Well since the same threads have been lurking on the front page for too long I figured we need something to get people THINKING and OPINIONATING again. Remember predictions are worthless but fun. Don't hate on other posters. Welcome to rock bottom offseason.

    1st round.
Three years from now _____ will be a ______ player.

JaMarcus Russell QB - bust, work ethic is questionable. In Oakland, it'll be non existent.
Calvin Johnson WR - star, the kid has too much talent not to be. And Mike Marts is going to uuuuuse him.
Joe Thomas OL - starish, don't see him being as big as D'Brick, but still a probowler.
Gaines Adams DE - star, speed is gold for DEs
Levi Brown OT - bust, Sorry Zona, you reached for nothing. Maybe solid. Maybe.
LaRon Landry DB - average, won't live up to the hype.
Adrian Peterson RB - bust, I see him as a third down specialist all his career.
Jamaal Anderson DE - bust, he's a falcon. duh...
Ted Ginn Jr. FL - bust, great returner but will never be able to get it going under so much preasure.
Amobi Okoye DT - star, he has all the time in the world to get it right.
Patrick Willis LB - star, 9ers got a heck of a guy here to lead their defense.
Marshawn Lynch RB - bust, not his fualt. It's just a little hard to run with 9 guys in the box.
Adam Carriker DE - Bust. Will find the NFL games too fast for him.
Darrelle Revis CB - average, best corner in draft- wait till he matches up vs Moss.
Lawrence Timmons LB - bust, will get pushed around a lot.
Justin Harrell DT - bust, no help the world will crash on him
Jarvis Moss DE - bust, plays in a tough division with good OLs -Oak
Leon Hall CB - bust, He'll get arrested before he can get good.
Michael Griffin S - average, will surprise people and hold together the titans D
Aaron Ross CB - star, good return man and will contribute at CB
Reggie Nelson S - bust, should've kept their safeties. He'll wack himself out of the league.
Brady Quinn QB - bust, windows only get smaller in the NFL not bigger.
Dwayne Bowe WR - star, about time KC got a good WR.
Brandon Meriweather CB - average, he'll be in the giant cycle that is NE DBs.
Jon Beason OLB - bust, Panthers.... ha....
Anthony Spencer DE - star, Dallas is building up one heck of a young defense.
Robert Meachem WR - average, will run around alot and streth te field but never be "the man".
Joe Staley OL - average, good pick up here. Solid guy.
Ben Grubbs OG - average, not Hutch but still very solid guy.
Craig Davis WR - bust, could've gotten a much better guy here.
Greg Olsen TE - bust, I've seen him live, this Betch.
Anthony Gonzalez - solid, he'll do what he'll have to do. Be a great #3 guy. He has it made.

    My disagreements would be:

    Joe Thomas - average
    Levi Brown - average
    Adrian Petersen - average
    Jamaal Anderson - star
    Amobi Okoye - bust
Marshawn Lynch - star (the best player in the draft is a real possibility here)
    Ben Grubbs - star
    Greg Olsen - average

I think the first round is going to be a bit better than 50% busts this year. The potential stars that were still around in the mid 20's (Meriweather, Spencer, Staley and Grubbs) look as good as any set I've seen in awhile. And nobody reached there. There were no Bryan Thomas mistakes made in this draft in my opinion, but several Ed Reed types available and chosen late in the round.

