so are you guys proud of the team for fighting back or dissapointed in them for sleeping through the first 3 months?

They are a lock to at least get the WC..

I think it was all the injuries more then anything else that hurt them the first two months of the season (it wasn't 3). Now they are healthy and playing up to their potential on most occasions (not last night). I'm not sure they are a lock for anything. Ask me after the next 20 games.

The Yanks are way too talented a team for injuries to be an excuse, same goes for the Mets as well(who have had more injuries)

More injuries? Did they have 4 of their 5 starters on the DL? Did they have their left and center fielders on the DL at the same time? Did they lose their first baseman for 2 months? I don't think the Mets can even be talked about in the same sentence.

I don't think we can expect a response from him to that one.

The Mets lost their number 1 pitcher (Martinez) for the entire year. They lost their second baseman (Valentine) for the entire year. Every outfielder on the team (Beltran, Green, Alou, Chavez) has been on the DL, plus their top two minor league replacements (Milledge and Gomez). They have lost their starting catcher (LoDuca) - two different times to injury, although he was not DLd.

Since June 1st (58 games) they have played the following teams: Boston (3), Chicago AL (7), Pittsburgh (3), Arizona (3), New York NL (3), San Fransisco (3), Baltimore (7), Oakland (3), Minnesota (4), Los Angeles of Anaheim (3), Tampa Bay (8), Toronto (7), and Kansas City (7). Those teams have a combined W% of .493. However, only a total of 12 of those game were against Boston, Anaheim, New York, and Arizona who are the only teams on that list who are significantly over .500. That means that 79% of those games were played against teams with a combined W% of .455.

So yes, the Yankees have played well since June 1st, but the quality of opponents has been pretty bad overall.

With only 17 of 30 teams in baseball with a winning record (9 in the NL), and two of them just barely over .500, it's hard to find good teams to play.

So what you're telling me is that pretty much the league has a combined W% of .500 and that about half the teams are above .500 and the other half are below? In other news, the sun makes the temperature go up.

They're about to find them. Coming up they're about to play 24 of their final 48 games against Cleveland, Detroit, Anaheim, Boston, and Seattle, who are a combined 324-241 (.573). Here's where they could very well start to fall back again.

What I'm telling you is that it only makes sense that the Yankees played half their series against teams with losing records and half against teams with winning records.

Where they stand apart from everybody else is that they won the majority of those games against both.

What I just showed you is that they only played 21% of their last 58 where they have played well against teams that are at least 5 games over .500. That's only 12 games out of 58 against legitimate competition.

I guess that must mean the red Sox only play the best teams.Or maybe the Sox had a soft schedule before the break.

Anybody with a small amount of baseball knowledge knew the Yanks would get back into it. I've been saying all along while teams like Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota beat up on the each other in their own division the Yankess would get to beat up on Baltimore, Toronto and the should be retracted Devil Rays 19 times a year.

Lets be honest the last month and a half has been a walk in the park for you guys. Going back to you guys getting swept by Colorado which ended on June 21st the Yankees have played 47 games, only 14 of those games were against teams over .500. 7 of those 14 games have been against Toronto who is only 1 game over .500. So in theory 7 of the Yankees last 47 games have been against teams with a good record. In those 47 games the teams you have played are a combined 42 games under .500. If you take out the Angels who they played before the AS Break the Yankees have not played a team 3 games better than .500 since June 21st.

We'll find out in the next 3 weeks if the Yankees are legit when 17 of their next 20 are against teams in the playoff hunt. Throw the Baltimore series and you'll find out a whole lot about your club.

You know what really cracks me up about the pundits pointing to the Yankees "weak" schedule?

These same guys will be defending the Jets when somebody says the same thing.

I know it is apples and oranges, but it is still amusing.

There is a huge difference, you don't play 162 games in the NFL. One loss (like the game against Cleveland last year ) could force you to miss the playoffs. The Jets don't get to play 19 games against the Dolphins and the Bills. And I hae never defended when people say they have or had a weak schedule. The schedule in the NFL is made years in advance where in baseball you play everyteam at least 7 times even jokes of franchises like KC, Baltimore, Tampa Bay and Texas.
