devil, that's awesome. I have a high amount of respect for guys who can thrown an effective knuckler. I know how hard it is to actually make it effective. If you miss with it, it's an extra base hit. ---------------------- As for Wakefield, he's very good. Don't let my stats or his performance tonight cloud your judgement of him guys. The guy can throw that knuckleball VERY effectively. The problem for him is that the Yankees are a very good offensive team (regardless of the recent lack of any hitting prowess.) Add to that the fact that they get to see him 3-4 times a year, and it's easy to see why the Yankees can tee off against him. It's not an infallable pitch. If it misses, it's toast. The thing with the Yankees is that they "see" it better than most teams. Keep in mind, it's not moving very fast, in comparison to a regular major league fastball. Unless, like devil pointed out earlier, it's kept down, the "break" is coming right into the zone, and that's a gimmie for the Yankees hitters. All the dancing in the world doesn't stop good hitters from using it like a tee ball if it's belt high. ------------------------- As for Joe Torre, that was one of the best things I've seen him do in years. Of course he knew he'd get thrown out, but that call deserved an argument. The Yankees really are getting beat up by the blue this year. That's the kind of fire that needs to be shown by the coaching staff, to fire up the team. It's all about heart. This game is 90% mental, and if your head isn't in it, you aren't going to win. Getting your heart involved, like Joe did tonight, is just what this team needs.
Man Wang was BATTERED around tonight, but has only surrendered 3 runs, cool... Cano warming up? Melky in Center? Nice... Yeah Abreu is 2-2, and sitting the last two days may have helped, but he still sucks.
Wang got a ton of run support, and good defensive play. If Pettitte gets play like this all year, he's a Cy Young candidate. Cano has been coming along. It was just a matter of time with him. I got down on him, but he never really deserved it. He's a good ballplayer. His concentration was missing, but he seems to have found it. Melky is having a great night. THAT'S how you play when you get the chance! Abreu is now 2-3 with that K, but still, it's a pretty good night. Maybe he finally got the message. That close strike 2 set up that strike 3. Overall, this is the kind of game the Yankees need to play. Don't put it all on the arms. Score the runs, and let the pitching just keep you in the game.
Dougie in! He should still be the first baseman on this team, IMO. Jeez Donnie. Do you think that you have to be just like Torre with the pitching? Here's a tip, don't.
He just brings energy...And plays all out...I know we've been thru this hundreds of times, but seeing these guys just not hustle is a joke, including Cano, who you would think would hustle more...But Melky hustles, runs, has fun it seems like... Need more of Melky and Jeter and less of Giambi and Abreu
Damn, Manny makes it look easy. He looks like he wants to yawn when he hits balls. It's unreal. I hate the uniform he wears, but damn, I can't help but love how he hits the ball.
Bruney is the freaking man...I'm really starting to trust him a lot more and would honestly give him a shot to be the set-up man... Whenever those opportunities come, haha.
Unfortunately, we need him where he is. Except Proctor, there's no one else capable of throwing the sheer number of innings we require from our middle relief.
Hahahahha, as much as I want to despise Manny, I just can't. He is a true character, and he truly loves the game.
Okay, it's a 9-3 game. Cano gets hit...Before Dice-K hit Jeter and ARod a few Sunday nights ago... In a freaking 9-3 game can Farnsworth HIT someone?
I am frustrated as much as any Yankees fan about hit yankees but not at his head, shoulders or below.
