the only reason i think Mangini wont pull the trigger is because he is old and doesnt exactly fit into the plan for our future...thats would be it...otherwise i think Keyshawn is the perfect fit

He doesn't have to be fast in the slot.

As big as he is, he is a matchup nightmare, over the middle, in short to mid yardage situations.

    3rd and 5,6, or 7...

Key could be key in keeping the offense on the field.

He's a great pickup to play in the slot. Picking him up would help hide the fact we failed to pick up a TE and would address the need for someone to catch the "floaters" in the middle of the field. It would also save Coles from taking the hits he does coming across the middle. He's a mismatch for just about any nickel corner. It would be a nice pick-up.

Here's my gripe.. with his age, its doubtfull he will want to be that guy going over the middle.. This is a guy that was contemplating retirement not too long ago. I agree that a big target in 3rd down situations would be key, but I really do not believe that Keyshawn is willing to play on a team as the 3rd receiver.

That being said.. IF.. and thats a big if.. keyshawn agrees to take a step back, accept a reduced role and a cheap contract to help out the Jets this season, I'm all for it. But there are too many other teams looking for a solid #2 right now that I do not believe he would ever accept this role at this time. Take the giants for example.. the saints could use some veteran leadership in their receiving corp. Those are two teams you can definitely consider to be "contenders". The chiefs could be looking into him.. how about the titans? Theres more too. If there is still an opportunity for Keyshawn to be a starter in the league, he will not take a #3 role.

I guess I misread the thread a bit.. Yes.. I do want keyshawn back.. as a #3 and only that. No, I do not think he will ever be a Jet again for reasons stated above.

Do you know who else would love to see us bring back Me-shawn Johnson? The opposing secondaries that the Jets would encounter this coming season.

Nothing like having three non-burner WR to defend against on a third-and-long. No speedy wideout that would stretch the field and force the DB's to defend a larger chunk of real estate. Wow weee a nickel package in a shorter field? Do we really want to gift-wrap these conditions to the opposition? While you guys are at it, might as well put that pretty pink bow on top of that box.........jeez

Do you really want to bring this jackass back?

Yeah, I'm sure opposing defenses will be downright giddy to see Coles, Cotchery, and Keyshawn lining up at receiver on 3rd downs.

The four teams that want Keyshawn

Keyshawn Johnson might have to put his television career on hold. Word is there might be a pretty good market for him. The Eagles, Chargers, Giants and Titans are rumored to be among the teams that are at least thinking about pursuing Johnson.

The opposing Secondaries lick their lips when they drop back and see Chad have to throw on third and long. Their Cornerbacks lick their lips as they get ready to pad their stats by picking off one of his flutter balls. If we are in that many third and long situations where a burner would matter with Chad at the help the the game or season is as good as over. We could have Calvin Johnson running patters on third and long and it would not matter. How about we concentrate on Third and five where Chad can actually produce. Keyshawn would be great in the scenario in which we could actually win. We have seen previous playoff games where Chad will lead us on third and long and it does not have anything to do with the receivers he has had to throw to.

Jerome Stanley, the agent for wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, told ESPN.com's John Clayton on Wednesday that "several teams have expressed interest in Johnson and that he does have offers."

No surprise, he is still very serviceable.

i repeat, get it done. sign him for 2 or 3 yrs.

and everyone who says keyshawn will have to play slot, WRONG. we could easily rotate cotch/coles/key all over the field with even leon/smith/stuckey/mccareins in as a 4th reciever.

if we sign him theres so many things we could do. if people think our Offensive scheme produces defensive headaches already it would be tenfold with key in the mix. imagine coles rotating to slot pre snap keyshawn running a short curl route. coles burns nickelback while Safety and CB squat on what they think is a dumpoff to keyshawn

thats just one scenario. if we dont sign him i would imagine its only cuz of the whole youth movement philosophy. but i believe wed be instant playoff contenders with key on this team.

As much as I'd like to see this happen- I doubt that it will.

Some other team will come in with better money, representing a #2 WR figure, rather than what we'd possibly offer to pay him as our #3- plus, with the other teams previously noted he'd be pretty much guaranteed more time on the field if he's one of the top 2 WR's, and some may be closer to the big dance, personnel-wise, than we are.

So what would his incentive really be to come back and join the Jets?

well this is just rumor. and prolly bs. but they say he liked playing here alot aside from the chrebet feud. plus its NY, a place where a player like Keyshawn can get his shine back on a larger stage.

but for the reasons you said I would be very surprised to see it get done. we can all hope though cant we? lol
