    -not playing Jerricho
    -kneeling before the Brien FG
    -3rd and long draw play---pick a game
    -clock ---pick a game
-playing older less talented players because of their names
    -camp herm

Just a few, in no particular order

I would add writing Chrebet out of the play book.

When did that happen? Chrebet , never great, was a shadow of his former self from '03 on due to concussions- what did you want him to do w/ him?

When? The day Edwards showed up, that's when. What did I want him to do with him? Use him on 3rd downs like every other coach did before him. Certainly a better option then what they did do on 3rd downs. And you know nothing about the game if you don't know what a great 3rd receiver Chrebet was.

At least it appears that you aren't taking issue with the other points raised in the prior post.

    In 2001 Coles emerged as our #1 WR, Chrebet's 1st down recs went from 50 in '00 to 44 in '01 to 38 in '02. That's not much of a difference. That 38 # was higher than '95, '97 & '99.

please dont start w/ your nonsense about "knowing nothing about the game". Chrebet was a GOOD player, he was never great. he was most effective when he had a Key or coles on the other side of him opening things up for him.

the facts are Wayne was just as effective in '01 and '02 as he was in all his other healthy years besides 1998 when he had his only pro bowl caliber season.

I absolutely do but what's the point? It's gotten old arguing for Herm, his results speak for themselves.

    just for fun:

not playing Jerricho: he played him alot n '05 but we had no one to throw the ball to him.
-kneeling before the Brien FG: I AGREE but the K still should have made the kick.
-3rd and long draw play: he's not the OC.
-clock ---pick a game: his clock problems were overblown.
-playing older less talented players because of their names: name them, we had alot of young players playing quickly when they were ready to play.
-camp herm: Camp herm led us to 3 posseasons in 5 years.

Chrebet was a GREAT possession receiver. I don't know if there is anywhere they keep stats on that but if you would compare 3rd down attempts vs. receptions for first downs to anyone else in the game he would be near the top.

they don't have the situational stats for chrebet at nfl.com since he is retired but they still have the 1st downs which is a good indicator though not as good as the actual 3rd rec stats.

You realize the person who gave and worked out the contracts for Chrebet/Martin/etc back when if we didn't do it, we would have had to do a Ravens mass cut to even field a team, is the same guy who is GM now, right?

They do have situational stats for Chrebet at yahoo!

    3rd down recs: 201
    1st downs: 149

74% of his 3rd down recs went for 1st downs.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3193/situational?year=career

I'l leave the kotte years out but if you want me to add them let me know:

    1997: 29 recs on 3rd down, 19 1st downs, 66%
    1998: 26 recs on 3rd down, 23 1st downs, 88%(obviously his best year)
    1999: 12 3rd down recs, 8 1st downs, 67%
    2000: 22 3rd down res, 19 1st downs, 86%

    2001: 19 3rd down recs, 17 1st downs 89%
    2002: 13 3rd dow recs, 10 1st downs, 77%

Please show me where there is a big change from Parcells/groh to herm?

    Chrebet: 580 recs, 201 3rd down recs, 149 1st downs, 74% 1st down rate,

I'll use the 3 best Jets WRs in the last decade(only as jets):

    Coles('01-'02,'05-'06): 312 recs, 92 3rd down recs, 79 1st downs, 86%
    Cotchery('04): 82 recs, 29 3rd down recs, 26 1st downs, 90%
    Keyshawn('96-'99): 305 recs, 84 3rd down recs, 90%

Chrebet was a GOOD player for us.

There is perception and then there's reality, this has been my main point about Herm. People have perceived things about him that were not true like what you wrote, like not playing young players, etc...

We could argue it all day, I still say he was Great. All of those you listed are wideouts and not slot receivers like Chrebet played most of the time. They all have more speed too. Chrebet's only role was to keep the chains moving and I think he did it as good or better then anyone.

Actually, when one considers Wayne came to us as an undrafted free agent out of college, he becomes even more remarkable.

It doesn't matter here they came from, they are all judged the same. B/c some scouts blew it on wayne doesn't mean wayne gets special treatment- he is judged against the WRs of his time. he was a GOOD player, nothing more. Wayne's athleticism is incrdibly UNDERRATED, he didn't have santana speed or keyshawn heigth but he was fast enough, quick enough and as strong or stronger than any WR in the league. It wasn't like they picked this guy off the street and said let's give him a shot, he arned his way into the league and earned his way to being judged against the best.