    1. JaMarcus Russell QB - Avg/Bust: Has the arm, but I don't know if he'll survive in Oakland
    2. Calvin Johnson WR - Star: Has all the tools and a great attitude. Only injuries can stop him...
    3. Joe Thomas OL - Avg/Star: Should be a very solid LT in Cleveland. Might move to RT, but he'll be a success.
    4. Gaines Adams DE - Avg: Will be a decent pass rusher, but won't perform as well as the #4 pick should.
    5. Levi Brown OT - Avg: Will be a good starter and more successful in the desert than Leonard Davis was.
    6. LaRon Landry DB - Star: He has all the tools and potential... Washington may have a mediocre team, but one of the best safety duos ever...
    7. Adrian Peterson RB - Star: This assumes a non-injury plagued career. I believe that he will be hurt too much to become a star.
    8. Jamaal Anderson DE - Star: I like this pick... He has great size and athleticism. Will be better than Gaines Adams and a Top 5/10 NFL DE.
    9. Ted Ginn Jr. WR - Bust/Avg: Will be a solid slot guy and kick returner... Nothing more.
    10. Amobi Okoye DT - Star: He will adjust quicker than expected. He'll put up high sack totals for a long time.
    11. Patrick Willis LB - Star: Reminds me a lot Jonathan Vilma. He'll lead San Fran's defense for 10+ years.
    12. Marshawn Lynch RB - Bust/Avg: Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling on this one.
    13. Adam Carriker DE - Avg/Star: Will be a good starter and more of a blue-collar guy. He'll be a fine player, but not quite a star.
    14. Darrelle Revis CB - Avg/Star: Will be a very functional, physical CB in NY for awhile. We won't be disapointed at all, but he won't be a Top 5 CB. Might move to FS down the road.
    15. Lawrence Timmons LB - Star: Will find a niche somewhere in Pitt.
    16. Justin Harrell DT - Bust/Avg: I have a feeling injury woes will haunt him down the road.. Otherwise a good one.
    17. Jarvis Moss DE - Bust: Is too one-dimensional. Character concerns once called minor will grow...
    18. Leon Hall CB - Avg: Will be a good starter, but not a star. He'll start from Day 1.
    19. Michael Griffin S - Avg: He'll make it in the NFL as a good starter, but he's no LaRon Landry.
    20. Aaron Ross CB - Bust: I believe he was a one year wonder. He'll be out of the league by 4-6 years.
    21. Reggie Nelson S - Avg: I'm not a believer in him at all. Won't be a starter...
    22. Brady Quinn QB - Avg: Won't be Peyton Manning... He'll be a good QB in the NFL and for Cleveland, but he won't win a Super Bowl.
    23. Dwayne Bowe WR - Avg/Star: He'll be a Top 15 WR for a very long time.
    24. Brandon Meriweather CB - Bust: This one will blow up in Belicheck's face somehow...
    25. Jon Beason LB- Avg: Will be an OK starter and will not make it for too long.
    26. Anthony Spencer DE - Star: Is good against the run and pass. He and D-Ware will form one of the best pash rushing duos of all times.
    27. Robert Meachem WR - Star: Another great duo of players on a team is made here. Meachem, Colston, Bush, McAllister and Brees will be compared to the Rams offense of the late 90s/early 00s.
    28. Joe Staley OL - Avg: Might become a good starter, but he won't ever make a Pro Bowl.
    29. Ben Grubbs OG - Bust: Another hunch... I have a feeling the Ravens will regret passing on Blalock.
    30. Craig Davis WR - Avg/Star: A reach at the time will be proven wrong. He will head the Chargers' recieving core and do so very well.
    31. Greg Olsen TE - Avg: He might become a solid starter, but he's not in the upper echelon TE
    32. Anthony Gonzalez WR - Avg: Will take on the ever important slot role in Indy and someday will start. Could also handle return duties...

There's my opinion. We should save these guesses and accidently find them 10 years later and laugh at how lousy these predictions were. I'm going to put this in a word document.

    Good thread though.

Totally agree...At best he will be a #2 or #3 WR in the league. When all Dolphin fans boo and all Jets fan laugh you have to be rethinking your #9 pick.

    I'd say the average bust of a star is a C-cup. Wait...what?

So tell me what you know about his work ethic. Or are you parroting what some other know-nothing has written to fill space?

This is a kid whose family drove him across the country to attend a football camp he wanted to go to in California when he was a young teen. A guy who organized offseason practices for his LSU teammates and actually knocked on doors of players who missed a session. This "lack of work ethic" thing gets thrown around for him but I've yet to see anyone provide a specific example.

Russell is going to work hard but being a Raider right now is just the kiss of death. When Al Davis passes on the Raiders may well be back but he lost it a couple of years ago and right now that ship is on the reef hard.

Yes, it's been the kiss of death for guys like Asomugha, Morrison, Burgess, Howard, Curry, and other's who never seem to fill their potential, pardon the sarcasm.

It's about the coach. Playing for Shell was the kiss of death. Playing for Gruden was not. They both worked for Al Davis.

its funny how the only offensive player he mentions is a backup wr who cant stays healthy for more than 10 snaps/season

seriously dude, your offense is getting worse and worse. those days when you had a running game with lamont jordan and a passing game with collins and moss are over. your center doesnt even know how to handoff the god damn football.

Like those days were any good either.

Your offense died when you gave us Jon Gruden along with your SuperBowl ring.

Gruden got to work for Davis before he lost it. Just look at what the Raiders have tried to do with the offense since Gruden left, when Davis was the guy pulling all the levers and you come to understand that Davis is not capable of playing that role any more.

Until they take the car keys away the Raiders are gonna be a last place team. Even with Herm in KC the AFC West is a rough neighborhood and having a guy with half his marbles running the show hurts.

His point was that playing for Davis and the Raiders is the kiss of death. Those guys play for Davis and the Raiders too, don't they?

I've never tried to "spin" where the offense is at. One of the worst of all time last year without question. So you think the offense is still getting worse? I don't buy it. Last year was rock-bottom if I've ever seen it. Nowhere to go but up.

Pretty smug. I guess you would never have won a Super Bowl with a stiff like Dungy. And it hasn't been all peaches and cream in Tampa since that Super Bowl either, has it?

I can't argue results. I can point out that one of the things Davis likes about Kiffin is his grasp of personnel, and by all accounts Kiffin has had a free hand in that area and in hiring coaches.

I'll say it here and you guys can throw it in my face if I'm wrong six months from now; The Raiders are the team on the rise in that division. Herm and KC are falling.

  19. IMO there should be another category: Star/Good/Average/Bust

There will be players who are occassional to borderline pro bowlers who may not be stars in the league.
