Yeah, they should be, but they aren't. Personally, I wouldn't have made this thread because I don't see any need for it. But it does serve a point. It reminds everyone how rediculous it is to constantely discuss a team that you don't like.
Except for this thread where do you see Yankees fans constantly discussing the Mets. For some Mets fans on this board your talking about the Yankees borders on obsession.
Yankees fan arrested for 40-foot dive Im only contributing to this because i think this shit is getting out of hand...Baseball on this board gets worse and worse every year Its sad that friggin Ozzy Guillen is the voice of reason... Its as simple as that.. we NYers are a fucked up breed.
Check some of my homeboy rogblaze's work. He can dish it out with the best of them....Then there is mr junc, who is hiding from Arod.
I don't know if I was the one who started this whole thing today with my question about why Mets fans care so much about the Yankees but I wasn't even kidding around. I am actually interested in hearing why the Mets fans almost care more about the Yankees deficiencies than their teams success. I know this statement isn't true for most Mets fans on this board, but for some it almost does.
^Shade has previously admitted in years past that he would rather the Yankees lose than the Mets win... He has never denied it either.
I have no problems with the Yankees. In fact, most of the players are likeable (Clemens excluded) , just as the Mets are, to me. What bothers me a little about about SOME Yankee fans is that they think they deserve medals because the Yankees have won 26 championships. Read my sig. if you want to know how I feel about that. Other than that, I think light banter between fans is fine.
In regards to your signature, everyone cares. It's how the history of a team, any team, is written. It's not just the Yankees. It's also Montreal in hockey and Boston in basketball. Every sport has it's signature team. In baseball it just happens to be the Yankees.
The signature team of the Mets are the 69 and 86 Mets. The signature team of the Red Sox is the 2004 team.
Except for when it was the Red Sox. And when it was the Reds. And the A's. Different franchises have been dominant at different times. I don't see the Yankees as being any more "signature" than the other teams. Aside from the Devil Rays, each team has their own unique and special history.
I think the history does matter, but I understand people not wanting to hear it in response to every conversation. That said, the way I see it used here is to fight back against retarded flame posts. Personally, I've got nothing at all against the Mets. I don't care what happens with the team, but I do hope they make it to the World Series, simply because it's good for NY when one or both teams appears in the Series. The issue is that this is not about light banter. It's purposeful trolling by particular members. You talk. You throw comments where appropriate, but you don't troll. On the other hand, you have guys like davecrazy and shade who can't help but throw out the same lame comments about "classiness" or ARod and Jeter's homosexual relationship. The point is, how many Yankees fans are making any of the same sorts of posts as shade in Mets threads? How many threads are Yankees fans starting regarding the Mets? Nobody is saying Mets fans cannot post in Yankees threads. Quite the contrary. We welcome even Red Sox fans into discussions, as long as some decency is observed. Devil is a smart poster, and he and I post back and forth a lot. You and I post back and forth a lot. We have conversations. Have you ever seen shade have an actual conversation in a thread about the Yankees? That's the difference. Just like 96ers ruin it for old school Yankees fans, the few bad apples in the Mets group spoil the bunch.
Sorry but when you're the winnigest team in baseball, and sports, that makes you the "signature" team of the sport. Now somebody will throw out some European club soccer team and say, "Wrong, this is the winningest team in sports."
It does in that it is the standard to which every other team is compared. If a team were to win 5 WS in a row they would be compared to the Yankees, if they were to win 9 championships in 10 years they would be compared to UCLA in college basketball..etc.
One issue I have...I could care less about the Mets, the Yankees play them 6 times a year and that's it. But I don't hope they make it to the World Series...They're the other NY team, why root for them? Like last season it was pretty lame hearing Yankees fans saying "Now that the Yanks are out, it'd be good for the Mets to get to the World Series." Why?
