Sirius today in their two minute drills was running a quote from Tabbenbaum about the draft. Not an exact quote, but pretty close:

"if you are at 12 you probably have 8 players you really like at that spot. At 25, we probably have 18-20 players we would be very happy picking at 25"

Thought it was a very interesting, and points to us really have no idea who we will go with in RD1. So many think it has to be Blalock, or another plkayer, but it seems like the Jets will have a lot of options at 25, and have a bunch of players with similar grades.

Of you figure there are 10 players that have no chance to get to 25, that leads 8-10 possibles in the Jets FO minds that they would take at 25. The comment leads me to believe that we are very likely staying put, and taking BPA, and not drafting strictly for need, such as CB.

What I'm getting from Tanny's comments, if the 20 players they like in Rd 1 are gone by #25, they may trade down.

  3. Actually Bradway said that, not Tanny.

It's very interesting watching the early seasons of a managment team that I think is going to be great by the time they are done. Obviously there's no way to be sure and there will be negative moments now and then but watching Tannenbaum and Mangini work is more fun than anything I've seen since Frank Cashen and Davey Johnson circa 1985.

Easier said then done...you have to find someone who wants that pick and willing to give up compensation.

It's very easy to trade down from the 25. What's hard is trading down from the 5.

I never said it was easy, I know that, it's just my interpretation of the comments made at the presser.

I'm guessing a few of those 18-20 players are Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson. I'm sure they'll like someone who will fall to their spot.

  9. We've got a scary good Front office right now, from all angles, whether it be coaching, cap management, general management and player personel.

Right now we have Clinkscale(long time well respected scout) Jesse Kaye( Former head of scouting also very well respected) Bradway( again well respected) and Dick Haley(his resume and history speaks for itself) as talent evaluators to go along w/ mangini and Tannenbaum. All 4 of those guys are current or former director's of scouting. If they all get on the same page in terms of making a draft board, and it seems like they are, and if Tanny makes the right moves...that's got some pretty scary possibilities.

If Olsen is there at 25, he's their man.

I'm starting to think that we will trade down 5-10 spots and try to recoup the 4th rounder we gave away.

I actually think if we do anything, we'll try to trade up in the first round. Not sure who we'd be targetting, but I'm guessing they'll keep their 1st rounder and do most of their trading later in the draft like last year.

I really like Olsen too...but it seems like the majority of Jets fans have decided that this guy is a bum because he plays TE and he is projected to go in the first round.

When I think of Olsen I think of a guy who can come in right away and make an immeadiate impact for the Jets. We need a guy who can create problems for defenses over the middle of the field.

Greg Olsen is 6'6" (6' 5 7/8") and over 250 pounds. The knock is he doesn't block real good, but it is expected that he will gain some weight in the NFL and will have to work on this part of his game.

Olsen would be a tremendous accet for the Jets to have inside the 20 yard line...Can anyone tell me one of the main reasons the Jets were never going to win that game in the playoffs against the patriots? Because we kicked 2-3 FG's in Patriot territory...we couldn't score when we got in close...A: because we couldn't run the ball and B: because we didn't have a target.

Olsen would help the Jets passing and Running game and most improtantly...in the redzone.

I am all for Olsen, but I do like other guys such as Justin Blalock, Anthony Spencer, Aaron Ross, and Chris Houston.

If we were to pass on Olsen I would just turn the TV off. Wouldn't want to see any more of the draft.

That is exactly how I felt when we traded all the picks just to draft Robertson and again last year when we passes on trading to get Bush and then let the QBs slide through our fingers. Two starting QBs I might add.

Can't stand another year like that.

Drafted two over hyped linemen. Robertson has been a bust so far for what we paid and Ferguson looked real bad at times last year for all his hype. He wasn't even the best OL we drafted last year. Bush on the other hand was fantastic at every position, receiving, running and even returns. Still turns my stomach.

Golden rule, never draft a linemen in the top five picks. DL or OL it doesn't matter! Half of them are busts and just as many starting linemen are drafted in the mid to later rounds.

Wait, so you hate when we draft overhyped linemen in round 1 but you would be upset if we didn't draft an overhyped TE. Makes sense to me!!!

Actually, if there are positions that you do definitely draft in the top 5 its OT and DE. These positions usually have a pretty good return on investment. It is easier to get a dominant RB in the later rounds. QB is basically a crapshoot. So is WR, but maybe to a lesser extent. Personally, I wouldn't draft a TE that high because I do not believe the position can have that much of an impact. Safeties are usually not drafted very high due to the position being devalued by many clubs. It is not unheard of to see a CB drafted in the top 5. Other positions (OG, C, FB) are never drafted that highly. LBs should be are occasionally considered that high and so should DTs.

D'Brick was the closest thing to a can't miss prospect coming out of school as we've ever seen, and DRob had great measurables and performed excellently at the combine. Judging by their positions and the scouting, drafting these players made sense at the time. How they will work out only time will tell.

that means nothing...with as much posturing and bullshit that goes on prior to draft day what he said is meaningless....why would you give away your strategy prior to the draft? i know the days before the draft are exciting, but there really isnt anything that should be looked on as an honest opinion (unless its from an anonymous source, and even then....)

You seriously examined that entire post to find incorrect grammar? Really? Is the offseason that dull for you? If you are going to bash someone on their grammar, then maybe you should learn some punctuation. lik K DoodZ?
