i wouldn't get too crazy about this guys.....if there us one position on a defense that is least affected by a player holding out its cornerback.

probably take a few more days but he will be in soon.

As a fan of the team, you are better off siding with the TEAM. Each time a player gets a big contract or a shorter deal, it increases the money against the cap, increases the amount of the contract the team will have to pay to retain the player when the contract expires, increases the possibility that the player will leave via free agency and decreases the possibility of the Jets keeping a team together should the team be successful. Unless Revis is going to pay you part of his contract, you gain nothing as a fan by siding with the player. You root for the name on the helmet not the name on the back of the jersey, especially in today's NFL. If Revis ends up a being a star, would you rather he be a free agent in 5 or 6 years? If he ends up being a bust, would you rather the Jets paid more or less in guaranteed money. If you want the Jets to be a success, you have to hope that they sign players for less money than they are worth, not more.

thanks for the enlightening break down of what a team fan means .. TO YOU!!

For me, I am a football fan and a Jets football fan. The Jets to me represents big business, corporate business... anytime I see an individual with an opportunity to get some extra money out of a corporation, (especially when they do not have an existing contract to honor) I always get sentimental and side with the little guy. Furthermore Revis and salary cap aside, the Jets have not won a SB in too long to remember. So, paying people less than they ask will not guarantee anything. Of course, if he gets what he is asking for, and then 4 yrs down the road, he did not deliver, I will certainly throw his ass under a bus!!..... first chance I get.

why did we trade up to get him then? and what makes you think revis will sign a contract soon? for like 3-4 days it has been reported that this could take a while.

We wouldn't want him to get the nickname of "Toast" because he got in late, now would we? There is plenty for rookie CBs to learn or they would be talking about him as a week 1 starter which has never been the case.

Maybe because we thought the draft was thin and went for quality over quantity? Maybe they like him alot? The guy is a rookie CB, he probably won't be an impact player this year. Him being out means more reps for Miller and others, guys who will likely be ahead of him on this years depth chart anyway.

This is the salary cap era. Overspending for anyone can hold the team back. The Jets are rebuilding and will need cap money when we are in postition to go after a big free agent who will put us over the top in a couple of years. It's critical to protect the cap right now and a few days, a week a month on a player who if we are lucky will be a big contributor in a year or two isn't that critical.

How did I know there would be a ton of whining when a 1st round pick didn't get into training camp for week 1 for the first time in a number of years? Yes, not being there from day 1 of TC hurts a player, but people calling the GM a hypocrite because he is trying to set a precedent for a 6-year deal seems more like a lack of understanding of the business aspect of the league than anything else.

Talk about spoiled. Tanny is nothing if not a shrewd businessman, if there's a delay in the signing process, chances are is for the betterment of the team.

he is competing for a starting job. if you look at all the other 1st round cornerbacks over the past 5 years, they all have been impact players when they were rookies

You have an interesting interpretation of "they all have been impact players"

He could mean they impact the game by letting the opponent score :)

Wasn't Fabian Washington a first round CB in 2005?

If both players around Revis have signed 5 year deals then he should be offiered a five year deal. This is not hard. It is almost as if Tannenbaum is thinking too hard about this one... Give the Guy a five year deal and get him in camp.
