We were spoiled by last year's good start to the Mangini era. Now after looking again at last night's game is it time to replace Chad? We aren't winning any Super Bowl's with his arm strength that's for sure. Minnesota's DB's were jumping the short routes that are Chad's bread and butter. Clemens arm is stronger but his ability to read thge defense and make the right throw are still in doubt. Will Chad be a better solution and gets us to a 9-7 or 8-8 year? On the other hand could Clemens be the man to lead us to a Super Bowl? PLaying Clemens will be a step back in terms of wins for the 2007 season.A bad season in terms of wins isn't out of the question if Clemens starts. However it could pay us back 10x over if he develops in to the QB that some NFL "experts" predicted that he could become. It's a decision that Mangini and Tannenbaum need to rethink. The plan was 2008 to be the year that Clemens takes charge but the time has come for Chad to step aside and help this team with his mind and not his noodle arm.

you have opened the door to anoher "real jet fans dont root against the team" argument. I personally, if you guaranteed me it would be the end of chad, would sign up for a 6-10. whats another year without a superbowl. sick of the chad

well, i don't want to jump the gun with noodle arm b/c of a preseason game, but my thinking is, he's not going to lead the jet's to the bowl. he's just too limited in what his arm can do and the top tier teams are keened in to it.

if we look around the afc, there are a lot of top notch qb's this jet's team has to compete against(manning, brady, palmer, rothlisberger, rivers, cutler, and even young looks to be a threat if they get him some offensive players). those are just the qb's off the top of my head i could think of, just for the jets to get past to make the superbowl. these teams with thier franchise qb's are going to make it very tough for the jet's to compete with, and get past to make it to the big game. penny can get this team to be a better than average record, but he has never been able to lift this team into the top echelon of the league and i doubt he ever will.

i think it's time to find out if the jet's have their qb of the future to compete with the other's(above). without a franchise qb, the afc is a bitch!!!!

The Vikings Have an impressive D-line which dominated our little o-line that could'nt. End of story. Clemons did not look great either.

The arguement isnt whether Clemens is good enough at this point though. I have no idea what he has.

With that said, Im at a point where I just cant keep watching this guy year in and year out. His limitations will always be one team...one playoff game...one team that can shut him down completely.

Chad Pennington would need an awesome running game and a historically great defense to be the QB of a team that wins the superbowl.

He will never carry a team on his back to a superbowl.

If the Jets had that type of defense or were close...and had a great running game...sure..let him qb over Clemens...but they dont. They are not close either..so let the kid play.

Chad is More than adequate to lead a team to the Big Game , far less Qbs have.
I love to see how people overreact to one preseason game , last nights performance is one of the reasons they have preseason games.
Without a running game / OL (which was horrendous) - QBs smarts and decision making are going to be way more important than arm strength.

Clemens will never be the Jets QB of the future and will never be the QB that Chad was/is/and still going to be. Chads got another 4 good years or so in him and we need to focus on both lines , defense and running game - if we want to progress- The Jets passing game as is along with the Special Teams are the only Strengths we have.

It's pre-season...wow, Chad threw 2 INTs that were returned for touchdowns. I was pissed off at first, but then I realized that the game didn't matter at all. It's pretty much like he threw those 2 picks in a practice scrimmage. Who cares?

If he starts doing that against teams in the REGULAR SEASON, then we can all support the Kellen Clemens Era in New York.

Where have you've been the last 4 years? Chad may be one of the smarter QB's in the game but his arm strength is below average and this was before his 2 shoulder surgeries.Clemens was a 2nd rd pick. How can you say he won't be a good QB. According to several NFL people's draft boards he was rated a top QB prospect. Chad's arm is a liability past 15 yds the 15-20 yd out pattern is a thing of the past for him after the last surgery. I was a big Chad guy but after 2 surgeries and last night's performance it's time to see if Clemens is the answer or do we look twoards the 2008 draft for the Jets future QB.

I'm gonna give it atleast til the next preseason game, where Chad plays into the 3rd before i even question him at all. Even after that,it's still preseason. I'm sure if we are better off with Clemens,Mangini is smart enough to put him in. Until then........

of everything Chad has done in his time in the league, you want to throw him under the bus for the shit game he had last night, where both INTs had nothing to do with arm strength? Are you fucking serious? That's a goddamn joke man...

You think you're in with Mangini and Tannenbaum? You know the year they want Clemens to take over eh....

This is an interesting take. The current regime passed on Cutler and Leinart before they even had a clue that Chad could play and choose Clemens with a second round pick and you think they don't have plans for him to be the quarterback of the future? Teams don't waste 2nd round picks on back up QB's when they have a lot of other needs. If Clemens continues to outplay Chad the Jets will have a great opportunity to unload his bonus before TC next year and use the money to fill holes on both lines.

This team is rebuilding and Clemens was drafted as a foundation part in that rebuild. He may not be the guy but he was drafted to be that guy.

Jtuds - Last night's game left a bad taste in everyone's mouth that's all...the key is it's only pre-season. Chad played like it was pre-season. Do you remember a 33-0 loss to the Ravens in a pre-season game a while back? Probably not, but it happened. The year? 1998. Mangini will have them ready for the season opener. Maybe they'll beat NE, maybe they won't but they won't look this bad when it counts.........

It looks like maybe we should have traded down a few spots for him.

This is exactly how I feel. Great post.

I'm sick and tired of not having a QB that can make all the throws. Sick and tired. Sooo sick and tired.

How can this oline argument stand up when we had 167 rushing yards (19 more than vikes) 181 passing yards (vs 72 for vikes) controlled the clock 34.37 vs 25.23 for vikes. Now int's. both of Chads were just bad plays on behalf of CP. KC was because of Stucky not catching the ball in his hands. I can't understand those arguing that we should put talent around CP. Why does KC put up points with the same talent/team on the field. Same o-line, receivers, less Jones at running back. Does KC's 31 for 22 for 230 yrds and 4 TD and 1 int. mean anything? Chad better watch his back before he suffers from a bledso-clot.

Chad replaced Testaverde in his 3rd year. Chad floated that 2nd pass in to the flat like a feather.. Clemens wasn't brought in to carry Chad's Jock. He was brought in to win games. As Mangini has stated the best player will play. Saturday's game will be interesting to watch both Chad's and Kellen's performances.

This offense is built around Mr. James Pennington, how much are you willing to sacrifice?

I never Stated that I didnt think the Team might think he is the Future , I saw Clemens play at Oregon and he definately has NFL abilities , My Post is my own personal gut feeling that Clemens will neve be a succesful starter - I have been both right and wrong in the past.

You say if Clemens continue to outplay Chad , but the truth is Clemens has never outplayed Chad yet.
