Washingtons Stand Out Early Published: Sun, July 29, 12:10pm EST By Randy Lange Lange is editor-in-chief of newyorkjets.com. He covered the Jets for 13 years for The Record of Hackensack, N.J. File Under: Leon Washington, Rashad Washington, Cody Spencer, Brad Smith, Andre Dyson change font email article 07/29 ? This morning's training camp practice was a Washington monument of sorts. Leon Washington returned to uniform and to action after missing the previous two practices due to personal reasons. And the second-year scatback didn't look like he missed a step, especially on a dumpoff from Chad Pennington that No. 20 took darting and speeding deep into the secondary. The crowd of about 1,400 applauded. Meanwhile fourth-year safety Rashad Washington came up with some strong defensive plays. FB Stacy Tutt couldn't find the handle on a short pass and the ball popped into the air, to be plucked by Rashad and taken back the other way. Later in the session, Washington came up and put a hard hit behind the line of scrimmage on RB Danny Ware. LB Cody Spencer, who had a bit hit on Alvin Banks the previous practice, also laid a lick on Ware on a screen pass. Brad Smith continued to work at QB and while two of his passes didn't look pretty, they found their marks. The receiver both times was rookie Chansi Stuckey. The first was a wobbler off a rollout that Stuckey brought in over CB Alphonso Hodge. The second was in front of CB Rayshaun Kizer. But Kizer got Ware back with an interception, at the end of which he was taken down hard by Ware. Andre Dyson had excellent coverage on a Pennington-to-Justin McCareins end zone pass and swatted the ball away. Kellen Clemens came up big on a "touchdown" pass to Alvin Banks, getting behind LB Eric Barton. But neither Clemens nor Pennington could solve the defense during the practice-ending two-minute drill. This time both of the first two QBs needed a touchdown to overcome the 21-16 deficit. Pennington's last pass was intended for Laveranues Coles in the end zone that CB David Barrett swatted down. Clemens' drive ended on an interception.
Just got back... My biggest observation was Kendall... last on everything and dogged every drill and every play... at this point just get him out of here... I wouldn't mind kicking him out like the bucs did to meshawn or philly to TO... he's just a problem...
Blame the Jets for not just getting rid of him n dragging this out. Plus the subliminal low blows on him and tweaking him. That said I dont condone what Kendall is doing
If he is visably and obviously dogging it, could that be grounds for suspending him or something? I would love to get his negative attitude away from the team, but don't want to grant him his release (and see him go to a division rival) yet. Since our trading leverage is weak b/c everyone knows we need to move him at this point, is there some contractual requirement that he must make a genuine effort in doing his job? I don't know much about contracts, maybe some of you know if this is possible?
hell no, thats exactly what he wants us to do. keep his ass in here. if we cant trade him then just deactivate his ass on gameday
'Disgruntled' Kendall holds court By Rich Cimini It got loud and crazy today at Jets camp - with the weather, that is. After Eric Mangini's daily news conference, which followed the morning practice, the heavens opened over Hempstead, L.I. There was a violent thunderstorm, with torrential rain and lighting bolts that came precariously close to our press room. At least it seemed that way. "Pete Kendall must be throwing a tantrum," Rock from Newsday cracked, moments after a clap of thunder rattled the building. Since we're on the subject of the disgruntled guard (soon "disgruntled" will become part of his name), Kendall held court with reporters after practice and he ripped the organization again. This time, there was a new twist. Without naming names, he said he's been receiving moral support from players and coaches, many of whom seemed outraged by the way he's being treated by the organization, according to Kendall. Kendall said some players remarked in private that it has been an "eye-opening" experience for them. Obviously, Kendall is doing his best to be a royal pain in the tush, with the hope that he gets released. Stay tuned; this soap opera still isn't finished. Back to football: RB Leon Washington returned to practice after being excused for personal reasons ... TE Chris Baker, who was shaken up late in Saturday night's practice, was back on the field ... LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson was back with the starting unit ... OLB/DE David Bowens continued to receive a lot of first-team reps ... The morning session ended with a couple of horrible drives in the hurry-up offense. QB Marques Tuiasosopo, working with the second unit, really struggled in the hurry-up. After two straight ugly incompletions, he looked to the sideline and raised his arms, as if to say, "What could I do? The receiver ran a bad route." That's not the kind of body language players and coaches want to see from the quarterback. On the next play, Tui was flagged for a delay of game. He followed that with