http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=paolantonio_sal&id=2907802 Absolutely check this article out. Sal Paolantonio really outlines the Jets off season (and Giants) while specifically analyzing the running game. Great read.
This offense was made for me. It's creative, but it will give me a chance to show what I can do if they want to put the load on me. -Thomas Jones I like it.
The Giants are going to be a mess this season. There FO is horrible, they did nothing to help out the Oline...or Manning for that matter. Next to the Titans, I think the Giants had one of the worst Off-seasons.
Thomas Jones is the guy who after the super bowl told his agent "Get me to New York." a player who wants to come in here and play for this team of that caliber can only do nothing but good for the team. With L-Wash as change of pace, its going to be annoying to play against the running game with a strong offensive line, of course.
Honestly if Jones does what he is being hyped up to do, we may be in for one of our greatest seasons of all time... still... can't get your hopes up with the Jets...
I completely concur. I'm not ruling out the chance of a miracle that David Diehl and Guy Whimper step up and are saviors to that lines, but the odds are near improbable. Jerry Reese has no clue what he's doing and their draft proves it. They werent aggressive and just took BPA that fell to them instead of addressing key needs. Joe Staley was theirs for the taking and they didn't want him. That was the most glaring need and instead they went after Aaron Ross, who will be good, but this draft was so deep at corner that they could've gone later and gotten one, or pulled a San Fran and traded up to get Staley. Also they ignored RB till what, round 6 or 7 and took Ahmad Bradshaw, aka Captain Lets-Steal-My-Neighbors-PS2. Its obviously that the Giants FO is the blind leading the blind. As for Thomas Jones, if this guy is everything he's cracked up to be and he is utilized properly in our offense with the mind of Shotty working a million miles a minute, we're set. I can't wait.
"Steal of the off-season" I'm glad some guys in the media are noting this. Jones is an excellent RB. He's a C-Mart clone with a burst. He's going to be fun to watch for the next 3-5 seasons. I only hope Leon gets his chances too.
I'm convinced we will have a MONSTER running game. Cedric Houston was our diamond in the rough but because of Herms obbession to run Curtis down and Houstons recent string of injuries he has been unable to capatilize on the opportunity to be the premeire back. Every time Cedric touches the ball not only does he land forward but he usually picked up huge gains. The only problem was that he was sharing time with Curtis who broke down at the end of '05 and when 06 started Jets traded for the shitty ass Barlow who took the spotlight but did nothing with it. Thankfully we picked up Leon Washington and he has turned out to be a premier back. I love his moves and his speed. But its evident that he cant carry the workload alone just yet, its still going to be his second season. When we picked up Thomas Jones everything changed. Jones is both the agile speedy runner that Leon is but also the power up the gut run your over runner that Cedric is. So when you plug it in we are going to have A LOT of options. Thomas Jones will be the premier back and when he is either taking a breather or is uneffective we can switch to a just as capable back but that is either pure speed or pure stregnth. When is becomes apparent which style is most effective against our opponent we can just hit em again and again and change the pace of the game and then throw Thomas in for the kill. And that doesnt even begin to mention what that opens up for Brad Smith, Penny and the play action pass, Baker over the middle?! OMG Coles & Cotch deep forgetaboutit!!
Last I checked, it was a four year deal worth $20 mil. $13.1 in the first two years and $12 mil guaranteed. Still a good deal, but the guy deserves more than $4 mil a year, at least while he's still young.
