Mike Francesa and Mad Dog spent three hours berating the Yankees today and had Brian Cashman on the hot seat for about a half an hour today. In a nutshell: 1. called the Yankee stunt of having Roger Clemens speak over the loud speaker very amateurish and made Yankee Stadium look like a staged wrestling event. Francesa went on to say a classy Yankee like Bernie Williams would never have done that. 2. said Roger Clemens is not a true Yankee since he has spent only 4 out of his 24 professional years in pinstripes. Said it was ridiculous to treat him like Yankee royalty. 3. says Yankees way overpaid for Clemens as they were bidding against themselves, and neither Boston or Houston would go anywhere near the salary the Yankees paid him. 4. predicted no way Clemens pitches against Boston the first week of June, and they will "save" him for the Pirates Friday night, I believe June 8th, at home. 5. called Clemens a 5 inning pitcher who will wear down the bullpen. He averaged less than 6 innings last year in the NL Central. 6. said the only Yankee fans who would endorse this move were "kids" who think anything the Yankees do is ok.
The only thing I don't like is the price that the Yankees paid for him, and how people think he is going to be the savior. He's not. He's going to help and strengthen out of the rotation, and be a guideline for all of the younger players on the team.
Enjoyed hearing Cashman squirm, dodge and duck every Igawa question. The best one was when Chris asked him "if the yankee's knew they were signing clemens during the offseason and this isn't a desperation move why did the yankee's sign igawa to a 40+ million dollar contract?"
I think its a move they needed to make, so George pulled the trigger, it isn't really like the moneys an issue. They did what they needed to do. And i also think that only the yankees can get away with announcing a signing in the middle of a game, any other team would be classless.
Chris was just happy to not have to talk about Bonds today. He's another dumb jealous Yankee hater. Yeah,it was over dramatized. So what. Lets let it play out beofre we kill it. If those idiots were for it,they wouldn't have had 3 hours of shit to fill their show with.
I wasn't able to hear them, but I heard they made fun of Suzyn Waldman when she announced that Roger was back on the radio. If you didn't hear it, take a listen. http://www.wcbs880.com/topic/play_wi...audioId=695991 It's hysterical
1) I wasn't impressed with the announcement. I thought it was kind of cheesy. It did get the crowd and team juiced up though. 2) F what these two think about "real Yankees." Wasn't Fatcessa all over Roger's cock when he was here the last time? He is royalty, like any other player who helped the team win a ring or two. 3) Yeah they overpaid. No shit. They also overpay Jeter, Giambi, ARod, Moose et al. This is the highest payroll in baseball, practically everyone is overpaid. 4) I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Probably depends more on his progress to that point. If he can, he will. 5) We'll see how many innings he goes. It's a totally different story how many innings you can pitch when you have a 5 run lead. 6) I'm a "kid" who thinks "anything" the Yankees do is okay? F Fatcessa and Dog. I've been a Yankee fan my entire 32 year life. I don't agree with A LOT of what they do. Hell, I don't even agree with keeping our World Series winning manager! These two douchebags are total morons. But of course, they had half the city listening to them rant and rave for 3 hours. So the station is happy, since the advertisers are happy. And in the end, that's what's really important.
Waldman is the worse announcer in baseball. I think she is there for either cancer sympathy or she is blowing George. Plus, she is a freaking Sox fan. Her "conversion" to being a Yanks fan is grounds for getting punched in the face.
Not quite, the only reason they are getting away with this is because of Roger Clemens being a lovechild of the media, much like Brett Favre except that Clemens uses it the attention to get lots of money like a prostitute
??? WTF are you talking about? Are you making the point that you're a "kid" who agrees with everything they do by saying you don't agree with everything they do?
Look at the business side of this. If it keeps the Yankees in the race, it keeps the fans coming to the games. While most of the tickets are sold already there is a hell of a lot of money to be made by them showing up too. Not to mention turning on YES to watch them. The advertising dollars go up or down based on the number of people looking in. 18 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what that will be. I'm really surprised so few can see the reality here.
Hahahahahahaha. The Yankees are not hurting for revenue. With or without Clemens, just about every game will be sold out or close to it, they will continue to sell merchandise, and the TV ratings will stay the same. Casual fans don't watch every game on TV, diehards do. And they're going to watch either way. Roger Clemens was not signed to boost revenue.