an overthrown on a deep pass. Yeesh. Next up was Kellen Clemens, who also looked shaky. He ended his six-play drive with an interception by Alphonso Hodge. The backup-quarterback situation bears watching ... One roster move: The Jets re-signed G Dominic Moran and waived PK Justin Ayat. Mangini's "star" of the day was backup NT Sione Pouha. The coach offered unsolicited praise of Pouha, perhaps hoping we'd take the bait and ask a bunch of Sione-related questions. No one did. Yesterday, Mangini did the same with Ferguson. Same result. Hey, at least we know which players are catching his eye. After practice, LB Jonathan Vilma ripped Mangini. Well, not really, but he did question his choice of music. It seems Mangini has changed the in-practice play list, playing more classical music than ever before on the sideline speakers. Last year, it was hip hop, hard rock, even some country. Now, at times, the practice field sounds like a cocktail lounge. "Mozart, Beethoven, guys aren't feeling it," Vilma said. "We have to work on that." To no one's surprise, Mangini offered a constructive, almost scientific reason for the shift in musical philosophy. He said different studies show that classical, easy-on-the-ears music is more conducive to learning, absorbing information. These days, the loudest thing at Jets camp is Pete Kendall ... and the thunder.
Ah my favourite subject again  This is what I have been concerned about from day 1 of this fiasco , sides being taken. Every player with an iminent review of their contract will be watching this and I hope , learning from it , but I fear that a split may be indicative of whats happening. Theres no smoke without fire. Jul 29 Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets public relations department did not make OG Pete Kendall available for interviews after practice Saturday, July 28. Great to hear that Leon is doing the biz again
should be noted that Eric Coleman had a big role in causing this to happen. I think he got a hand in there. Also, Stuckey had a very nice day. I'm almost certain making the team. Looks very good.
Thomas Jones looked smooth out of the backfield... and this kid Ware out of Georgia impressed me as well... good quickness maybe makes it as the 3rd rb.... and I have to admit, I'm impressed with Touiassiwhateverhisnameis.... he looked good and throws a real nice ball
If the lightening continues, maybe. But if it's safe, they'll probably be out there. Mangini loves that stuff.
Tis is of MAJOR concern to me... this guy is now becoming a poison in camp... uless its just some bullshit by the press to stir things up.... Kendall held court with reporters after practice and he ripped the organization again. This time, there was a new twist. Without naming names, he said he's been receiving moral support from players and coaches, many of whom seemed outraged by the way he's being treated by the organization, according to Kendall. I think it's worth keeping Kendall until final cuts. I mean, what if someone goes down with a season ending injury, god forbid on our team, but also on any team that wants to win now - say the Colts. I bet they'd all of a sudden be willing to pony up a late rounder to get Kendall. That would get us something, it would keep him away from Miami and it would sure as hell be worth his bitching for the next month.
Agree with your logic but at what cost to dividing or disgrunteling fellow team mates, especially young and easily influenced ones... look at what is going on with revis.. you dont think kendall's situation is causing neil whatever to whisper sweet nothings of hesitancy, and negativity into Darrell's ear....I dont want soap opera's the magnitude of say... oh the G-Men.... developing around our house... so much classineness and profesionalism has already been established...
tom Rock reports it has been moved indoors and closed to the public (at 3:36 today) http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/
No, I don't.. because if he was, and the NFLPA found out about it, he'd be off the "agents list" (which you need to be on or you can't represent an NFL player) in a heartbeat.
I wasnt aware of that and its comforting to know, thanx for the info.....I just cant stand complainers and whiners.. its always easier to hold on to the negatives as kendall is doing instead of realizing what GREAT opportunities he has this year in terms of helping this team.. taking the high road and showing some maturity... dod'n he he know how stupid it makes him look to cry to the press and teamates........... he could be sittin in the middle of DARFUR with flies on his face or realize he's making millions to play in the NFL with a roof over his head all the food he can eat and a family...... it just burns my ass:rofl2:
I'll tell you what Kendall is... he's the disgruntled guy around the office who no one likes... the guy who's always complaining and corners everyone to get on his side... and you just agree with him to get him to go away because it's easier than arguing with him... i think an even bigger problem Kendall has is there may be no team who wants him at this point... this is either his second or third team he's had drama with
