http://breakingnews.nypost.com/dyna...ENNER_INTERVIEW_BAOL-?SITE=NYNYP&SECTION=HOME Good quotes. Torre is gonna stay...:shit:
Wow, as much as Cashman's moves have blown up in his face, I would expect Joe to be gone before Cashman, or at least at the same time. I don't get it. George needs to realize, Cashman brought in the talent. What else can he do? Is it Cashman's fault Abreu doesn't like to wake up for night games? Or afternoon games? Is it Cashman's fault Damon's legs were a mess? Cashman gets blame for Pavano, deservedly, but come on. Joe has a lot more control over the team that Brian does. Well, this dispells the whole "dementia" bullshit that's been speculated. He's still the same old George.
I like George, just not as owner of the Yankees. What he did for Virginia Tech speaks to what a good person he is.
Is it Torre's fault that Abreu is struggling? Did Torre hit Damon in the knees with a fungo? Torre is atrocious with bullpen management and such, but I think you give him far too much blame sometimes.
They will be gone at the same time. Cashman fired and Torre retired. Cashman also gets the total blame for Igawa too which you forgot, and trading Sheffield for nothing. Johnson too.
The Yankees are worth 1,000,000,000. George giving 1,000,000 from the Yankees is like a person worth 1,000,000 giving 1,000. David Wright did that himself many times over. And the Yankees got all the publicity. OH PLEASE. And you are a journalist? I hope not an investigative journalist.
You won't find a bigger Yankee hater on the planet. Maybe equal to, but not greater than. George Steinbrenner, though, has always been exceedingly generous. I'm reminded of that every time I drive by Henry Steinbrenner Stadium in Cambridge. He's a good man. He's a generous man. But that doesn't take away from the fact that I LOVE making fun of the guy, and I LOVE taking pleasure in his tantrums and misery.
I actually appreciate George and his generosity. I would have been much more impressed if he did it anonymously. But then we would not be aware of it, right? Notice that when David Wright did it, VT announced it, and he did not have a ceremony at Shea Stadium.
Cashman is to blame for plenty of things. The signing of Pavano, Damon, the trade for Abreu, how many crappy relievers have they had? The japanese guy iguana is awful. I know Cashman is in a tough situation with Stienbrenners win now at all costs but the moves he's been able to make have not been good ones. I don't blame him entirely but really no one else was trying to take on Abreu's awful contract, no one else made a serious run at Damon. Pavano was never a dominating pitcher in the NL. I'd like to see Cashman over a 5 year period with control and patience to draft, develop players. Not just throwing $15 million at the best available player.
Torre is to blame for Abreu's obvious lack of caring about playing. Of course he isn't responsible for Damon's injuries, but he's responsible to sit a guy who is obviously physically underprepared to play baseball. I don't give Torre unfair blame. He makes terrible managerial moves, and not just in the middle innings of games.
Imagine I am worth 1,000,000 living in my 400,000 house. All of a sudden my neighbors see me Saturday morning with 3 National Guardsmen raising the flag on my front lawn with the local high school band playing. . My neighbors come over and ask what is going on. I tell them I just donated 1,000 to VT. Yes, my neighbors would think I was freaking crazy. Well, thats what George did in Yankee Stadium.
I actually halfway agree with that. I don't know how much of yesterday was Steinbrenner, and how much was the PR department of the team. Yesterday's hoopla was simply atrocious though, no matter who was responsible for it.
The only problem I have with the Yankees is everybody knows they are "hot". Its like the prettiest girl in high school, with the best personality, wearing a sign around her neck proclaiming it.
How is Torre responsible for Abreu having a bad attitude? When the players are making that much money, and they stop caring, there's really nothing you can do. Money also factors in with Damon. If a $13,000,000 player tells you he's physically able to play, and he's cleared by doctors, you can't sit him for a league average (maybe) player. Steinbrenner would have a fit. If this was say, high school or college ball or something, or 1950, you'd have a point. But with player salaries the way they are, it's tough to manage that side of the game now.
Losses cause far more fits for George than wasting money. As for Abreu, there's an easy answer to him. The bench. A piss poor attitude must be addressed unless your name is Manny or Pedro. Those two guys are the only players I've ever seen that it was okay to let them be whoever they felt like being. At least when they play they are great, regardless of any perceived attitude problems. I understand your point that this high-priced generation has to be handled with care, but when you're losing winable games, you as a manager have to do whatever you can to fix things. Joe steadfastly refuses to do so. Why bother having a manager? If you can't motivate the team, you can't manage your pen, and your team continues to lose, with the highest payroll in the sport, what good are you? If nothing else, the owner sends a message to the team that this bullshit is unacceptable.
the boss speaks.....too soon. seriously,he should just have everyone think their job is in danger until November
