I am one of the most optimistic posters on the board and I don't most much at all. But I felt the need to post today. I have loved Mangini and Tannenbaum. They are the best thing that could have happened to this franchise. I love what they've done personnel wise., Xs and Os wise, draft, you name it. But they have got to be careful now not to let their egos get in the way of putting the best team on the field. Its obvious what I'm talking about. THis Pete Kendall thing has to end. And Revis needs to be in camp. If you don't have plans for Kendall on this team, get rid of him, enough is enough. And its not just what they are doing to Kendall. I could care less about that whining malcontent. Its how other players view whats going on. People are saying nobody is coming out in defense of Kendall so its no big deal. I don't think thats true. Nobody is coming out in his defense cause they know better in with ragrds to the ramifications. And again, I like that, the fact that players can't come out against the front office. But doesn't mean they aren't taking notice. When the next time somone is asked to renogotiate in good faith (not saying this was the Kendall situation) they may not. When someone is asked to take a paycut for the team they may not. When all is even, and a free agent has a choice to be a Jet or another team paying equal dollar and equal chance to win, this could be the deal breaker. Players watch how other players are treated. If you don't wanmt to pay him (and I wouldn't either) get rid of him!! I thought the whole Jet Philosophy revolved around guys wanting to be here. If you're not gona pay him, you need to trade him for anything you can get outside the division if possible or cut him.

As for Revis, we trade up for this guy, he's the guy we want and we don't get him in. EVERYONE is signing 5 years deals. By sticking to some organizational philosophy we are hurting our chances to win. I've heard a lot of "we're just trying to do whats best for the team" on the board. Whats best for the team is to sign him to a 10 year, $1,000 contract, but that isn't possible. Give him the 5 year deal like everyone else and get the guy into camp. This is silly. Again, the perception to players on the team and on other teams that the Jets don't negotiate in good faith, be it true or fales, is not going to help the future of this franchise........and god forbid we aren't always coming off a 10-6 season.

All I'm saying is lets not cut our nose to spite our face. Just like not naming Chad as starter until March, these unneccessary "Jets Values" can come back to get us in the future. Get rid of Kendall, get Revis in and lets move onto to a great season.

Players renegotiating out of the kindness of their hearts is a fallacy. There has to be a benefit for both sides of the deal does not happen. Just like there was a benefit to Kendall renegotiating when he did.

ok, maybe you missed the ENTIRE point of the post, but that wasn't it. And yes, re-negotiations are beneficial to both parties. But not all players renegotiate when asked, even if there is a short term benefit for them.

The only benefit to the player is that he won't get cut if he renegotiates. Promise them the moon and deliver a pizza. The NFL way.

I don't buy this. I live in Chicago and lived with the whole Lance Briggs fanchise tag saga, with him calling the front office all kinds of names and declaring he'll never play for them again, but he signed his franchise tag salary and reported, and no free agent will hold that against the Jets in the future. This is life in the NFL, free agents will file this under "it's a business, these things happen". Look how much money they threw at Chad, Martin, Chrebet, Bryan Thomas, Cotchery after they proved their value to the team. Free agents will take notice of that too...(oh, and by the way, it doesn't look like this team will be hoping to attract top tier free agents anyway, given their two year free agency period track record. They go for under the radar guys).

I said if money is even, this could be a deal breaker. All I'm saying is if you aren't winning games AND its out there that you may not be treating players like other teams, they may shy away from you.

And all free agents aren't top tier free agents. I don't care if the guy commands veterans minimum, if that is whats on the table from 5 teams, the player may choose the team that he feels may treat him the best in the long run.

And still everyone is missing the main premise of the post and stop thinking that these guys can't do any wrong. This Revis thing and Kendall thing are WRONG!!!!! Get Revis in with a 5 year deal and trade/cut Kendall. Its going to affect not only wins-losses but is going to hurt us in the future. And if people don't think organizations that aren't consistent winners can get stung by a bad perception by players, they are sadly mistaken.

But virtually every team in the NFL has at one time or another someone pissed off with their situation. Do you think that, all things even, free agents won't choose the Chiefs because of the way they strung Trent Green on for so long? What about Asante Samuel's situation with the Patriots? Do you think they kept Adalius Thomas up at night when the Pats threw their offer at him. All things even or not, your reading too much into this Kendall situation, if anything, all his moaning to the media will make free agents appreciate the Jet's tough stance even more...

So you think keeping him on the team and running him with the second unit, and sending him to the rookie dorm is constructive? Or would it be better to get rid of him and tell him to take his contract demands and stick em?

    88toon, I agree 100%. It's petty, and nonproductive.

Mangini and Tannenbaum would be wise to adapt the best practices of Belichick/Pioli and lost the negative shit.

