Look, like everyone else I am concerned at his seeming lack of progress and improvement. There were concerns before the draft that he was maxxed out in size and could not handle big DE's. He's been a dissapointment, a major one so far. I'm not writing him off yet, but if you think back we passed on Reggie Bush for him (I am glad we did, I wasn't a Bush guy)...and we also could have had some other guys. At the time I was all for trading down, since I wasn't convinced about D'Brick. No, I didn't want AJ Hawk of Matt Leinart either - the guy I wanted was the #12 overall pick who we played last week - Haloti Ngata - who went to Baltimore. 6-5 335 NT who could move. I've been unhappy with the NT play for the Jets for a long time, and he'd have been a real difference maker, and we probably could have traded down to get him. Either way, Hawk would have been a better pick in retrospect, or or Culter. If we had trade down, Kameron Wimbley was taken at #13 by Cleveland and Manny Lawson was also on the board - taken at #22 by SF. There's two possible DE pass rushers - something we still lack. Darryn Colledge who is starting at T for the Packers went #47 in the 2nd round, and Marcus McNeil who is a pro bowler at RT went #50 to SD. So far the pick of D'Brick is dissapointing to say the least...
D'Brick is and always has been a project. Until he can keep his weight up, he will be no better than average. This was known when we picked him, I don't know why so many people forget this. On top of that, OT in the NFL has one of the highest learning curves of any position (behind the QB, and that may be about it). I'll personally let him pass this season through to the end of next season. If he hasn't made significant strides by then, I'll join the bandwagon. Until then, however, I'm going to be patient.
He hasn't been the Orland Pace we were hoping for, but 18 games into his career we can't be calling for his head. If he sucks next year then he's a bust. He still needs to add weight to handle the bullrush of someone coming off the end. I think he's too nice to play the game, but that can be changed. Also, its pointless to go back into the 06 draft and look at what should have happened. We can all pick perfect drafts 2 years after they were completed. Why didn't we get Tom Brady in the 6th round instead of Chad in the 2000 draft? See its easy. As fast as the NFL is, patience is still of the essence.
Yea, patience is key on this one. Unless you end up with a stud pick that pans out, you could always go back an state moves you would have made for player who have currently panned out. There were questions about Ngata on draft day too, he has just answered them better. D'Brick may not be dominant ever, but as long as he can be consistently solid on the left side, I will take it.
I'm not so much concerned that he's had trouble with the big guys, he got owned by Aaron Schobel last year and Schobel is a very small defensive end. The guys that he's supposed to handle with ease are the 250-260 lb defensive ends that try to use quickness and acceleration to spin around a bigger, thicker tackle. D'Brick is supposed to be just like their big brother, same body shape and quickness but tall as hell and able to shut them down. So far he has gotten burned by them a lot. That's what makes me nervous, because I know he can't handle the big 3-4 ends well.
2 games but the start of year 2 and he's not getting better. That is a concern. Consistent and solid on the LT side is not enough for the #4 overall!
Almost every QB picked in the top of the first round is given a learning curve and needs time develop. It's no different with Brick, or almost any other player picked in the top of the first round. Potential's the word here, and with his footwork and frame, he's got a lot of it. He's just gotta harness it. If you draft a QB at #4, do you expect him to be effective right off the bat? No. It's the same deal with Brick.
no, but you expect him to show that he has the potential to be dominant and a potential Pro Bowler - and D'Brick has not -
Ive said it before, and I will say it again. If you are going to say D'Brick = D'Bust, then you better say DeWayne = DeBust.
It is another assinine pointless thread in the thousands of Dbust threads. I will do a question and answer for you . I will take the liberty to answer for you: 1.) Did you watch the game Sunday? A: Yes 2.) Did you pay particular attention to the Oline? A: No 3.) How can you be qualified to post about Brick? A: I am not 4.) Then why would you post about Brick being a bust? A: Because if the QB was sacked 9 times in 2 games he must suck 5.) Well what about the 4 other guys on the line how did they look? A: Look all I know is Brick sucks he should be able to cover for all 4 after all he was drafted 4th overall. 6.) So you mean to tell me, the fact that the guy next to him, Adrien Clark, who absolutely sucks, has no bearing on his play? A: I answered this already look Brick=Dbust. See answer to # 5 7.) So you did not think he had a good game and relatively speaking was their best lineman by far on Sunday? A: See answer to question #5. There you have it can we now move onto other topics or at least give some good insite into Brick. Brick= Dbust is a load of bullshit. Let him play on an established line and have him be the weak link then I will write him off. Until then, he was just as good if not better than Mangold was on Sunday. Correct me if I am wrong but I saw a couple of plays where his (Mangold's) man shot through the gap and busted a run play and or got a sack. However, you will not see me make a Mangold=Manbust thread. Once again, these are young players that have to compensate for a load of shit we like to call the other 3 guys on the O-line!
When you are losing games everything gets exaggerated. Kind of like when you are winning games. Everyone is better than they appear.
It would be nice if every top 5 pick in the history of the NFL draft turned out to be a PBer and utterly dominant. Its just not realistic.
Right, I agree and Robertson is a bust too. Both our latest high first round picks are. Not that I blame Robertson so much. He was steadily improving in the 4-3 but he is so undersized and overmatched in the 3-4 he will never be any good.
You missed question #8: How did you come up with this idea? I saw a poll on the topic from HacketStilSuxx.
As far as I know, the Saints weren't offering the #2 pick for the #4 pick, so your statement that the Jets passed on Bush is, at best, inaccurate. I let someone else make the obligatory hingsight / cherry picking the best guy from each round a year later comment.
