Arm strength in an NFL QB is a combination of many different variables of which musculature is often over-rated. Doug Flutie had one of the strongest arms I've ever seen coming out of college and he was one of the smallest guys ever to play the position. What he had was excellent form and mechanics and the best weight-shift on a throw I've ever seen.

Looking at Chad play it seems unlikely that it's his actual arm strength that limits him. It seems much more likely to be the mechanics he uses to throw the ball. One of the things that Chad does better than 95% of the QB's out there is to make a touch pass on the run. He can be rolling out full speed and still feather a pass to just about anywhere on that side of the field. From watching him it seems like he isolates his arm from the rest of his body on plays like that and maintains full accuracy in a situation in which most QB's drop significantly. It's quite possible that his arm is isolated from the rest of his mechanics on other plays too. That would explain his accuracy and also his lack of zip on the ball.

Just to amplify a little bit: Chad looks like his head and his arm are the only things that make big contributions to his passing game.

In order to win a Super Bowl a group of players must put up positive stats...That is a FACT!

Can you please show us a picture of your world?

Just when I thought we were done with Chad's arm strength issues.......

This argument will never end until either Chad wins a Championship OR retires. He has the brains, he has the leadership and he has the same amount of SB wins as Dan Marino.

Do I think he can take the Jets to the SB? Only if everything comes together in a single season. I don't think he'll ever bring this team back from deep deficits but he won't lose games due to stupidity.

Middle of the road? Functional? Good but not Great? He'll wind up with gaudy stats for his career, but probably will be remembered as just another Jets QB with a decent career and no rings to show for it.

So in Champ's world we have one way of measuring players - did he win a championship (success) or not (failure). Nothing else matters.

So here we have the successful QB's

    Jeff Hostetler
    Mark Rypien
    Trent Dilfer
    Jim McMahon
    Brad Johnson

    Failures

    Dan Marino
    Jim Kelly
    Sonny Jurgenson

    It's such a simple game, isn't it?

By the way, did the following QB's have great arms?

    Len Dawson
    John Unitas (in 1970)
    Jim Plunkett (twice)
    Joe Montana (four)
    Jeff Hostetler
    Brad Johnson

That's 10 SB titles right there

Then there are the dozens of big arm failures. Playing QB takes many attributes. Arm strength is only one of many many factors. When will people understand that???

Plunkett and Hostetler both had pretty big arms as did Unitas. The others while not having great arms, had substantially better arms than Chad has shown since his injury in 04.

When the next Browning Nagle comes along and leads us to another 4-12 filled with laserbeams right at the free safety.

I think this is a pretty fair assessment of his arm strength issue. I remember last year reading that he actually discovered that his throwing mechanics needed to be improved. That was part of the deal with his taking up martial arts was to help him with his mechanics and how he uses his body to throw rather than just his arm.

For me, this is something that can be improved upon, but it takes considerable time and effort to be able to do it. Last year he worked on rehabbing his arm and when he was ready to start tackling the offense and playing he added that. Hopefully, this off season he picked up on the workouts to help improve his mechanics of throwing. I never expect the guy to have a Marino or Favre arm, but do admit he could throw a bit harder on some passes. Every quarterback has a weakness in my opinion, but I never feel like this is going to limit Chad's ability for us to win games.

Brady works with a personal trainer in the offseason just concentrating on his throwing mechanics. He has an awesome throwing action. I always thought Pennington needed to refine his throwing action, and wondered why it had not been addressed sooner.

When every team faces a QB who can make all the throws, the change of pace throws them off. How did Ali beat Foreman, "Rope a Dope" How does a control pitcher beat a fast ball pitcher?

Defenses lack of respect for Pennington arm opened up a lot of downfield 1 on 1 situations. That's exactly how we beat the Pats in foxboro last year and almost made a game of the first meeting. Defenses cheating up creates opportunities behind it.

Did they win rings? If that answer is affirmative then they were successful vs the ones that you mentioned that are ringless so they were in the end unsuccessful. Sports is most simple you are either winners or losers. There is zero grey area since the only thing that matters in sports is winning CHAMPIONSHIPs. It really is that simple

Explain how he's led us to the playoffs several times... and won playoff games on the road. Don't be a tool.

& what about Peyton Manning's failures in the POs in NE? Oh wait, he finally overcame his early struggles to beat them and eventually win the SB.

Doesn't count. Champ only sees the negatives in Jet players. Any other team and the guy is a hero.
