He's right... all from rotoworld: http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/transactions.aspx?sport=NFL&previousdate=7/26/2007 So Okoye, Adams, and Lynch all got 6ers...the rest five. A bad precedent for our negotiations, but still doable. #12 Lynch's voidable sixth year is a good precedent for us at #14. The money part is not that hard...just give somewhere in between the guy before and the guy after and we're good. That extra year must be the sticking point at this juncture. Man, I hate holdouts.
Amazing, the difference between Okoye's and Adams contract. Just means Adams will have to restructure sooner then later.
lynchs deal is basically for 5 years, and so is okoye's. whatever, they need to get this done as soon as possible. we need him out there this season
This doesn't make Tannenbaum a hypocrite at all, a little stubborn maybe, but there's a reason why Tannenbaum is fighting hard for the 6th year
I don't know how dependable this info is, but I read somewhere that the Jets do not believe in voidable years on their contracts. I feel like Curtis Martin had voidable years, but that might have just been the injury clause, I can't remember. Anyway, you may or may not want to add that into the equation.
^ This. Although if this standstill runs over a week, he should seriously reconsider his stance. As good as they think he's going to be, he's still a rookie. Missing a week of camp isn't the same for him as it is for a vet.
They traded two high draft picks for this guy. Getting him into camp to justify that kind of expense is what they should be focussed on. Let's say they get the 6th year just as the season is about to start and Revis comes in for the last days of camp. What have they bought themselves with that move? A player with less impact over the first half of the season? If he makes it big does he pull an Asante Samuel at 28 and disrupt the organization again because he's pissed they're franchising him after he gave in on 6 years? This just makes no sense at all from a business standpoint.
So the GM who signed every draft pick on time for the past 8 years is suddenly a moron and a hypocrite because of a 2-3 day dispute with a first round pick whose agent also happens to be Kendall's agent??? With Tannenbaum's track record and the "coincidence" that Revis and Kendall share an agent, do you really think Tannenbaum is to blame? I seriously doubt it. The way Kendall is carrying on is an embarressment to him and a significant insight into his true charater. Professionals don't act that way. The Jets are by no means cheap and Tannenbaum is a smart GM. I put the blame, in both situations, on the player and the agent.
of course hes being a hypocrite. a month ago he said: and now all of a sudden it doesnt matter anymore? like who cares what kind of contract the guy at 13 and 16 signed? sign the 6yr deal or f*ck off
thats money related. you cant compare a 6yr deal to a 5yr deal. plus with a 6yr contract revis would make more money than the guy drafted at 13 who signed a 5yr deal. so his comment wouldnt make any sense if that was the case
In terms of guarantees it will fall in between, adding another year doesn't mean the guarantee money will change, you are overreacting
The last thing we need is DRevis under prepared going in as our Nickelback. We need him on the practice field and since we have the cap space, that should be our first priority, not bickering about money.
i'm not overreacting. i just dont want him to be a non-factor this season (just look at bunkley). oh, and this is just in: POSTED 1:10 p.m. EDT, July 29, 2007 VIKES LAND ADRIAN Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Vikings have agreed to terms with running back Adrian Peterson, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 draft. Per Schefter, Peterson has signed a five-year, $40 million contract, with $17 million in guaranteed money. Peterson is the latest player drafted in the top 16 picks to sign a deal for less than the maximum term of six years. The annual average of $8 million is actually greater than the average value of LaDanian Tomlinson's contract, who signed nearly three years ago an eight-year, $60 million deal. ------ POSTED 12:28 p.m. EDT, July 29, 2007 LANDRY DEAL CLOSE? Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins and safety LaRon Landry, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2007 draft, are close to agreement on a contract. ------ hang in there tannenbaum!
You can't say he's a moron because he wants to give him a 6 yr deal... Who cares what everyone else is doing? The slotting system usually works for $, not necessarily years.... You're overreacting MAJORLY.
