Brett Favre: top 10 QB??

For a single season, next season, I would not take McNabb (injury-prone), Hasselback (just not as good a QB as Favre in any facet of the job), Young (still has a season or two worth of seasoning before he's in that class) and Pennington (just not the same quality QB.)

I would take Bulger (streaky) and Rivers (still much to prove) with some misgivings.

I would not take Favre over Roethlisberger (ego out of control but a great QB) either.

That makes Favre a top 8 QB. And yes I would take him in a heartbeat as the Jet's starting QB for 2007.

 

A guy with an arm like that, and can read just about ne defense is no way a liability for his team. Due to his lack of playmakers he has to force things sometimes.

 

Favre is not a top 10 QB anymore. He just chucks the ball downfield every opportunity he gets with no accuracy. And, once a game starts going south, he gets frustrated and gives up.

Chad is better.

Well, if the truth be told he has always forced things down the field and thrown some INT's that most QBs would never let go of. He's good enough to get away with that in the same way that Babe Ruth was good enough to strike out 80 or 90 times a year at a time when most hitters got retired quickly for striking out 50 times.

 

Hasselbeck has had some great personnel around him the last few seasons. Give Favre Shaun Alexander as a counterpunch and it would be a whole different story. Hasselbeck has also had a better line in front of him and a wide variety of good receivers to throw too.

The McNabb thing is cut and dried, the man has averaged 12 starts a season over the last 5 years. He's been at 10 or under in 3 of them. That's no kind of QB to try to win a Super Bowl with.

BTW, take a look at what happened to Hasselbeck last season when Steve Hutchinson and Shaun Alexander were both unavailable. He's really not a dominant QB at all when he has average players around him. I probably would not take him over Chad to QB the Jets right now. Chad at least maintains order when he has less than championship caliber talent around him.

Just to add on one more comparison: if you'd put John Elway on the 2005 and 2006 Packers as his last two teams he would have retired without a ring. If you put Brett Favre, as he is right now, in as QB on the 1997 and 1998 Broncos he'd have an excellent shot at two rings.

 

That's the best true compliment i've heard about chad in a long time...if nothing else, grace under pressure would definitely be one of his strong points. But I'd take Burt Fruve in a second over our fearless leader...even now.

I think Favre is vastly overrated by the football community. There are loads of young QBs I'd take over him in a second, because, although they may make the same mistakes all young QBs do from time to time, they will not be deliberately forcing balls and trying to do everything themselves. Favre thinks he's still the QB he used to be, and he simply isn't. I'm sorry, I don't care how much talent you put around him, hit him with a little bit of pressure, or some exceptional coverage, and he crumbles. Not like most QBs whose production drops off in these circumstances, Favre literally crumbles. He falls away from passes, forces them and throws pick after pick after pick. At this point, I'd take most of the QBs in football over him.

Those are the guys who, IMO, give their team a better chance to win than Favre would in that same situation. Most of these guys aren't prone to forcing things or getting out of control, throwing away ballgames, and that's the big difference. If I were a coach or a teammate, I would never want a QB who goes out there and singlehandedly makes anywhere form 2-5 games a year unwinnable; and that's what Favre does

no way is Favre a top 10 QB at this point. He should've retired after 2004. He doesn't have it anymore, and he's hurting the packers.

 

Favre is keeping the Packers afloat. Find me some talent on last year's team. Driver and a second round rookie, Jennings. No TEs, and mediocre at best RBs.

With just 2007 in my mindset, I take Favre over Pennington without question.

I cant believe anyone would want Favre over just about any QB in the league for 2007 , Id take Brooks Bollinger over him.

Great QB but his time has passed , for every great play he makes these days he makes 2 bonehead ones , his brain thinks he can make the throws he could 10 years ago and he cant.

 

He has no physical limitations in terms of passing. I can think of probably 3 guys who can out-cannon Favre: Russell, Leftwich, Palmer.

 

Believe me when I say that the Packers are not keeping Favre around out of some misguided sense of loyalty to him. They're keeping him around because there is nobody available, including Aaron Rodgers, who would do better than him leading the Pack on the field right now.

 

Farve's money might bring in more talent. All their Rbs have performed well the last few years, Farve doesn't have the ability to throw some of the passes he could in his prime. He forces and throws pics, which kill the team, he's too arrogant to throw the ball away
