Sam adams was released today by the bengals...hes a 340+ pounder... I think hes worth a look as a stop-gap NT till we can draft someone...
Sam Adams released I just saw an article on yahoo that Sam Adams was released by the bengals. He would be a good stopgap nt for us for this year. What do you guys think?
didnt say, I saw it on the bottomline ticker on ESPN. I assume his age and or contract or maybe he fell out of favor with marvin lewis. I didnt hear or read anythin about an atitude or lockeroom problem..??
no one ever said he was the next coming of warren sapp, he is what he is, a space/gap eating fat ass NT. One of the keys to a working 3-4...something were missing right now is a 330+lbs NT, DR is a solid DT but is not suited for NT hes too small.
Sam Adams has never played NT in the 3-4. Just because he has the size doesn't necessarily mean he would excel at the position; it's more than just being a fat ass in the middle. By the way, he also had arthroscopic knee surgery this off-season, but I'm not sure of the severity. He's an interesting stop gap consideration and I'm sure the FO will do their due diligence and determine whether or not he is a good temporary fit....
Im pretty sure I never used the word "excell" in any of my posts, it was a simple suggestion and its really not more then being a fat ass in the middle. A NT in a 3-4's job is to eat blocks/gaps and let the ILB roam and use the speed/skill to make plays, i think hes worth a look which is what i said, i didnt say sign him 2nite.
He was released by Buffalo in a salary cap maneuver when they were tight up against the cap in 2006. They saved 3+ million against the cap and would have had huge issues without the savings. He had issues last year in Cincinnati. He came in overweight and Marvin Lewis made him earn his way into the lineup by playing himself into shape. Then he strained a knee early on and never got untracked. I think the Bengals decided he was past it and let him go on that basis. If he's done he's done but if he's not he's one of the best run-stuffing tackles in the business. He's a space-hog not a tackle machine and he absorbs a lot of double-teams that would have somebody out on a linebacker otherwise. He doesn't have a lot of experience in a 3-4 though. If I'm the Jets I have him in for a look-see. Probably finished and no value, but you never know. I'd much rather have him in camp than Andre Wadsworth or a few amateur wrestlers.
