They were written off back on July 3rd.

Anyone care to amend their predictions? You get a second chance. Like the guy who keeps telling us this will be the worst year ever for hurricanes.

Let's keep the karma-killing to a minimum, please. Way too early to gloat.

I am not gloating. I contended that there was alot of baseball left and the Yankees would be back in it by mid-August. I was ridiculed for a simple comparison to the 78 Yankees. The Bronx is burning.

I had the same arguments as you. Too much was based on what happened in past years and too little on the parity in baseball this year. Flat out, there are no great teams this year. The WC could actually be won with less then 90 wins the way things are going now. In fact some divisions will most likely be won without 95 wins..maybe not even 90.

I'd say the last few weeks have been something ridiculous.

As noted on Fire Joe Morgan:

"Their team OPS since the ASB is .953. Team OPS, friends. The entire team is hitting like Albert Pujols. A poster on SoSH recently pointed out that they went through a 2-week run of offensive prowess not equaled since like 1961."

I mean, they can't keep that up forever, can they?

when your a team with talent that the yankees have it can happen, like lets say something you have seen with your own eyes the 98 yankees, they always didnt explode like the yankees of late, but thay won the games, the yankees now can do the same, just with more firepower and if they are not winning by 7 runs they can beat you by one run, like they have shown as of late.

the yankees have always been real they just started out bad, it happens, you cant win the division 20 years in a row your going to have to settle for the wild card once in a while.

No, of course not but you don't have to win every game by 10 runs either. Their pitching is just improved which will help when the offense goes cold.

teams do go cold but i think they used that part up for almost the whole part of the first half they were cold. and injured, so they are about to use up the heat into the playoffs and come playoff time they will be at a comfortable temperature.

The offense had bad spots in the first half but the real problem was pitching. They had 4 starters on the DL, a bull pen that was totally overused and they were using starters for almost two months that came from A, AA and AAA to try and survive.

I think when Giambi was activated yesterday that was the first time all year there wasn't at least one starter on the DL. Oh, wait..Pavano still is..nobody cares but it was always planned this year for him to be a starter from day one.

Their pitching has looked better, but some of that is also due to facing a whole lot of the White Sox (dead last in the AL in Runs, Hits, AVG, OBP, and SLG), Royals (10th in the AL in Runs, 11th in OBP and SLG), Blue Jays (9th in the AL in Runs, 11th in OBP) and Orioles (12th in AL in Runs).

Again, no doubt that they've been shit hot lately and are, on the whole, much improved. But it'll be interesting to see how long this can last.

Huge stretch coming up now, with Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit, Anaheim, Detroit, and Boston.

    Yankees sweep em all :breakdance:

no but seriously, I would guess that they win 4 out of the 6 series and with 2 sweeps

no doubt the pitching was sometimes bad. that happens to, but my main concern was the yankee bats, they either hit good or didnt hit at all.

inconsistency, now i think they have finally understand eachother and one's role. when someone is cold the other yankees know to pick him up, in a comfortable level, they know when the pitching is bad that day, they can flip the switch and score runs, if you have noticed you would know that every time the yankees have lost by double digits, they are not that far back, the only time so far was in the devil rays game, where they lost 14-4 i think.

How is it possible to lose by double digits and not be far back?

The way Cleveland and Detroit are playing now this doesn't look as bad as it did a month ago but it's all about winning or tying series (in Detroit's case). If the Yankees can do that consistently they will be in the playoffs.
