oh my gosh, this is great! when we beat this retooled patriots team week 1, it is going to be ESPN's hottest story, by far. guys, pats have some good players, esp WRs now, but there are still the same amount of men on the field as the Jets, let's not glorify these guys too much, besides I hear the QB has no arm... GO JETS
The reason Revis shot up was that all the other CB prospect's holes were bigger than his. That's a good reason for him to move up from late to mid-first in my opinion. Revis was also the only guy that people could project as a shutdown corner, even if most were loathe to do that. Hall has always needed help over the top. Ross only started as a senior, and while he had very good results there were a lot of holes apparent in his technique. Houston was just a name floated up into the first round due to a great combine, he was really always a 2nd round pick. That left Revis as the guy to get if you were going to go get somebody.
It is more than a little weird that Wes Welker costs a team a 2nd and a 7th, while Randy Moss goes for a 4th. I bet the Brain Trust in NE regrets the first trade alot more than the second. That's a good point, but remember. The Patriots has Wes Welker with an offer sheet that the fins would not be able to match. It was loaded with the so called "poison pill". The Patriot Brain trust (including Robert Kraft) threw the second rounder in to keep the transaction on the up and up.
That is pretty much how I feel about it. He'll still be a dangerous wideout, but for the most part I don't expect him to change his ways. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see him become more of a problem in New England with its strictness and "team" philosophy. Randy Moss is "me first" guy. That isn't going to change long term.
I just get upset at what we gave up to get him and what happens if he isn't that great CB they think he is? We blew our entire draft for one player. That's how GMs get themselves fired.
It seems as though the Pats are moving away from their "team first" mentality. They got guys like Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss now, two guys not exactly known for wanting what is best for the team. I really don't think this is that great of a move for them. Yes, he will help the team but there really seems to be a great possibility of a "TO" situation, where the team implodes because of him.
Belichick will never allow that to happen. Before it did he would be cut. He will be made well aware of that on day one if he hasn't been already.
I'm less upset with the Revis trade than the Harris one. Harris was too much of an injury risk to give up what we gave in my opinion. And yes, if Tannenbaum is out of here in 2 years they will point at this draft as one of the primary factors. That's what I said about Saban and Culpepper this time last year and I hope I'm wrong this time.
Thats also how GMs get great players and win championships. Gotta take risks to win. Walsh gave up almost his entire first half of his draft (1st 2nd 3rd) to go get rice.
Notice how all the Michigan players dropped this season? There was so much film of them against high level competition that their holes really stood out. I think the huge games Jarrett and Ginn had against Michigan really depressed Hall's stock. He couldn't cover the big physical receiver and he couldn't cover the speed gnat. Kind of left you wondering exactly who he *could* cover when push came to shove

Just think of how things can change once Brady gets lit up and goes down for the season...who is their backup anyway?
I agree. He has had bad knees his entire career. He played in only 9 games his first two years combined because of it.
He also never really put his hands on either one of these guys. Look what happend to Jarrett when chris houston knocked him around a little bit. Once he learns how to bump (and he can) i think he'll be a good player. But revis will still be better.
