I like what I see. Measurables and scouting report sound like he's well-suited to the 3-4.

I don't know much about him personally, though I remember his big sack year and everyone saying he was an upa nd coming player - that was the last I'd heard. But I like strong players who can stack and shed. I like players with good initial quicknes and good awareness and who can play laterally, but you would think with all those positives and only two minuses (doesn't finish, is late off the ball) that he would be a better player. Here's to hoping he was just misused.

Yes, well suited for the 3-4 and his production last year included a whopping 7 tackles, 4 of which were of the solo variety....training camp fodder...

Sounds like yet more canon fodder. Man the O line are really out numbered now!

Hicks, 30, played in 128 games over nine seasons with the Chiefs and recorded 44 1/2 sacks - the fifth highest total in club history - and 574 tackles.

However, Hicks played sparingly last season as a backup, compiling just seven tackles.

In 2000, Hicks recorded a career-high 14 sacks, despite missing three games with a knee injury.

The 6-6, 280-pound Hicks began his career with the Chiefs in 1998, when he appeared in three games after becoming the only college free agent to make the club's roster.

The Jets on Tuesday also released defensive lineman Keyonta Marshall.

At 6'6" 280, it's another one of those hybrid players who will stand up. It seems like we signed 20 of these types of players.

I like this signing. Hicks was productive and consistent from '99-05..that is, until Herm got there... (I actually don't know the state of the Chiefs d-line last season, who does?)

I like it b/c we haven't really gotten an obvious "wow" DE signing ... maybe Bowens, we'll see.

I hope he works out extra b/c he came from KC, haha

    Off ESPN.com...

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The New York Jets bolstered their defensive line Monday by signing defensive end Eric Hicks, a free agent who spent his first nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Keyonta Marshall, a defensive tackle on the practice squad, was released.

Hicks, who turns 31 next month, ranks fifth on the Chiefs' career sacks list with 40?, including a career-high 14 in 2000.

The Jets have been busy renovating their defensive line this offseason, signing defensive ends David Bowens, Kenyon Coleman, Andre Wadsworth and Michael Haynes.

Kansas City released Hicks on May 1, three days after taking defensive lineman Claude "Turk" McBride in the second round of the NFL draft. Hicks, who made the Chiefs' roster as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 1998, became a full-time starter in 1999. But his role diminished in recent years with the emergence of Jared Allen and Tamba Hali. Hicks had just seven tackles, two solo, in 16 games last season.

I thought he was older than 31, I also thought he was out of the league for the past few years. Who knows, might not be a bad signing
