when the same player is getting into our backfield on the same side of the line, its probably got something to do with the individiual, not to say our oline is perfect...i understand they are far from it, an LT doesn't get credit when they go a play without allowing a sack, but they get recognized when they do, is it fair? no, is it telling? maybe in addition i never said brick sucks, i said he has sucked at times, which i think we can all agree on
