here here. i agree. as bad as the spike was, it really set this franchise in a new direction. we have owned the fish since and gave them their payback with the monday night miracle.
That fake spike play is the most overrated play in the history of the Jets. Marino brought the Dolphins down the field in a breeze. Had first and goal at the 2. No way the Jets were stopping them. They were scoring easy no matter what they did.
Actually that's a good point. They had a tying FG in the bag no matter what happened. What makes it more memorable is the way it happened and the fact that it was Marino vs the Jets in a game for first place. Had Jim Harbaugh done it for Indy vs Cleveland, nobody would probably remember it.
Oh absolutely. All true. It's just I remember going nuts at the end of that game that Miami went down the field so easy and that fake spike play always covered up the fact that Miami just cruised down the field at will.
you mods can sensor this but its the truth..... was getting the juiciest hummer when it occurred....nearly knocked out the girls teeth while almost decapitating myself ah the memories.... jil
Drove down to the game with 3 Dolphins fans. We were looking to get tickets in the parking lot, but came up empty. Hung around for a quarter or so, then headed home. Listened to it on the radio on the drive home. I was feeling pretty good about a 24-6 lead, but somehow wasn't really comfortable with the lead. Then the roof caved in, and I had to take a lot of abuse the rest of the way home.
one of the first Jets games I ever watched and will never forget it...eeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
What most people forget is that we got to about midfield in the waning seconds, Esiason threw a hailmary to the back of the endzone and johnny mitchell had it go through his hands.
for what its worth -- the two plays that will always stay with me are the blair thomas fumble and the mark gastineau roughing the passer playoff game (and also the bill simpson int). I Suppose for pure "insult" value -- the fake spike wins it, though.
