Chad will be 33-35 by the time the Jets get a "Team" with the Defensive talent to get it done. We have to beat other "Teams" who have everything in place and great Qb's as well.

It is amazing how so much time is spent on this board bashing our QB, the comeback player of the year. It is not like we have a QB battle because we don't, so let's support him and hope he and the Jets have a good year.

That is it.. there is noone on the roster that is even close right now to overtaking the top spot. I understand Chads limitations as a QB but I also know he is our best and only option to get us to the playoffs and hopefully to a SB..

I'm all for upgrading the position if the situations presents itself, unfortunately great QBs don't grow on trees. There are only 3 great Qbs in the entire league & then about 10-15 that fall in the second tier. Chad is a part of that group..

well right now chad is the best chance we have at winning so i dont know what we're argueing about. i mean bash him all u want but does anybody else think clemens would do any better for us? should we trade for another qb? pull the plug on clemens cause he couldn't beat chad out in less then 2 years for a starting spot and draft another qb? if the goal is winning a SB then like it or not chad is the best chance we have to do that THIS year.

And it's not like nobody has ever won with one of the second tier guys. People here that want to endlessly bash Chad act like we think he's the second coming of Unitas or Montana, I don't think any of us are saying that. The guy manages to win a lot of games we don't seem to win when he's not in there, and most of us appreciate that. He gives us a chance, which we haven't always had in previous years. All anyone can ask for is a chance.

Can you prove that? I say he is in the middle of the second tier. Fact is he has won with an average team and is fully capable of leading a great team to a SB..

chad is at the bottom of the second tier so what do u think we should do about it? go after one of the other guys in trades or free agency? either way its not gonna land anybody here this season.

Just because there's nobody on the roster capable of taking Chads spot doesn't mean there's no reason for concern. Chad Pennington is a middle of the pack QB. There's no denying that. We win when he plays because he minimizes his mistakes. Our alternatives have always been garbage. Is it any wonder we don't win when they play? Mediocre > garbage. Does that mean we have to be content with mediocre?

Chad gives us the best chance to win this year. He's the starter until he plays his way out of it or gets injured. Hopefully he minimizes his mistakes this year because thats what makes him a capable QB. If he doesn't we get a look at Clemens and we'll know what we have to do in the draft.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Every chance someone get's to take a crack at him they do. Who cares what tier he is in, at this point it does not matter.

well mangini made it clear that the best players will play, so if clemens can't beat chad out for a spot AND chad is mediocre, then how is this gonna improve us?

It probably wouldn't improve us, but I'd be surprised if they didn't even want to get a look at the kid in action if our season ends up a lost cause. And it will be a lost cause if CP doesn't play well.

Don't get me wrong here either, I want the Jets to win games and win SB's. If CP is the QB that will help us do it then thats great. I'm just not convinced that the QB that will help us get to the promised land is on our roster right now.

Teams have won the SB with average QB play, but most of those teams were overpowering in other aspects of the game. We're not, and if we're following the Pats model we WILL need good QB play. If Pennington does not improve drastically from last year, he's not the guy.

It's kind of early to be worrying about the season becoming a "lost cause", isn't it? It's June.

chad will be our starter for at least another 3-4 seasons regardless of what tier he falls into and is our best qb on the roster. as far as his competition, he does'nt have any. go chad!!

I'm not worrying about it, just throwing scenarios out there. Not so different then a predictions thread in June.

I hear you. Sorry, I'm so used to champ and his never ending predictions of doom and gloom. Not ready to even think about this season being a lost cause yet. As long as no major publications are picking us for the Super Bowl this year we should be ok.

Yea thats true, I also prefer for the team to be picked middle of the pack or lower. Only thing thats annoying about that is the billion power ranking threads that will undoubtedly show up. We'll get our due if we deserve if though.
