can a guy on a bad defense, that is declining, really be a great thing? if he couldn't play in KC, why can he play in NY?

Maybe the rest of the league has forgotten about him and if he gets to play in games he can surprise people.

the end result can only be positive, if he fails, hes a backup or cut,, if he does well- Tanny is called a genius yet again. Its win win with Hicks signed.

Side note- In madden 2004, I played with the Chiefs a couple of seasons and Hicks was a monster. He'd get almost a sack a game.

How many times do I have to say this? Hicks' production fell last season because he was a backup. No, it wasn't because of Herm, Herm got more out of the guy that replaced him. No, it wasn't because Hicks was out of shape, he's always worked hard in the offseason. He was supplanted by a better player.

Now that is more like it. It is a win/win situation for your team. This is a good signing because he's well worth the price. He's hardly a risk if he doesn't pan out and could be your starter for relatively cheap. If he doesn't start he's not just eating up a roster spot because he's a great coach on the practice field so to speak. This is win/win. Worst case scenario, he doesn't make the team... big deal. I honestly think he'll make your team, unless they go for somebody younger maybe.

I don't know about the Madden stuff though. They tend to get a little dated when it comes to evaluating non-skill position players. I always wished the Chiefs were as good in real life as they were in video games though.

The guy's nothing but training camp fodder, and that's it.

He was replaced on the line by Tamba Hali. A younger, faster, smarter, more durable athlete.

IF Hicks cracks the starting line up, pray to the almighty football gods, that the Jets' opponents don't run very many bootleg plays, or play-action passes. Hicks has a REALLY bad habit of over committing to a play, and then not having enough speed to be able to correct himself. He spends most of his time playing out in the open with no-one around him.

Yeah, the guy is a nice guy, and can provide leadership for the rookies. But me personally, I'm glad we (being the Chiefs) have players on the D-line that can read a play and react, and then have the speed and agility to be able to correct themselves if the play changes.

BTW...blaming Hicks's decline on Herm coming to KC is just silly. Hicks was well on his way down the depth chart before Herm got there.

    Just my two cents worth.

Thank U for trying to explain to us why he is just another TC fodder player. Some NYJ fans forget that rule 1 in the NFL is that NO NFL team will ever trade/cut a bona fide pass rushing DE or NT for that matter

I mean for real everyone... we complain all season long about we dont have this we dont have that we need this and that we didnt make enough FA Splashes.. The FO has been making power moves with veteran leadship so that we can jump immediately in contention with a Patriots Team that from the start shot straight to the moon on us. Now that we have closed the gap and shored up the defense even if its not superstar players we still have adequate potential and depth on the defense... with a good rotation of the lineman we can keep fresh bodies while we wear there players down especially in the late stretch going into the playoffs

There is nothing wrong with depth and he has had a good career and maybe a bad one last year but who knows why..hopefully Manginus will know how to get him back to that 10+ sack status..probably not but either way he can't hurt..you give the right coach enough players and he'll figure it out.

Sorry to say this sounds exactly the same hope as Moss turning out to be a "cancer"

If one of them works out it was worth it.

I still think we've got a poor defensive line though. Asking Ellis to make the transition to 3-4 end was a mistake. The last time he was asked to switch positions for the good of the team he flopped out. The problem now is there's nowhere for him to move to on that front 7 if he can't play the end well.
