Fellas, I would be really surprised to see us just lay back for the second half of FA--I've got a feeling we are going to make some relativly big moves. Word is Justin Smiley may be traded- and I want him bad. I don't have cap numbers in front of me (would appreciate if anyone does) but it seems like we still have a few bucks to spend. Also, with the projected cuts of Barrett, McCareins, and maybe another LB, we will probably be in even better cap shape come June 1st. If we can get a guy like that to improve our line - I think we'd all be very happy with the off-season. So far, we got improvements on the D line, LB, and secondary- so the D looks much better than last year. On O, we brought in Jones, Barnes and resigned Clement, but that's about it. I think something is going to happen-- I'm hoping for Smiley big time, and I think we have the cap room to give him 20-30 million for 5-6 years with no problem. Thoughts on the Cap, Smiley, and any other offensive FA, or possible cuts would be fantastic. Lets keep this one positive.
Smiley is a good Guard, and overall a good guy...met him about a year and a half ago at my restaurant...much better guy then his restaurant buddy Alex Smith, who in my opinion is a *&%#$*#
No to draft picks for Smiley. Yes if the the right player trade presented itself. Cap is fine at this point, which is kind of where you'd like it to stay. In the interest of staying positive I'm not going to discuss the defensive line.
Unfortunately they addressed the 3 needs that our tradeable guys would fill in WR, LB and CB this weekend. Smiley would be great but I wouldnt count on it.
Yeah, I was looking into teams who drafted Guards early to predict some cuts-- Baltimore may be letting someone go, but that's about all I got. I'm sure some more guys will be released for cap reasons though. I would love a good starter under 29 years old. (obviously)
i would be so pumped if we got smiley, he would def. make a huge difference in our running game, moore is below average and he needs to be replaced....i think its still a possibility jmac gets traded for a pick for next years draft by the titans and i like barret, hes good depth and hes pretty solid when hes not injured
I like the potential synergy that the additions of K. Coleman, Wadsworth, Bowen, Revis and Harris may have on the 2007 defense. The dymanics on that side of the ball, IMO, has already improved drastically compared to last year. If anything, I would really like to see the FO do the following: 1. Go for some intermediate term improvements along the OL by aggressively going after some June 1 Free Agents. 2. Acquiring a physically imposing 3-4 NT like Kris Jenkins would be a welcome addition to the current NT rotation. 3. Build up our draft pick inventory for 2008. Overall, between the 2006 playoffs and the off season manuever executed by the FO, I have to admit that I haven't been as excited about the Jets prospect for 2007 in a very long time.
Smiley will cost about $7 million a year. I don't know if I'm prepared to dedicate that much money yet.
Well, I don't know what kind of season he had in 06, but I saw on ESPN that the Browns cut Andruzzi today.
Andruzzi is a solid player. He was one of the Pats leaders back when he was there.. Hopefully the Pats pick him up again:up:
There is no reason the Jets do not approach Andruzzi. He is good depth and may be able to start on the right side. He is at least an upgrade over Moore.
I think we should look into getting one or two lineman for depth/challenge Moore for a spot. I dont think age would really matter because these would just be for this year and maybe next year. In the 2008 draft we can draft olineman with our first two picks.
We probably don't need people who are cut. We needed free agents and passed on them. People cut now are either finished or not worth the money they are due. In any event, with the rare exception, there won't be much coming now before the season starts.
No, Smiley's a FA after the season. The 49ers have had no luck getting him signed to a long-term deal so they are now thinking about trading him before he can walk at the end of the season. The new FA deals for G's this year have driven the franchise tag on G's up high enough that that's probably not an option.
I wonder what it would take to get him? a 3rd? He is only 25, so if we can pull a deal off it would be a great trade. You figure we are going to draft a guard in the 3rd round next year, why not get him this year.
Trading future picks is for suckers and Dan Snyder. I'd much prefer that we wait and have the full complement of picks for draft 2008. If the 49ers want Barrett and McCareins, well I can't argue with trading our nickelback and slot receiver for a starting guard, especially since either or both could easily get beat out in TC and cut anyway.
