It looks like the Mets cannot beat the Braves this year. When Minaya realizes that stocking up on Old Latin ballplayers isn't the way to a championship, perhaps the Mets will stand a chance to compete on a yearly basis. They didn't win it last year. They won't be in it this year. Sorry for the doom and gloom but it is what it is. The Mets aren't the juggernauts the NY Media machine made them out to be.
The only time you come in these threads is when the Mets play the Braves to peddle some nonsense about the Braves being in the Mets heads or how they are an unstoppable baseball juggernaut and it's all Omar's fault. No, the Mets don't match up well against the Braves. The Braves lineup is better at every position(although you'd have to give the Mets SS with Renteria out). Obviously they're losing to somebody though as the Mets are still ahead of them as bad as they've played them all year long. Luckily they don't have to beat the Braves to make the playoffs(not getting swept would help, though)
don't agree at all. If that were true, they'd be running away with the division. without beltran and with the braves getting teixeira, they do have a better lineup. But it's not that they're better across the board. what is interesting is that the two top teams in the NL in runs are... The Phillies and the Braves.
easley walks to load the bases. that's big I hate when a guy is used for nothing because of the whole matchup thing. gotay brought in to pinch hit just to draw mahay.
The reason the Braves aren't running away with the division is because of the Mets excellent pitching. I'll admit that I mostly used the position by position example for effect, since it's not a great way of judging the lineup's strenght. I mean the Mets still have fine players at positions where the Braves are just stronger, like 3b and ss. And I guess you could call CF a wash since both Jones and Beltran are having shitty years but other then that where do the Mets have the edge on the Braves?
