Broncos trade Warren to Raiders Defensive tackle didn't fit into Denver's new defense Posted: Monday August 20, 2007 11:42AM; Updated: Monday August 20, 2007 11:53AM http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...7/08/20/bc.fbn.broncos.warrentr.ap/index.html ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- The Denver Broncos found a surprising trade partner to unload defensive tackle Gerard Warren -- the rival Oakland Raiders. The Broncos shipped Warren to the Raiders on Monday for an undisclosed 2008 draft pick. Just one year ago, Warren was deemed the Broncos' best defensive linemen as evidenced by the six-year, $36 million contract he signed before injuries to both big toes led to an unproductive 2006 season. This year, he didn't fit in the system put in place by the new defensive boss Jim Bates, which requires large interior linemen who hold the point of attack rather than penetrate. Warren (6-foot-4, 325 pounds) is a seventh-year pro who spent the past two seasons in Denver after he was acquired in a trade with Cleveland in 2005. The Browns made him the third overall pick in the 2001 draft out of Florida. Warren had 51 tackles and 21/2 sacks last season and never regained his strength and stamina after a toe injury in training camp hobbled him all year. The Broncos left him behind when they opened the exhibition season at San Francisco and again when they spent a week in Dallas practicing with the Cowboys before their preseason game Saturday night. There was some speculation, however, that the Broncos might ditch their plan to trade or release him after the defense played so poorly in San Francisco and Dallas, where starting defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban was lost for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon. Washington and Indianapolis were interested in Warren but might have been hoping for his release so they could negotiate their own deal and not compensate the Broncos. Warren, who cemented his nickname "Big Money" with his contract extension last summer, actually earned about $6.5 million of that $36 million deal. He received $2 million from the Broncos this year in roster and workout bonuses. His salary for the upcoming season is a little less than $600,000.
KSK prediction for Oakland looking more reasonable every day: 0-13-3 (Defense pitches three shutouts. Offense doesn't score all season.)
Raiders are going to score alot of points this year. In fact they will be one of the better redzone scoring teams. They have two stud Tes In Zach Miller and John madsen. Now throw in Wr Mike Williams(who will make his biggest mark in red zone) Has shown uncanny abilty to shield Dbs away from the ball, with his body. Raiders will be alot more effective running the ball as they have two physical FBS leading the way in Justin Griffith and Oren ONeal. Raiders stretch and cut blocking scheme plays well with thwe type of running backs raiders have.
No. No they won't. You know how I know they won't? Because, Jeauxseph, if there's one constant in this world it's that you'll be woefully and tragically wrong on all things Raider. I'd say that we should save and revisit this post but, really, what's the point? You're now like one of those WWII Japanese soldiers stuck in the caves of some Pacific Island, still fighting the war that's been long since lost. This used to be so much more fun. I think even NJ has given up.
Save this thread. Please. Did you hear Bill parcells on Monday night countdown talking about the raiders offense . He sounds like he been drinking the raiders koolaid.(not the same stuff Joe Willie Namath did- Hiccup namath: " Iwant to kiss you Susie. Susie: " BUt Joe Im a lesbian." namath: I don't care I still want to kiss you. Getting back to subject. Parcells said D culpepper has good chance to be come back player of the year . Also The Raiders have a lot of pieces. "I think they are a lot further along than most people think right now. . ." ESPN - Bill Parcells. 8/20/07
In '93 the Broncos traded Gaston Green to the Raiders for a 3rd round pick. It doesn't happen very often!
You had to call me out, didn't you my friend? For the record, I'm very optimistic, but I don't think anyone is in Joe's league when it comes to optimism. Am I predicting playoff glory, etc. this year? No. But I do think they look like an actual 2007 NFL offense right now, the coaching is light years ahead of this time last year. I think they'll surprise some people, perhaps even you!
By the way Joseph...You haven't yet mentioned that Warren is the next John Randle... Please enlighten us.
"Much further along than most people think" could mean they've just discovered fire and the forward pass.
I don't know how anyone can make a John randle comparison to gerard warren(games and bodies are totally diffrent). No hopefully what gerard warren is- the 6'4 330 pounder run stuffer, to team up with the 6'7 335 pound terdel Sands in the Raiders middle of their defense. . Let the 6'6 300 Tom Kelly move to RDE on the run downs. Really shore up their run defense. Watch last year tape of jets/'Raiders. It was no accident Jets ran to the side opposite of where ever Tom kelly line up. Hes a beast at DE. After you stop the run, you bring in your passrusherLDE D Burgess DT Tom kelly DT W Sapp and RDE Q Moses. Than your get the ball back in your playmakers hands on offense.