Also, agreed on the Revis point. Excuse me, but, we have the Patriots coming in Week 1--a game that will define the season in terms of whether we have a chance to grab the division or are we immediately shooting for the wild card--and Revis needs to be starting that week.

5 years or 6? Who knows, maybe we'll want to get rid of him after 4 years.

Rising ticket prices....extortion in the parking lot...I have zero tolerance for this cheap penny ante crap.

Chad goes down because we don't have an adequate Guard to replace Kendall, Mangenius will find out how quickly things can get tough for a coach around here.

Not so. Quite often a player can turn non-guaranteed future salary into immediate cash by way of a bonus in a renegotiation. Like Kendall did.

Also, I can bet with some degree of certainty that Kendall will be gone and every o-line issue we have all year will be treated as if he could have solved it, which he couldn't and won't for whatever team he is on.

Exactly. Everyone is quick to excuse these two errors in judgement becuase we played well and went 10-6. This board will be asking why Revis didn't get done sooner when week one arrives and our secondary struggles vs. the Pats. Hopefully we don't look back and say "man, if we had Revis ready to go week one, we might have been in position to win the division or grab a wild card.

Won't hear that from me. Like I said, get rid of the guy if he is not in your future plans. If anyone thinks he'll be a Jet in week 1 is crazy, so why keep him on the team for this mini circus?

But I will be yelling and screaming if Revis isn't ready by week one, just thinking "what if" we got him into camp on time? We didn't trade up if we didn't feel the guy could help us week one and we're not allowing him to.

I am glad someone made a post like this because I was thinking of doing it myself. I understand if you don't want to cave in to a player's whining about his contract. That's fine. And I can even understand keeping him a little bit longer, simply seeing if you can get a low grade draft pick (which I assumer is what they're doing here). But for the love of God, don't give the guy more reason to complain. I'm talking about purposely placing him in the rookie dorms. Accident? Please we all know that's not the case.

And I agree this Revis deal is just getting stupid. 5 years or 6? Well lets see, the guy above and below you are 5 years and have been signed for a few days now. GET HIM SIGNED AND IN PRACTICE. You don't trade up for a guy you expect to make an immediate impact and then argue about something as stupid as this. 5 years or 6? Listen, if this guy is the guy we think we drafted then we will be wanting to lock him up long term long before year 5 or 6 which makes this even dumber to me. Get your crap together Tangini and lose the ego trip.

I disagree with the rookie dorm but you can't just cut a player when he wants you to, that's like just granting a player free agency whenever they want. Why would the other players honor their contracts if they can just be a malcontent and force the team to cut them, and then sell their services to the highest bidder? They have to force him to shut up and play and if he dogs it then you suspend him or send him home with pay but he gets another year older and doesn't get to play for anyone else.

Why does Kendall deserve any more money? He's an average offensive lineman that is undersized. He's had a nice career, but he never shuts his mouth. Remember the Cardinals cut him? The bottom line is he signed a contract with the Jets and if he isn't happy with it then he can hold out. If he's not going to hold out then he should shut his trap. Kendall thinks some awful organization will give him big time money and maybe they will but if thats what he wants then it's his fault for signing a long term contract. The Jets will wait him out, they don't have any reason not to. It's about time our front office showed some balls instead of how they got abused during the Herm/Bradway era by agents, other teams etc....

As far as Revis is concerned the Jets have every right to ask for a 6 year contract as long as the player is given a better contract value wise then someone getting a 5 year deal. There is no rule that says the player can get only get 5 years. What if Revis is a bust? the 6 year deal would benefit him more since he would get more money up front. What if he's great? Chances are around year 4 or 5 he would get a new contract anyway. The bottom line is that first round picks are paid way more then they should be and the teams have every right to try and negotiate a contract that benefits them as well. For all we know Revis may want the 6th year and his agent knows that if he gives a 1st round pick a 6 year contract that every other agent will use it against him going forward. They're is a lot more things going on here then just the jets looking for 6 and Revis looking for 5. The Jets can survive without Revis now but can Revis and his agent afford to hold out the entire training camp? He's not sitting out the entire year, the player wants his money regardless if it's 5 or 6 years.

I think what Mangini and Tannenbaum have down over the two offseasons should be enough reason for us trust them until they prove otherwise.

Exactly Dressen...I'm sorry, but this is just not as big a deal as is being presented in this thread. The secondary is not doomed for the season because Revis has missed a couple of days of camp, and if we cave in to Kendall, they we set a crappy precendent. Right now we're paying for the Cardinals decision to cut Kendall after he started being a pain in the ass to that organization. Now he's learned that it works and is trying to repeat it here. But fortunately Tangini isn't biting. The worst thing we could do is cave to a disgruntled player. Remember how we refused to sign Abraham to a long term deal and he sat out all training camp? This is the way the business goes guys, deal with it..
