WFAN reported today that a Scot Boras associate has said that Scot Boras and Alex Rodriguez have their eyes on the Mets for their next destination. The underling reported that "did you notice how Alex always says that he loves New York, but never says he loves playing for the Yankees". Their feeling is that with the Mets moving into the new CitiField they would have plenty of revenue to pay Alex $30 million plus, which is all Alex would want to play for his favorite team growing up. The plan would have David Wright moving to first place to replace Carlos Delgado who the Mets would buy out. The Mets would not comment on the story.
and tomorrow or Monday, Boras will say that the Red Sox are interested then next week it will be the Dodgers then the week after it will be the Angels.
Where would he play in Queens? I don't see Wright or Reyes moving, maybe 2nd base? This is probably just a negotiating chip but maybe A-rod wants to move to a better team? No offense to the Yanks but the Mets are a bit more "up and coming".
There is 0 chance..less then 0 that he would play for the Mets. He would have the exact same media to deal with and he would be dealing with it on a useless team. 0 chance..read my lips...0.
if you read the first post, it has wright moving to first base to replace delgado. this is not happening. no way.
he's playing on a useless team right now. who knows, maybe A-Rod really does want to play for a contender.
ugh - didn't get past the first couple of sentences - too many vodki's. I agree though, not happening.
I don't mean useless in ability, I mean useless in a historical sense, either past or future. Arod is a student of baseball history and if he leaves the Yankees it will be to go to Boston or the West coast (where there is no history either but at least there will be a friendly press).
I think he will end up staying a Yankee but if he gets free, you can bet Omar will make a play. Wright has said he would move positions for ARod so that isn't an issue and going all the way back to the last time he was a FA there are stories of the Mets being his favorite team growing up. Doubt it happens but if he is a FA they will be players and have as good of a chance as any other team. If you think the best baseball team in NY is useless than you really don't understand how much impact the NY market has..
Yeah, they will make a play but this isn't like 7 years ago when Texas offered 100 million more then the Mets or anyone else. Everybody will be offering the same money this time so he has his choice of where he wants to go.
exactly why if reports are true that the Mets were his favorite team growing up, they will have as good a chance as any other team, if not better..
i havent been here long but that post was retarded....useless team????....the mets are probably the 3rd biggest franchise in terms of "marquee", and they have a young nucleaus that would be enticing for any free agent...and also, Arod grew up a Mets fan, and desperatly wanted to play for the Mets when he was a free agent, but then Tom Hicks came in and payed him all that $, so please, that was stupid
If this happened, I would absolutely lose it. But there's no way it does; makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
first of all, how do you know heis a "student of the game?" and even if he was so wrapped up in history that it drives his choices, how do you explain Texas?!? Freaking Texas! Money?!? if money was so easy to deter his "historical" interests, what is to say there aren't other factors that can as well. my point is you made a ridiculous assertion, and have only contrived equally ridiculous rationalizations for it that have no basis in reality, which only makes your initial assertion what?--more ridiculous.
F A-rod. Let him go play for the Cubs. Unless he decides to be a 1st basemen or left fielder I have no use for him. Reyes is the best shortstop in the game actually playing shortstop and why move Wright who is the anchor of this team for the next decade.
