So, it looks like Giambi will be back in less then two weeks. Then what? The last thing this team needs is for Cashman to go out a get another part time hitter while giving up a reliever. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2946373
It won't have any effect on Phillips anyway. What I can see happening is Torre platooning Giambi and Duncan for awhile. I don't know where that leaves Damon though. I also don't know where all these people fit on the 25 man roster. Duncan is up and we still need to make room for Karstens and Hughes. Henn will go back down but that still leaves two more to dump. I guess Duncan will too and maybe Igawa but he hasn't been all that bad lately. Duncan's problem is he can't play any position at all. He's really only a DH.
if both karstens and hughes are coming up expect Igawa to go down. It will be really interesting to see what happens when giambi is back. The last thing the yanks should do is send down phillips. He has been very stellar since coming up. I would say they should cycle in the DH with giambi and duncan and rotate the outfielders a good amount so everyone is fresh
Quite simply, Giambi should never see another game in pinstripes. UNLESS it's after the roster expands, and only then to showcase him for a trade in the offseason. Igawa is not going to be sent down. He's costing too much money to not pitch in the majors. Unless Cashman can deal him, he's going to pitch out of the pen. Henn will probably be the first casualty. Duncan the second, unless he's somehow able to keep up his pace from the weekend, which is doubtful. You don't spend that much time in the minors if you're that good. Of course, it's possible that Damon gets some time on the DL to get ready for the late season, but that's doubtful. By the time he comes back, it'll be too late for him to be useful. 2 weeks from now is the end of the first week in August. 15 days later is the end of August. A month and a half to get back into the flow is bad news, and we'd still have the roster issues then as well. Cashman has to be busy on the phones right now. There's no way they're going to let this get out of control. If it winds up that Phillps and Duncan get sent down to make room for Giambi and Mienky, I'm going to be one ticked off Yankees fan, and I'm already grumpy enough as it is.
so what your saying is that cashman has too much pride to send down igawa when we all know it is the best decision for the club. I'd much rather have karstens and hughes in the rotation than igawa. I sincerly hope they don't move him to the bullpen because he will give up runs like nobody 's business Unfortunately he has absolutely no control. If you watch the games, he rarely if ever hits the glove. He is just not fit to be a major league pitcher right now
No doubt there is a problem. Giambi at 23 million this year and another 23 next year, Igawa at what is basically 10 million a year for 4 more years, Mussina at 19 for 1, Pavano at 10 for 1, and Damon at 12 for 1 and we would be a better team without any of them. I won't even mention Abreu's 16 because he is playing better now. Cashman now wants to trade Proctor who we pay 450,000 for another part time player making 3 million. That's why he is history if we don't win it all this year.
Why do you figure Igawa won't be sent down? He was already sent down once, so I don't see how it could be a pride/stubborness thing. Honestly, I guess I don't mind at least TRYING to pitch Igawa as a lefty long man out of the pen. I'd rather get rid of Myers, and give him a shot. I'm not sure where all the Karstens love comes from. He was alright last year in limited action, but hasn't exactly projected to be anything great, and his peripherals look like shit, which tells me it was more likely that he was lucky than good. 3.26 K/9? No thanks. I think I'll take Henn instead. Better stuff. Better projections. Better peripherals. I hope Clemens mows down the Royals. Mostly because the Yanks need it, but also for more selfish and evil reasons: every good start he has makes me laugh at the Sox fan who told me - in all seriousness - he'd rather have Julian Tavarez than Roger Clemens. ----- ETA: You shouldn't factor the posting fee to Igawa's salary. It doesn't count toward the cap, and isn't going to affect the Yankee's financial options. Igawa's salary is $4 million/year, and that's all you should count. He's still overpaid at $4 million, though. Sigh.
1-2-3 inning for Clemens... They're going to talk to Chiefs coach Herm Edwards when they return!? (MLBTV has the Royals TV network tonight)
