Well its about time. Cant wait to hear from Jeaux. Raiders agreed to a six-year, $61 million contract with QB JaMarcus Russell, the No. 2 overall pick. The deal includes $32 million guaranteed. After missing training camp and the preseason, it's extremely unlikely that Russell will get starts before midseason. He simply is not ready to play. But if the Raiders keep losing to teams like the Lions, owner Al Davis will undoubtedly push hard for a late-season switch to the decorated rookie. Sep. 10 - 9:21 pm et
From Fox News Jay Glazer FOXSports.com, Updated 15 minutes ago STORY TOOLS: print send blog RSS LIKE THIS STORY? After lengthy negotiations, No.1 pick JaMarcus Russell and the Oakland Raiders have finally agreed to a deal, sources have told FOXSports.com. The six-year contract agreed to Monday night is worth $61 million, including $32 million guaranteed. The Lions gave No. 2 pick Calvin Johnson $27.2 million in guarantees this year and top pick Mario Williams got $26.5 million in guaranteed money a year ago from the Texans. The two sides negotiated on Friday and Saturday, while breaking Sunday for Oakland's season opener, with each party being confident they could get a deal done to have him practice by Wednesday. Amazingly, the same numbers Russell signed for would have gotten a deal done in April when Oakland selected the quarterback with the top pick and would have avoided the lengthy holdout. However, at that point the Raiders said cash flow problems stemming from stadium issues would prevent the team from giving Russell the money he wanted. In the end, Oakland came through with the cash. Russell will join the team as the No. 3 quarterback behind Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper. McCown was 30-for-40 for 313 yards and two touchdowns in the 36-21 loss to the Detroit Lions. He also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the closing minutes with the Raiders trailing by eight points. advertisement STORY TOOLS: print send blog RSS LIKE THIS STORY? The sticky negotiation forced Russell to take a hard line stance, while forcing the Raiders to figure out who their primary negotiator would be. Several chefs seemed to be in the kitchen during negotiations. The last top pick to miss a game was Bo Jackson, who sat out the entire 1986 season after being drafted first overall by Tampa Bay. Jackson chose to play baseball instead, and was eventually drafted a year later in the seventh round by the Raiders. The last first-round pick not to be signed by the season opener was offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie, who missed the first eight games in 2002 after being selected with the seventh overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings. The former LSU quarterback compiled a 25-4 mark as a starter in college. He completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns.
It's about time. I think he will be starting at some point this season, as early as possible. He obviously has to prepare, but if the Raiders keep playing the way they did against the Lions, then you'll see Jamarcus early on.
Despite the game that McNown had, he supposedly injured his hand towards the end of the game. Also by not starting Culpepper, you can see what the Raiders really feel about him. I say Russell is the starter halfway through the season since it will at least keep The Nation interested.
Yes, he did. He got sacked by Kalimba Edwards and fumbled the ball on the final play of the game. Moments later, when he would have been shaking his former teammates' hands, he was cringing in pain.
First article has him listed as the #2 pick- which further evidences my belief that sports writers are THE most accurate of ALL writers.
Simple fact is Culpepper dosen't know the full playbook(came in real late) and thats the reason MCCown got the start. McCown didn't play bad against Detriot, but I think Culpepper stronger arm might have made the diffrence. McCown was a little late with some of his throws, and that will hurt you when your arm isn't the strongest. Culpepper should be the starter for most of this season.
Were going to find out real soon , whose QB situation in alot better shape raiders or Jets. D Culpepper versus Kellen Clemens.
Jets than are a community college team. Jets possible could have a top three pick in next year draft.
you guys havent had a better season than us since you showed up to the Super Bowl and grabbed your ankles for the Bucs
Hahahaha:rofl: Righhhhht:up: Well even if we do have a top 3, you guys will probably have the #1 and fail to sign him before the season starts again:smile:
And whats the BIG accomplishment. Are you any closer to a superbowl. Seriously look at your pieces and look at my pieces. Whose future looks alot brighter, and has better chance to reach a superbowl sooner.
Hmmm...Healthy, young, and talented vs. old, slow, and mentally challenged. C-Pep is a moron. Everyone here in Orlando knows that. The boy can barely read.
So you will have to go 8-7 the rest of the way to reach that. Looking at the Raiders schedule here's what I see as likely games they will lose: @ Denver @ San Diego @ Tennessee Chicago Denver @ Green Bay Indy @ Jacksonville San Diego So there are 9 games, meaning they will have to win all of their winnable games at win at least two of these. I just don't see it happening man
Aren't the Raiders 0-1? I don't see 8 wins. You don't win 8 games with a McCown on your team. Culpepper is mediocre at best now - did you not watch him on the Dolphins? Uh oh guys! Culpepper made a nice throw in the pre-season, against another teams 3rd stringers! - The Raiders are most definitely going to be a .500 team! They are basically the same team they were last year...with a new coach. No new offensive weapons, and rookie QB that JUST signed, and the main reason he was drafted so high was because of his ARM STRENGTH. Ryan Leaf and Kyle Boller are both in the arm strength Hall of Fame. They've had stellar careers...only if you replace the word stellar with busted. Maybe in a few years buddy, but the Raiders aren't even close to being a good team, a decent team. Get ready for the Top 5 again. Hey at least you don't have to wait 4 or 5 hours for your team to make a pick. THEY LOST TO THE LIONS! Arguably the SECOND worst team in the NFL - ranked right behind your boys.
By the tone of some of these posts you'd think the Jets won 38-14 this week. And let's not hear too much about the level of competition, I don't remember a lot of sympathy when the Raiders opened against the Chargers and at Baltimore last year. As one of your old coaches used to say, "you are what your record says you are." You're 0-1, just like the Raiders.
