I loved that, why can't he open games like that. He was pissed and he wasn't worried about throwing an INT. That in a nutshell is my problem with Chad. It really doesn't bother me that he doesn't have a good arm it's that he is so controlled and afraid of his own arm that drives me crazy. Where is that intensity all the time?
A post like this makes me know that there are good fans and those that understand that these players are real people and have lives and are not robots. I really like Chad, I think he is a great leader a great person and a great guy to build team chemistry with. That being said there certainly are physical limitations to his game. Is it unfortunate? Yes because with his heart he deserves to win and be on a winning team. I was working (in Idaho) so I didn't see any part of the game other than lowlites but anybody booing this guy is not a fan, you are a horrible, bitter asshole and should find more productive things with your time. Chad despite the limitations has done nothing but scarifice both his body and salary (yes maybe to avoid being cut) only to help the Jets become a winning franchise.
What has Chad won so far? This is a fair question I think. His record is above .500 but what has he WON??? He's a sentimental favorite among Jet fan that like him. He's damned near an Icon for all optimistic Jet Fans but what has he WON? Put the koolaid down for a minute and think about it... Why do teams play the game? What is the goal here? Is simply winning more often than losing the be all/end all? Why do they even bother having playoff games? If being above .500 is the only measuring stick, then the NFL needs to stop wasting our time with such efforts as homefield advantage, Playoff games and by all means, spare us the Super Bowl theatrics. The SB doesn't mean squat. Championships don't mean anything. All you have to do is be above .500. All you have to accomplish is winning more games than you lose. All you have to be is mediocre. All you have to do is convince your fanbase that as long as you win more often than you lose, nothing else matters.
Couple of points – 1) This is no time to rip Chad like him or not 2) I’m glad Chad sunshiners are able to conclusively conclude that a strong arm is worthless in the NFL by bringing up the likes of Culpepper, Rex Grossman, Frank Failure, Ryan Leaf (insert any other failed quarterback here). Sometimes I forget that three quarters of Peyton and Bradys game are three yard dumps to the check down. I forgot that Favre and Marino seldom saw it necessary to throw the ball more than eleven yards twice a quarter in their heydays 3) The fact that Chad may win 3 out of every 4 starts really means nothing if he only has four starts 4) It is (JMHO) one of the quarterbacks most fundamental responsibilities to stay uninjured; call it bad luck, pussidous, freak accidents or whatever you want; Chad has completely FAILED in his obligation to the team of staying healthy.

The Ravens won one with Trent Dilfer as their starter, the Bucs with Brad Johnson, the Bears made one just last year with REX GROSSMAN. Granted, all three of those teams had far better defenses than the Jets do now, but their QBs were NOT the problems. Of the current starting 2007 QBs, only 4 have won Superbowls--Brady, Manning, Favre, & Roethlisberger. 4. How would you like to have Carson Palmer or Drew Brees as our QB? Neither have even made a superbowl. So yes, with the right pieces around him, Chad can get us there. Maybe it's not Chad, maybe its the rest of the team.
That's where I respectfully disagree. I'm perfectly fine with the 10-15 yard cross/out routes, especially because that's when it's easiest for the recievers to use their speed to get open, and Coles and Cotchery catch almost everything. Also, Chad has tried to stretched the field from time-to-time, but yesterday he had no time to throw. Most of the reason Brady was dominating us down the field was because he had ALL DAY to throw, and our corners couldn't (understandably) stick to the Pats WRs.
Also, I would like to throw this question out there: If we can win during the regular season without throwing the deep ball, why wouldn't we be able to do that during the playoffs? Just play the JETS game and we'll be fine.
Things change and are magnified in the playoffs. Its a entirely different season and the level of play is elevated far beyond what is experienced during the regular season. Your level of competition is much high as is the quality of your opponent. What works in the regular season is no indicator of what might be successful in the playoffs..
I understand your frustration but since Chad has been starting QB of the Jets a very select group of QB's have won the SB 2002- Tom Brady 2003- Brad Johnson 2004- Tom Brady 2005- Tom Brady 2006- Ben Rothlisberger 2006 - Peyton Manning That's 4 whole QBs that have won SBs since 02 and 2 of them won because of their defense.
No reason for Herm comparisons now.. Play nice!! :rofl: I never said Chad was the problem, I'm asking what exactly has Chad WON? His body of work pretty much says mediocre. His won/loss record is above mediocre but not by alot. He's won 1 divisional championship, 0 AFC Title game appearances. Without those, listing SB's would be meaningless. You ask would I rather have Carlson Palmer or Drew Brees? Yes I would. Why? Because I already know what Chad brings to the table. His intangibles work both for AND against him. Again I ask... What has Chad won besides the hearts and minds of diehard Jet Fans????
This is why I have trouble believing people were cheering for the Chad injury. Look at the tremendous amount of support Chad gets on these boards. If the boards are representative of the fan base at large, then the majority of fans back Chad up, and probably have no faith in KC. I think people that don't like Chad are in the minority.
Letter to Olbermann Long time reader (as in a few years), first time poster (not sure why I waited this long) -- I am from the DC area. I had tickets to the JETS-pats game this past weekend. I totally disagree with the media's interpretation of JETS fans' cheers re: Pennington's injury. We sent the following letter to Mr. Olbermann this evening: Dear Mr. Olbermann, As a loyal Jets fan, I was absolutely disgusted at your "Worst in the NFL" segment on Sunday, September 9, 2007. I was at the Jets/Patriots game on Sept. 9 at the Meadowlands and I, for one, did not hear anyone around me cheer or celebrate Chad Pennington injuring his ankle. What I did hear were many people express sincere concern for our fallen quarterback and applause when he stood up and hopped off the field. NY Jets fans respect and care for Chad Pennington. Every time he was sacked on Sunday, we were all relieved when he stood back up and shook it off because of the injury-wrought career that he has had in the NFL. He is a great quarterback and a great person. Jets fans stand behind Chad Pennington and his abilities. On your program, you were right about one thing: As Kellen Clemens entered the field, we all cheered. We cheered in support of a young quarterback thrust into a game at a moments notice. We cheered because our team was down and the players were losing momentum. We cheered because we love our NY Jets. How dare you lump the sum total of seventy-eight thousand fans into the same category. If there were a few people cheering at Chad Pennington's injury, then fine. But those few people do not characterize the spirit and devotion of all Jets fans. In criticizing the Jets fans present at the Meadowlands on Sunday, you insulted many fireman, police officers, military men, and public servants present. That's definitely true. I do feel, though, that if the West Coast type offense Schoettenheimer runs can be successful during the season, it can also be so during the playoffs.
you cant be a winner if you're not on the field and noodle arm has played a full season ONCE in his 5 years as a starter.
whatever if it turns out that CP is too hurt to play the bashers will get to see what their "savior" is all about. if he goes anything less than 10-6 we'll get the chance to bash them.
